Rofl.
Ok, even though in England if you're over 14, it's with food, and an adult buys it you're allowed to drink(so it was most likely perfectly legal) but...still.
I think she could atleast wait until she's 18, she's got to be a role model for millions of young girls.

From thesuperficial.com:
QUOTE
I love it when 15-year-old girls put on Snoopy shirts and illegally drink beer in front of the camera. Especially when they're fancy schmancy actresses who play Hermione in Harry Potter movies. It's a pretty specific love, but it's a deep one.

That just made me laugh.

For the non-believers:

haha, that's hilarious, but hey, most teens drink anyways. i highly doubt that this would affect her career.

and, isn't she 16, not 15? but oh well, nice to know that she parties like the rest of us.

haha! I agree with yanners, it's nice to know that she parties like the rest of us. Although she does have to be a role model... but hey, nobody's perfect right? I would've been a complete hypocrite if I said that she shouldn't drink... I mean, I'm 16 and I drink a bit...

She's not 16; she turns 16 like, a week before me I believe.

Yea...that's uncool. I really loved Emma Watson. I disapprove!

If you did that in Japan, you're out of the business. They take cds of the shelves, and they pretty much just shove you out of the picture forever. It's happened to at least 2 or 3 young Jpop stars so far, and a jrock vocalist who was found with meth

I guess if she wants to drink, she can.
Isn't the last photograph one with her and a Coke?

I don't think it's ...wrong. I mean she's a teen. Everyone drinks at her age. Besides, all the pressure since everyone thinks she's cool now. I half-expected her to be a cocaine addict too.

GOSH. I DRINK & NO ONE TAKES PHOTOS OF ME AND PUTS IT ALL OVER THE INTERNET.

I feel betrayed.
Tsktsk.

I'm kidding.

They always say Hermione was a risk-taker. I'm sure she well educated herself before doing what she did.

Cause y'know... Hermione did kinda rub off of Emma.

I'm ranting.

Notice how in the first picture the bottle is pretty full, and she looks kind of normal, just goofing off. And then in the next, it's empty... and she's definitely pretty wasted. Haha.

I thought she was skanky/trashy, anyway. This proves it.

Like you said, [I think] it's pretty normal to drink at that age in England. She's turning 16 years old soon, though. For some reason..it doesn't bother me. She's just a normal teenager like the rest of us anyway.

Who cares if she drinks? She's still rich as hell, even if she gets booted from the Harry Potter movies. She can drink herself into a hole and still be okay the next day in her mansion.

If I were her, I'd kick the ass of the person who released those photos.

However, no, not everyone drinks. For example, I do not drink and I am 18.

Drinking does not necessarily mean a person is skanky and trashy. Drinking is much more common in Europe than in the US, and is often done in a more responsible manner.

Oh, I know. I didn't mean it in the actual definitions of the words. But considering the fact that I didn't like her too terribly much to start with, it doesn't exactly benefit the situation.

Meh, I don't think a beer would get anyone WASTED.

And besides, it is her life, let her do what she wants with it. The "millions of little girls who look up to her", probably won't come across these pictures.

I dont like underage people drinking. my little sisters like her thats a pretty bad example for little kids.
maybe she released these to show shes not such a "nice girl' because she always seemed so sweet and innocent.

First of all, I highly doubt they were officially released by her publicist; they were most likely leaked or taken by independent photographers.

Secondly, in Britain or Europe, where she is most likely drinking, she is not underage—it's legal.

HAHA ilu james. exactly, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of alcohol. beer is only what...5% alcohol? it won't make you drunk. heck, i can't get tipsy off one beer alone. and so what if she's drinking, it merely shows that she's normal. celebrities are human, except for the fact that they're so blown up that people want believe that they're perfect, except they're not.

I don't really mind if anyone wants to drink. That's their choice. And, so long as they do it responsibly, it shouldn't be any big deal. But, the biggest problem I have with this thread is everyone is acting like drinking makes you a normal person, "like the rest of us."

I don't drink, infact, alot of people don't drink. Are they not normal? huh.gif

Also, somehow, alot of you seem to imply that since alot of teenages do it in the first place that it isn't a big deal or that that justifies underage drinking, etc. What is with that? huh.gif

there is more than one way to be 'normal'. you can be a normal person and drink, and not drink. they arent mutually exclusive.

and it isnt 'not a big deal' beacuse teens do it. its the other wa around teens do it because it is not a big deal. there is no real reason why someone at 16 should be unable to handle alcohol, provided they drink responsibly

I don't think anyone is suggesting that a person who abstains from drinking is "abnormal". Such a person is certainly in the minority, but a psychologist would be quick to point out that being in the minority does not necessarily make a behavior "abnormal". And it's certainly true that abstaining from alcohol is a healthy and responsible lifestyle choice; it hardly carries the negative connotation of abnormality.

