Since this is sports related, I'll put this in Entertainment.

Topic moved.

And I had no clue the opening ceremonies were tonight ohmy.gif I'm missing them! I love the Winter Olympics, much more than I like the Summer Olympics. Figure skating = throb.gif

I loved the lighting of the Olympic flame! It was a great design =] . Didn't think the ceremony was as good as Athens, though.

Feel sorry for Torino, it's at a $1 million deficit from the Olympics, Beijing08 is taking all the sponsorships leaving Torino in the dust.

Oh but the Chinese can't afford to screw up their Olympics, so their opening ceremony will just have to be one of the most spectacular.

Man...I don't even watch the olympics anymore. I used to watch it everytime. I do like the opening ceremonies though. VERY NICE! (Like the World Cup's) If there is one thing I watch, it's soccer (Summer olympics). That's like the only thing that interests me. And maybe baskteball.

Well, it's sort of unfair to compare the summer Olympics opening ceremony to a winter Olympics opening ceremony. Just think about how much bigger the summer Olympics are.

Yeah, go Canada! Anyone watch women's hockey? 16 - freaking 0. Crazy cakes.

Chinese did well, I'm proud rolleyes.gif
How disappointing how the second Chinese pair didn't win, but I guess it was hard for the guy. Geez, he only had two weeks of practice because of his torn achilles.

Day 4 so far:

USA rocks at snowboarding cool.gif

I can't believe Bode placed 5th..it's okay though, because that guy from France was amazing! ohmy.gif And I'm sad for Apollo Anton Ohno (doncha just love saying his name?) because he didn't need to be first, but he tried anyway. GR. Oh well, he'll have chances later to get a medal.

Dude, the only reason I was going to watch the Olympics was because of Michelle Kwan. I watchered her performances growing up so it's hard that she's not going to be able to compete anymore. It's like your hero's gone to do other things.

Well, I guess I'll still watch the Olympics cause of Sasha Cohen. But I still say I liked Michelle Kwan better.

For some reason, Michelle Kwan never appealed to me. I didn't have a reaction to her dropping out of the Olympics. *shrugs*

EDIT// Did anyone watch figure skating today? WOW. Did you see Zhang and Zhang's fall?! That was freaking amazing how they got back up and kept skating...and won silver, too!

Me too, but I'm definitely not surprised. I mean really, she's past her prime. There aren't many figure skaters who skate competitively at 25. That and as much as I like Michelle, she shouldn't've gone in the first place. It's time to give the young'ins a chance, which she did after dropping out.

ah, the chinese...i dont know what their names are but theyre the best chinese pair. the guy messed up his foot which made me feel bad and they had a short story abour their coach when he was young. he was parterned up with a 12 yr old when he himself was 29 or something..the guy would always throw her too hard and everytime, the 12 yr old skater would fall during jumps. they ended up getting last place and the audience laughed. it was pretty sad.

The chinese pair was superbly awesome. We've begun integrating Chinese super-acrobatics into the routines. We will surely overcome the Russians in 2010!

Kudos to the the Silver medalists!! Very beautiful routine and lots of heart!!

but..i thought shen and zhao skated better than zhang and zhang.

Inoue and Baldwin were pretty good too and was surprised that they didnt even place.

yea, it really would have. i think she was pretty close as well.

ahh, i still cant beleive kwan isnt competing. its kinda hard to get knocked off number 1 twice by two other good skaters who are smaller than you and who could have more olympic experiences. im kinda hoping she randomly decides to come back in 2008 though..

Well, 2008 is summer olympics. But it's true, I don't think anyone will ever get 9 ntl world championships again.

There is no age limit.

In one of the Russian figure skating pairs, one tall guy and one shorter woman, the man's 34 years old.

2008 is summer olympics, no ice skating.

She'll be 29 y/o in 2010 for the next winter olympics. History teaches us that no 29 y/o can get gold.

True, but she knows she's getting old. Her best performance was probably in the Nationals in 1998 which was about seven or eight years ago. She lost the World Championships in 2004 (or was it 2005?) and well, the older you get, the less beautifully you do your spirals & jumps & other moves. Waatching her for so many years, you gotta understand it's not so easy anymore.

But I'm still sad =(

Okay, the USA in the Olympics as a whole aren't doing too well sad.gif It's like we have all these opportunities to grab the gold, and we just fall short.

I'd reword that as "But that doesn't mean she CAN'T compete."

Oh, by all means, Michelle Kwan CAN compete when she's 29. But she'll be old, in the skating world, so I don't think she SHOULD compete. There are SO MANY new, young, fresh, innovative skaters out there that outskate her, technically.

She should retire while she's ahead, and not leave the skating world with a bad image.

SMH @ Lindsey Jacobellis. She pulled a rico, what a disgrace to the US. When you are in the Olympics you are representing your country first and foremost. Did anybody else see her lead in first place then showboat and crash, causing her to get silver instead of gold? What a disgrace.

I don't have a good feeling about the Canadian hockey team. We just beat the Czechs 3-2, but I'm not so sure about Russia. If we lose to Russia we're done. That's it.
