i have.. a problem.
i can't gain weight. no matter what.

i've tried eating more junk food, and i've stayed about 85ish pounds since like, the 4th grade.

And i've noticed i've been eating a lot less. i dont have an appetite a lot anymore.

my mom says it's nothing. i think i'm underweight based on my BMI and stuff, but she says i'm not. mellow.gif i do not believe her.

do you have any suggestions on what to do to gain weight heathily?

Tobyyyyyy, I always thought you were 16-ish.
I remember there was a meal plan on Seventeen.com that helps you gain weight...

Yeah, don't eat so much junk food its unhealthy...just eat more calories from healthier food and don't burn more than you eat, so make sure to eat more than you active if that makes sense.
I wouldn't worry too much though, you're only 12. Over the next few years, you will bulk up.

I want to slap you. In the nicest way possible. DO you have any idea what I would have given to be skinny as a kid? Geez. Look, love it while it lasts. Before your behind expands and you get fat in weird places like your armpits and your kneecaps. Its a great blessing to be s thin girl in this day and age. Everyone seems to be dieting to look like twigs, and you don't have to be unhealthy. In fact stop eating junk food because skinny girls with guts are very unattractive, and thats what will happen. Please eat healthy and stay active so that when you grow to appreciate your thin body while all of your girlfriends are dealing with rolls and plus size clothes, you will still have it. You are going to be glad you did, especially because statistically people pay more positive attention to skinny people because they are plastered everywhere we look. Just eat some broccoli and some chicken and exercise. If you don't like being skinny, work out (push ups and sit ups and stretching) and gain a little bit of lean muscle mass. Nothing looks better than a slender toned person. AND BE GRATEFUL!! I'd kill to be skinny.

hmm...well you should start off by planning out more of a healthy meal. junk food isn't good for you. you should just eat a big breakfast, lunch, and dinner. i mean go to your doctor or something so he/she can suggest the right about of cals and such you're supposed to eat each day. i do believe they can do that. and if you still can't gain weight then maybe you're supposed to be naturally small...i mean after all you are only 12. just don't worry about it too much. wink.gif

Eat lots of bananas! And drink milk! And eat spinach!

Actually, I really have no idea. I haven't gained weight either. I'm still 92 pounds.

I've been 92 pounds for about a year and a half.

i have the same problem. ive been under 100 for my whole life and i cannot gain weight. its because of your metabolism is fast. if you want to gain weight, then eat foods that have fat. and dont excersize to burn off calories. but you have to bcareful because fatty foods = clogged arteries. and you can die from that.

Work out...muscles weigh more than fat. HOWEVER, don't think that weight's all that matters...just as long as you're not getting any health problems regarding it.

I would try to work out a little bit, you could get some muscle, and you'll look bigger. Eat lots of macaroni and cheese, pizza, anything really greasy.

eating food doesnt help as much as exercising and working out. muscle weighs more than fat. i am also a bit underweight for my age and my height. and whenever i see some dieting commercial i think "why dont people have 'get fatter' commercials?"

How do you expect to gain weight if you eat less and less? You can't.. I know it from experience.

Just start by eating whatever food you eat daily, and every day, add 200 calories to what you eat. Count the calories you've eaten all day though.. it's important! And make sure you eat a little more each day.. at LEAST 200 calories. That worked for me.. I'm 17, 5'3 and I weight 102 pounds. I was about 98 before I did that for a few weeks..

I wrote a topic on this, this would be against the rules. happy.gif but I'm in the same situation as you. I'm 13 and in 8th grade, and I weigh 85 pounds as well (I'm 5'0) and my BMI says that I'm healthily skinny, but I still wish I could gain weight. you may be skinny for the rest of your life, but trust me, it's a good thing. as long as you're eating enough (as much as you can take is fine), then you're okay.

I was in the same situation just a short while ago. Eat more. You don't necessarily have to eat junk or oily food more often. Snack more! And my mom and sister have noticed me gain a bit of weight so it's not too bad.

a 15 years old cber like me will help ya out, spiritual winged aura: :]

eat alot of carbs for dinner or before you sleep. why?

You store all the carbs while you're sleeping. these carbs will transform into fat.

however, you need to be patient enough to gain weight. i weighted from 107lbs to 125lbs in six months now.

guess what? i'm perfectly healthy. how did i do that? i eat enough healthy stuff for snacks, lunch, and breakfast.

you gotta eat heavy meals :] heavy meals = sleep better while your junkies turn into fat.

=] Don't worry, as soon as you hit puberty you'll gain some weight. Trust me. I made a topic similar to this last year, freaking out that I was losing weight while already skinny. Then I got to be more n more of a teenage and boom! Out of no where I suddenly gain some weight. Of course, now I don't really like it..but yeh.

Don't eat junk food!

..It's not healthy for you and shit.
Try eating a variety of food from the food pyramid, and if you're that worried, start by counting your calories [if possible]. Make sure you're getting the required 2,500 cals. to gain a few pounds. _smile.gif

Don't TRY to be fat. Being skinny is only bad if it's because you don't eat at all. Just keep eating healthy foods and doing the same thing you have been doing.

i'm exactly the same way. i'm stuck at 90. at 15 years old. no matter WHAT. everything i do....nothing works AT ALL! doctors say it's normal and stuff....but for my height, weight, and age....if i lose about 6 or 7 lbs...i'll be in trouble (aka anorexic) and i hate getting teased about how skinny i am...and it's NOT something to be jealous about. but i've found out that since unhealthy food doesn't matter it any better than healthy food, but instead will do damage to your body, then it's just better to accept yourself and eat healthy. and ask your doctor. i did, and she told me what i just told you!

That's not as bad as some of my friends. Especially one of them. She's 18 and going off to University next year. She's a tad bit shorter than me (I'm 5''3 - short =[) or just the same height. Anyway, she only weights 90 or so. She went to 95 after 4 years, but she got sick once, and dropped back to 90. I guess it's also her health, because she has some infection thing. I guess it's really because she's unhealthy though. But it's still not good.

Try not to exercise TOO much though. It can hurt your body severely. Running a mile every three days helps me out ...But then again, I'm up for LOSING weight, not gaining. Check in with your doctor. He/she will always be able to help, and TRUST them, they're right most of the time. Don't eat junk food, either. It's fatty!

Alright, boy in the girls locker room, everyone scream..whatever, but anyways, I've had the same problem..I'm 16 and a boy..I weighed 125 and you could have seen my ribs when I was changing too, now I weigh 131..what I did was I went to walmart, bought a big jug of protein drink mix, bought a lot of bananas, peanuts, and peanut butter. Go home, put the protein powder, milk, a banana, spoon of peanut butter ( or ice cream ) and honey or anything else that you'd like. Make a schedule like 1 protein drink in the morning, 1 protein drink at night. First week you may not notice any change but the second week, you'll see change.

The more cups you drink a day, the more pounds you'll gain at the end of the week..that's what the jug said and I've been gaining weight lol.

just a wild guess but maybe you have higher metabolism than most people. i know super skinny people who eat like crazy. sometimes that's just naturally how your body is.

Don't worry, I weighed like 80 pounds when I was 12. I was so skinny. Gross. Now I'm 95 and I'm 16.

Don't worry, you are still very young.

Your body is going to be going through alot of changes in the next few years,
so I really wouldn't worry about your weight. Especially if you are under weight, lol.
In the meantime, don't try eating a lot of junkfood and stuff.
It's doing nothing but putting poisons in your body.
Concentrate on just eating well balanced meals.