I think the general point was that nothing in the photos suggests that Emma Watson is being immoral or irresponsible with her drinking, which is why it's ridiculous that so many people are making a big deal out of it. If done in moderation, drinking is not a big deal; and as has been pointed out, it's legal for Emma Watson to drink in the UK, or most other European countries, for that matter—as long as it's done responsibly, of course.

Hmm...I'm kind of shocked. I sure know one thing, I'm never going to drink when I get to her age.
I'm sure she's pretty upset now that those photos are out and seen by millions of people.

She kind of deserves it in my opinion.

What a shame.

whats with all the "thats a shame" and "im so dissapointed" comments?

Teens drink, we all know this. shes a teen, so why do we think she'd be like, enept from drinking? im not all that shocked, its not like i expected it. but im just not shocked or anything. and far from "dissapointed" rolleyes.gif i just think we'd be surprised how many actors out there drank and drink at an illegal age. and if anyone wants to see her as a rolemodel thats their problem. This actually makes me see her more as just a regular person...

i think she looks cute drunk. a cute little drunkie

and jeez she looks so much like one my old friends in the first pic

skaning? words, dear.
I actually forgot about Sarah's and thought there was another Halloween-esque occurance.
I wasn't really caring, but since we had the flip-flop out, it seemed as good a time as any to hit you with it.

Anyway, my previous comments were merely that although it's legal to drink younger, it doesn't mean they're more responsible or they do it less at that age just because it's legal, as a friend tried to say. I eavesdop on tales of the previous weekend's "cool" parties every week, and despite them many people I don't care about hooking up, they seem generally tamer than the things you tell me about.

But of course. when it is more of a culturally natural thing to drink, then people do grow up used to it and it becomes less of a big deal, like Italy and whatnot.

that should have been skanking.

well, people DO drink more responsibly because its legal.. like at school, we're limited in our drinks, so we learn abou thow much we can take, and in general, because we arent being sneaky, the temptation to binge while we can isnt really there...

although, at the last sixth form event, gaving and emma had sex in a spanish classroom. my spanish classroom, in fact. im sort of hopin git wasnt on my desk, really.

Exactly. I mean, how drunk can a beer get you? Not all that drunk.

& since when is it a big deal that she drinks? So what? There are many more 16 year olds that drink. Big whoop. Just because she's famous doesn't mean it should become a big deal. Geez.

But it was still in school.

We seem to have a fair share of all that today ourselves, actually. Apparently some guy got arrested for raping a drunk girl. Whether is was consentual or not, it was still statutory (and she was definitely wasted), so he's in a lovely position now.

She looks pretty drunk in that second picture, but really it doesn't make much of a difference anyway.

Drinking responsibly and in moderation is not likely to give you cirrhosis or lead to embarrassing drunken moments or poor decision-making.

I am not shocked at all. If I'm *shocked* at anything, it's the reaction people are having to her holding and drinking a friggin beer. I remember the days when Drew Barrymore was partying it up big time with "booze" and *gasp* drugs when she was that age.

She's legally able to drink, she's young and vivacious, she has a ton of money and she's enjoying life. I say, "Have fun Emma!"

((I'm not saying that enjoying life means everyone should go out and drink until they're stupid, I'm just saying that I don't think she's doing anything wrong at all other than looking like she's having a really good time, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.))

I was the one that posted this topic, I KNOW that.
I'm pretty sure we were talking about american teens in the posts that I made and the ones I quoted/quoted me.

what does creating the topic have to do with you're knowledge of international dirnking culture, whn it was all about one person?

the main conversation has been about the differences between the two cultures, and no where in the post that you quoted did it refer specifically to american teens.

Ahaha! Nice. As long as she doesn't start drinking and driving and then run over some poor little kid, it's cool. I mean, drinking can be fun, as long as you are doing it responsibly. I mean come on, what's the big deal? Most people drink anyway.

In the initial post I stated that I knew very well that it was legal, and I hopefully implied that it's done responsibly.
I was talking about american teens, those who replied to me should have got that.

well, that would be a contradiction, i suppose, if the thread had actually been talking about american teens and drinking after two pages.

and furthermore, i was referring to you saying that you started out talking about american teens, not particularly to where the thread had gone since then.

Ok, even though in England if you're over 14, it's with food, and an adult buys it you're allowed to drink(so it was most likely perfectly legal) but...still.
I think she could atleast wait until she's 18, she's got to be a role model for millions of young girls.
QUOTE

I love it when 15-year-old girls put on Snoopy shirts and illegally drink beer in front of the camera. Especially when they're fancy schmancy actresses who play Hermione in Harry Potter movies. It's a pretty specific love, but it's a deep one.

<snipped>

So I've been reading both of your posts for a bit and decided to revisit the initial post made by Stephire.

I've bolded what bugs me because, well, I'm in a *mood* ;) She wasn't doing anything illegal. Period. I might read the entire article when I get a chance because since so little was quoted, I could be missing some context.

I'm a little with racoons > you (James, right?) in that this thread was about Emma Watson and not about American underage drinking. In fact, I think if this is going to turn into such a debate, then why not move it to *debate*.
