In short, facebook is like an updated college yearbook. I admit, I was jealous seeing my older brother using the site and I couldn't but now, I too can . It's just a little lonely but that's only because my highschool people are slow on things, some still haven't even decided which college to go to. So who has one? Well, if your mother or father got ahold of it, and took it to the police, he could be slapped with a misdemeanor for solicitation of a minor for lewd conduct. If he acts on it, even though he thinks you're 17/18, the statuatory rape charge has been changed in 2003 to be just plain 'rape,' and he'll be a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life.

I think it's a lot safer, too, because you can only sign up if someone else gives you a link, and you have to choose a high school. So there's probably going to be less sexual predators or whatever. Though, I don't really see the point of it when I have myspace anyways. I don't think it's that great because most of the people I have added as a friend I probably see them everyday.

Facebook is usually more 'mature' than myspace and it's really for connecting college students with their friends (from college or from their high school).

I think they serve different purposes. MySpace is more about meeting people; Facebook is more about keeping a network of people you know.




Besides, Facebook is soooooo much better. There's a lot more fun things to be done with Facebook, and the creators (who were in college when they started it) do a lot of interesting things to show how people and information is connected.

I think the most interesting thing is "visualizing" your network of friends. A map (as a Scalable Vector Graphic, or SVG) is created that shows all your contacts and your connection to them, as well as their connection to each other. The algorithm used is adept at finding groups ("cliques", if you will) of friends, and grouping them together in the resulting graph.

One of the coolest things is finding how you know people. If you go to the profile of someone who is not your friend, Facebook builds a path specifying which mutual friends connect you to that person. Facebook also tells you which friends you have in common, and (if this information is filled in) how that random person knows your friends.

There are other interesting things, such as tracking trends in interests, both nationally and for your campus, as well as providing fun statistics on how many people are single, liberal, and so forth. It's also very easy to find people with similar interests. You can also specify how you know someone and when you met him, so you can build a timeline of when you met your friends, and in what context you met them (through a club, a class, etc.). This makes it easy to see how other people met your friends, for example.

And, of course, there's the security aspect—it's a lot easier to restrict your profile on Facebook than on MySpace, which allows people to post more sensitive information, such as their cell phone numbers or room numbers, while still allowing only trusted individuals to see such information.

i have a facebook college of course.. i had a HS one for like one week until i got my college email... i don't like how its global now and anyone can join like people who aren't in school at all.. its gonna start to turn into myspace which i'm not a fan of really any more. plus i made everything private even to people in my school so only people on my friends list can see me.


its great for college so you can get in contact with your future roomie or keep in touch and also with clubs and classes / trips you can get informed i love it. but for high school i think just stick to myspace not like you're meeting anyone new yet. it kinda buggs me with younger people getting them just cause eveyone else is but in reality it was orignally made for colleges and back then you had to wait until you got into college to make one

OMGOSH! I hate how it's global now, too!! It's okay, though. I blocked everyone who's not in a network. haha.. Anyways, I LOVEE facebook. Everything's simple and like clean. I've had one since the summer. My friend invited me to it while it was still invite-only to have one. It's definitely better than MySpace: cleaner layout, being able to upload as many pictures as you want (in albums :]), no bulletins. I just don't like the news feeds, but I turned those off so people don't know what I'm doing every time I'm on Facebook.
