Valentine's Day is for suckers. It tortures the single folks and fattens the pockets of flower peddlers and greeting card companies.
I encourage you all to ignore this fictitious holiday altogether whether you're in a relationship or not. Here's what I recommend! Avoid where couples go. Rent an angsty movie. Go to a Hallmark store and watch men panic to pick out "the" card or visit the grocery store and watch people fight over the shrivled remains of valentine's day chocolates and flowers in a last ditch effort for sex. How fun! Who's with me?!?!

Roxy, I love the way you think.
My roommate and I were just talking about this last night. She even updated her Facebook profile with Anti-Valentine's Day stuff. It was quite liberating. Haha. After thinking about the commercial value of the holiday, it makes me feel a little less pathetic about being single on such a played-up, cheesy holiday. |

I don't see why people feel "pathetic" about being single on Valentine's Day, and feel a need to protest against romantic love. There's no reason anyone should feel a "need" to be in a relationship, even on Valentine's Day.

You're right. There's no need to feel that way, but seeing couples around you celebrate this holiday together, it makes me you just a tad bit lonely. Well, it does for me. My emotions shun my logic.
I'm not protesting. I'm just treating today as a normal day, for the most part. I did, however, buy cards and little giftees for my family. We always do that. It's the highlight of this day for me. |

 hey roxy....just let me know what hallmark your at ill come laugh with ya since your in my neighborhood V day is for hopeless romantics...who think objects that cost money will buy a person's love...it's quite funny actually... i saw 5 guys today buying flowers off the street in a last minute effort to get some...how do i know this... because i know three of them  amazing how this holiday seems to put a hole in your pocket no?

i love valentine's day...
however, it really is stupid to waste money on flowers because they'll die and if you try to keep them in water they'll wilt and then you have to clean up after them. it's not that big of a hole if you spend more with love than with money...which is what the holiday should truly be about. |

Today was fun - at the store there was one set of vanilla V-Day cupcakes left. I was head to head with another mom who was eyeing them as I was.
I grabbed them and ran. Those cupcakes are for my little boy dammit. And I wonder why I don't get along with fellow parents. /random Yeah - see what Valentines Day inspires? And does anyone who reads Greek Mythology know what kind of jerk Cupid really was? |

Last year my friend and I were going to go to the mall and run through all the couples that were holding hands in the mall, tearing down signs and posters, and when the cops drag us out we'd scream "VALENTINES DAY SUCKS!". ...lol it was a nice thought. Yes, well, I got the most pathetic valentine ever. It's about an inch by an inch, has grayish hearts on it (apparently the printer was running out of ink) and has "feliz dia de san valentine" written, barely legibly inside. He had about 10 of them too, so they obviously just made them in Spanish, and was handing them out in exchange for food. It made me laugh.

My opinion? I have nothing against Valentine's Day, whether I'm single, or not. I would rather spend the day doing lots of things with my sweetie, but getting showered with gifts are good, too. But I don't think I would need a Valentine's Day to help me appreciate my relationship with my partner.
