uhm; im not sure where to post this topic so i just posted it in lounge.

so; i got my highschool results today& i got accept to Thomas A. Edison. It's some techincal school. I was kinda happy with it. But then the thing is; after hearing some stories from people i know that go there; im not sure if i want to go there anymore. Many say that in Edison, theres alot of crime and like fights. But then the education there is good. One said that he doesnt think i would fit well into the school cause its very "gangsterish and there are fights" everywhere. Another person said that as long as i dont like get in the way of the ierno how to call them but like "fighting" people then they wont do nothing to me. I talked to my dad and he said that the location of the school is in a dangerous place. Now thing is im not sure if i want to go there anymore. But then yet again; it supports what i want to do and learn but the fact that its not safe; bothers me.

i can either choose to go to this school now. And for one year; if i dont like it i can reapply to other schools. Or i can like move where i live and go to a zone school.

What would you guys do?

You shouldn't worry aboutnot fitting in; there's bound to be some people there who aren't "gangsterish" or whatever.

Even if it's dangerous, there will always be other kids with the same tastes as you, so you're not alone.

oh i applied to frank sinatra but i put it fifth i think im not sure.
but im going to the high school program at york college. i have a higher chance of getting into NYU or FIT when i apply for colleges.

and i think you should just go to that school. obviously people dont get in there because they are stupid or i dont think you should have applied for a stupid school so it shouldnt be that bad. and york is in jamaica.. i guess its not that bad. i know people that go there and the majority are my yellow asians. it might be different there once you go in? do they have a open house? if they do go and see what its like.

well, check around your district. if theres one that sounds better, then choose that one. plus, you can always go with private schools.

i live near that school...yes. it is in a bad neighborhood..and there are ganster ppl there...but dont let that scare u away..once u go there youll find the non-fighting ppl and youll be fine. the only reason that school is known for fighting is b/c its always the same group of ppl getting into the same fights over the same thing everyday..so its always those ppl making the news.

buts thats only those few ppl..THERE ARE other ppl at the school who dont do those stuff..soo..yeah

the only reason im saying this is b/c..my younger friend just start HS..and she got accepted into...robert f kennedy H.S...which is also nearby..the schools has a good education..but everytime i pass by it..theres a bunch of ganster fighting ppl...so most ppl were under the impression that the school was very gangster and fighting..so my friend was scared to go..but now shes in it and she says its not as bad as we thought it was..

but wouldnt the zone school for that area be Jamaica H.S? its right next to thomas edison.. that was my zone school.. but since that school is also known for gangster fighting my mom didnt want me to go b/c she thought id fall underbad influence and be like them...so i didnt go there. but i have friends who go there..and theyre still good..

Don't give up the opportunity just because the school has some "gangsterish" people there.
You should continue your education there, just be careful not to offend the "gangsters" and don't get too popular there.

york is in jamaica right? i live near jamaica and i'm still shit scared of that place. not the school itself but the neighborhood around it. my friend got into both cardozo and york but she chose cardozo. heh.

anyway, to the original topic:
i don't know where that school is, but you should go. i'm sure there will be different people there. but is it the neighborhood or the school that's dangerous?
oh, and don't go to a zone school.

I'm not accustomed to having to apply to high schools...here, we have our school district and that's where we go unless we want to pay tuition to go elsewhere. Applying for high school...that's way weird.

^either you stay for the 9th grade in your middle school and then apply for another high school or just go to your zoned school for 9th grade.

visit it. ask people who go to it. (thats what you do for colleges, anyway) see if you feel comfortable there, regardless of what people have said about it.
if you don't like it.. yeah, go to another one.

whoa I think i live near u

Um I go to Francis Lewis hs. Isn't far from edison. But yeah U don't wanna go to edison

i hear the boy population is bigger than girl population. not that it matters. But then there r also the simply rumors of it being a bad school. And its very close to Jamaica high school. They're practically next door to each other.

This all is if u live in the NYC area. Then... yeah^^^^

the year before last i was accepted to an arts school. i'd heard so many good things about it...but then i talked to people who went there. they loved the school, but they said that it was in the "hood" and that there were a lot of potheads there. so at first, i didn't know what to do. but i figured that as long as i made the right decisions and stayed away from trouble i'd be ok. i decided to go and i've been going there for two years. i love it. and yes, i have seen a fair share of trouble around, but i have my own group of friends and i love the school.

i say go for it. i'm sure you'll find your place in the school. biggrin.gif

hmm i know some people that go there, they said that they like it, it really depends who you hang out with, there's a lot of other schools that have high rate of crimes, but doesn't mean that it's bad. what is your zoned school? if it isn't that bad, then i recommand you go there.

-i think i live really near you..lol..i go to saint francis preparatory school :).

Stay atleast for one year, and if you don't like it then transfer. But you're bound to find people like you throughout the year, so it won't be bad.
