the top ten things you do in myspace / xanga. Options

im just doing some background research for a new website that is in the works. it would help me a lot in terms of understanding what people want if you could make a list of things you do in myspace and / or xanga.

Myspace: Nothing really. I sign on.... Bimonthly? Something like that, and it's usually to put up a new layout. So that's about the only thing I do.
Xanga: I (1) blog, (2) read the few comments I get every once in a blue moon, (3) go look at my friend's blogs and see if they wrote anything good, (4) make layouts, if that counts. And that's about it. Oh, and sometimes I read the featured blog. -shrug- It's usually not very interesting.

so in myspace, do you just browse around and look at other people's profiles? if so, who's? do you find yourself spending more time in your friends or strangers profiles? how about pictures? do you view them? comment? blogs?

-nibbles on cookie- I really just sign on for a minute or two, reply to comments, and then leave. I suppose I look at friends profiles more, but then I (once in a blue moon) look through their friends and sometimes I end up at a completely random profile. I don't normally view pictures or comment on them. It takes ages to load for me, so I skip it. Blogs I try to read, but most people don't update their blogs so there's nothing to read!

^^on myspace, i like looking at pictures. also, giving comments and recieving comments.

the only good thing about xanga that i can think of..is making posts and being able to change the font and color.

why do you think people dont use the blog feature in myspace? is it too hard to use?

I take Xanga more seriously as a blogging tool. I have been on there for over three years and have grown to be friends quite few people from that site. I'm like to actually browse random blogs and respond to those that interest me than on Myspace.

Myspace is basically a place to stay in touch with friends I know. I dont bother browsing through random profiles.

For both I love putting layouts up. I also like that they are both fairly easy to customize.

^i dont think people use the blog feature on myspace because its not actually on that first apge. if you want to read about someones life on myspace, youve gotta click more. both can be customized to basically whatever you want which is good.

however, myspace only lets you upload like..12 pics or something which is kinda stupid.

Because. You go to Myspace to get a profile. That's what you're there for. Just like how you go to... Geocities to get webspace, not to make friends. So, it's not as widely publicized. The blogging feature that is.
Don't the count by profiles? Like ______ profiles and counting? Whereas Xanga would count more like ______ blogs and counting. It's a little hard to use, but no more so that Xanga. -shrug-

-change my layout (when i get tired of a layout/or an uncoming holiday)
-i update my entries
-comment people who comment me
-look for music to match my layout...or just to change it
-read my subscriptions

And as for xanga, i don't use it. But when i did use it,

4)write new blog entries if i have any.

myspace: i look at friends pics. i try to find other friends on myspace. i comment people. i do bulletins (the survey ones, not the YOU'LL DIE IN EIGHT DAYS AND EIGHT SECONDS ones)

xanga: i blog. i comment others. i make layouts constantly when i'm bored. i look for good music links.

Myspace doesn't mean much to me anymore. I just go looking at friends' pages or friends' friends pages and then add them if they seem pretty cool so we can get to know each other. Other than that, I like the anticipation of seeing "NEW FRIEND REQUESTS!," but "NEW COMMENTS" get kind of annoying when you have to comment them back. Myspace seems more of a chore, but it's still fun to have, I guess, to brag to other people that you have more friends or comments than them. Oh, and I get to keep in touch with people who don't use instant message frequently.

Same with xanga. Except xanga gets more personal because you're reading other people's entries and about their lives and stuff. I like to rant on it, or talk about my day, I suppose. Leaving comments is pretty cool, too.

Xanga is getting this new feature, well i don't know if you can call it a "feature", but they're making xanga profiles like myspace. Like adding friends and stuff.
