FFVIII, help needed Options

I'm on the fourth disk on FFVIII and I keep dying on the first boss (Edel). If anyone has already beaten the game, could you give me some hints? For instance, how do I get the Samantha Soul? How can I defeat Edel without hurting Rinoa and yet at the same time heal Rinoa when she gets her HP drained?

Are you talking about the boss fight where he has Rinoa trapped inside of him? {Was it a him? I can't even remember.}

I remember fighting that..was it a pain in the ass. I just got lucky, really. All I can tell you is that you should probably have one character who has the strongest physical attacks, one who has the best GFs, and another who can focus on healing the whole party and Rinoa.

Cast regen on Rinoa. Use GF/magic rarely during the battle. Use normal attacks because they don't do much damage that way. Heal Rinoa with hi-potion occasionally or something.

GAh! Sorry guys. I misspelled the guy's name. Yeah, it's Adel.

Squall has recover...which heals HP all the way. The problem is, Adel keeps using such powerful magic on my people. I'm using Irvine and Zell.

Irvine only has 1000 some HP. He dies in one hit from Adel. XD
Zell has 9999 HP
Squall has 9999 HP

I tried using Regen, but it's not that affective. I tried casting Meltdown on Adel, but that wasn't affective enough either. I can't mug Samantha's soul from Adel. None of the tutorial thingys I went to were helpful.

I guess I trained them too much and caused more of a problem as neither Squall nor Zell can level up anymore.

PHYSICAL ATTACK FRENZY:
This is what I call this kind of attacking. Towards the latter part
of the game I discovered something rather interesting. Guardian Forces
became virtually obsolete. Why? Because I pumped my character's stats
up so much that their physical attacks did wonders better than those
long and drawn out GF's. Difficult Bosses like Adel and the Ultimecia's
Castle Parade fell in moments without my characters taking very much
damage. I found that by Junctioning 100 Hastes to a character's Spd
made that Character attack so frequently that Guardian Forces were
just a waste of time. This especially worked well with Squall, whose
Str was maxed out at 255 by Junctioning Meteor to that stat and equipping
the Str+60% Ability. Squall would attack so frequently, and cause
between 4000 and 9999 damage each time, that I kind of thought the
game was too easy. The important part of this equation is pressing
L1 exactly as the gunblade makes contact with the enemy. Better yet,
just put Aura on him and let him do his limit break a couple of times
and those bosses will fall in seconds.

You should check this out if you haven't already, there is a place called Island closet to heaven and nother called island closest hell that has some pretty awesome draw points and you can lvl up 2 to the 3 times each battle but save your game everytime you win because the training will be intense.

As far as strategy I used the first hint I gave at the top to maxamize Squall's abilities. If the other characters besides Squall die it makes the battle easier because when he is equipped with a 100 hastes he moves so fast you can get a attack ratio of over 3 to 1. I know you mentioned you used region on Rinoa, I did the exact same thing, but what made it easier is the fact that I also had a bunch of Aura spells which allows you to limit break without low HP. If im not mistaken you can also find this on either the Island Closest to Hell or Heaven.

Only some of your ideas are good, but then you give bad advice after that.
Especially the guy who said use your strongest GF's and magic, what the f**k is that about?

Ok, like the others, cast regen. It helps, trust me.
And, if you are willing, mug from Adel, and mug 8 megaelixers from Rinoa, you can also occasionally use Scan to see how Rinoa is doing. Then, use magic and physical attacks, Contrary to what others say, you can use magic, just remember to heal rinoa afterwards, using curaga and such. Or that magic spell that cures status effects/ Esuna? If doomtrain attacks one person, use him. I don't remember who he attacks. Physical attacks are good here, especially Limit breaks. Use Aura, and use things like irvines shot or something. Keep this up, and you'll win no time. Also, dont' forget about Adel's last attack, Ultima.

No one mentioned the use of GFs. Perhaps you were reading it wrong. Regen is only semieffective. Adel uses magic and only magic so her damage to my party's members are 1000 and up. Regen only recovers about 450 HP. Recover is far more effective. Like I said before, Irvine dies on the Adel's first attack.

Adels last attack is still meteor. As in , when you get her HP down to 0, she gets one last turn and uses Ultima. I don't know why you can't mug anything, who is mug equipped onto?

Theres the idiot who mentioned GF's. You should only really use GF's if you're gonna heal Rinoa alot. BUt if anything, use Doomtrain, cerebus and all the other magic casting Gf's.

I don't know why your Regan is so low, must be because of your magic strenght. No problem is using Recover, just don't give it to squall. He is most likely your strongest character, so you shouldn't waste his turns healing people. Also, if irvine is so weak, just get someone else it. Lastly, you might want to assign 2 people as attackers, and the last person as the healer. Using abilities such as Recover and Revive, more than attacking. Mostly attacking when the other 2 aren't hurt or low on Hp. Which won't be Often.



Plus, if she only uses Magic, and magic damage is 1000 and up, then use magic like SHell and stuff. If your have quistis, use that Might Guard, or Selphies Wall. You could just even use Cerebus and Shell. Lastly, to reduce the damage, you have to raise either their vitality or spirit/something like that. I think it's the latter, because that one is your Magic defense, as vitality is the physical attack resistence I think.
