We don't have enough active members to constitute a new forum just for birthdays. So far it seems to me the amount of bday threads in the lounge is not so much that we need to make a new forum for it.
And for the personal announcements forum...isn't that what your blog is for? |

I agree with Jeff.
Also, the number of birthday threads isn't really an issue to me, because usually birthday threads die off by themselves in about 2 weeks. If they're getting too old and people are spamming in the threads, then they can be closed. |

I actually think this is a good idea, maybe for a subforum in announcements that all members could post in when they have something important that happened to them, such as a family member dying or having a birthday or getting accepted to a college...anything that other members would be concerned about.
Why is this so bad? ![]() |

There are a lot of announcement threads also in the lounge, not even pertaining to birthdays. There is also the pinned "out" thread, which could be viewed as a personal announcement. We've already taken the current events threads out of the lounge (and rightly so, considering they can actually encompas a full forum). But this will turn into a very confusing place for n00bs, I mean even older members are getting their topics closed or moved out of the lounge. If CB is going to continue to make these expanding changes there needs to be a better way in informing members and in the createblog introduction.

Why is this so bad? ![]() Yeah, but there's only so many times one person could say "HEY I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO COLLEGE" before it gets to be a bit repetitive. The same sort of logic I guess could be applied to why have birthday announcements in the first place, but they don't happen that often and like someone said before, they just die out. And why have a forum full of dead topics? And then "my ____ died" might be better suited to the relationship forum or the lounge, depending on how the main idea of the thread is phrased. I dunno, it just doesn't seem too logical to me to have a forum dedicated entirely to personal business. |

I don't think that birthday threads stay active long enough for the idea to exist. If it were to be added to the site, it would also be overlooked, and many people would still use the Lounge for those kind of threads.

I agree with Carrie, we havent had a problem with birthday threads being held in the Lounge before so, yeah, I dont see the point in have a forum soley dedicated to that. I mean if there was an overflow of bday topics that it took up several pages in the lounge then maybe I could see the need for it but it's not like that all. We only get, at most, 5 bday topics a month or so, give or take a few, and these usually are only by active members. Also, I'm dont think having a subforum under Announcements for personal member accouncements is a good idea. I like the fact that Announcements is to annoucement happenings around cB. If I want read about someone getting accepted to college I can check out the School subforum and the like.

I agree with Carrie, too. I mean, just look at the Introductions forum. It's filled with people who just spam in there, saying something like "Welcome to createBlog [insert name here]."
It takes the fun and celebration out of it, and it's not like there are THAT many birthday threads a month. |

indeed... sometimes there just happens to be a clump of birthdays close together.
anyway, if the threads in announcements were left open for extended periods, people are going to start spamming in the threads which are no longer relevant, and its all just a waste of time. i think it's nic eto have them in the lounge, as they get more attention, and mor epeople get to see the news |

It doesn't have to be just for birthday threads....there's plenty of things that CB members want to let others know. For instance, when I get back from France/leave for France this summer, I'm going to want to let everyone know about it somehow. That's something really cool and I'll be gone for two weeks. I don't just want to say "I'm going" in the leaving thread. I want to describe what'll go on - where we're going, what important places we're going to see, etc. Think about more than just birthday threads. I wouldn't put a thread about my trip in the Lounge because it would be considered spam. However, if there was a place to put it, I would be happy and I'd have a place to let others know. I know there's not a lot of birthday threads or even general personal announcement threads, but there would probably be more if people didn't think that everything was spam and if there was a place to put them.
As for posts getting redundant - if the topic's replies are all the same and it's been open for like, 4 days, we do have the power to close them. People always get so fussy about problems that might potentially occur, but there's mods for a reason. We can control it. If it gets too out of hand and everything turns to spam and there's no sense in controlling it, then we can take the forum away. I don't see why not. |

Why has this been re-opened
![]() ![]() //EDIT:Posted: Feb 10 2006, 4:56 PM As for the Personal Announments..i was unaware of...these things will eventually die off as well. yeah it may be nice to tell the whole community but after seeing it once...they won't want to see it agian...unless conversation is invovled..and that's what pm's are for....most likely...it will become inactive...just like any ordinary birthday thread...these arn't things that deserve to have there own thread. ![]() //EDIT:Posted: Feb 10 2006, 4:59 PM this has nothing to do with you...i just don't find this nessesary...Please keep the derrogatory comments to yourself. and just because i don't like you does not mean i won't treat you you with respect. ![]() ![]() //EDIT:Posted: Feb 10 2006, 5:13 PM Those announcements you have linked engage in conversation...that should be done in personal messages...and there's mostly pointless spam...for responses ![]() QUOTE(incoherent @ Feb 10 2006, 5:16 PM) if you think its so bad to have a personal announcement forum just because the effect of them only lasts for a week or 2, whats the point in having an introduction forum? so people can just go in and post "hi. welcome to cB and have fun!" 50 million times over? it seems introductions have the same effect of what personal announcements would, so whats the big deal? //EDIT:Posted: Feb 10 2006, 5:18 PM introductions are used to break the ice for new comers...that is the only reason i thought we had them...to make a first impression on cb. besides that...i don't really see a point for introductions.. ![]() As for Personal Announcements there will be alot more dead forum topics in there..then in introductions...because "EVERYONE HAS A PERSONAL ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE"... intro's are only allowed once... ![]() |

QUOTE(Programmer @ Feb 10 2006, 4:52 PM) why has this been reopened...having a birthday forum is pointless and...most members end up leaving after 3-4 months anyway..the topics die off within....4 days tops...for any time of celebration topics...no need in wasting..a whole thread dedicated to stuff that eventually dies off no matter the circumstance...please i restablish my say to close this topic...i just don't see the need for it... If you actually read the replies, it says as a correction that I put "personal announcements." Plus, as Sammi stated, some announcements such as if you're going on vacation and you're really happy and want to make a topic out of it, putting it in the lounge automatically makes it "spam." However, in the Personal Announcements forum, posting a topic about accomplishments/little joys in life would NOT be spam, and replies in there could be, or not be, counted as posts, such as in the forum games section. And the only reason you're saying that this is a pointless topic may be some, or all, of the following choices: a. You're hopping on the bandwagon to say that this idea is "unnecessary" b. You like to "bash" on me. c. You def. don't like me. d. In my other topics, such as the one with that "scary GIF," you said "close this spam, or move it to the trash." I'm guessing if someone else proposed this idea for a new forum, you would've agreed with it. edit: and how is that a derrogatory comment? Plus, I said MAY BE. I've bolded it just now so it stands out. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showforum=1 That forum is pretty inactive. end. |

Exactly. ![]() Also, the replies don't have to count toward your total post count. Thus, the "spam" or "nonspam" won't count as real posts, like in forum games.. |

Why dont we have a list of members underneath the active members list which tells us whose birthday it is (to avoid clutter lets say only permit official members) therefore if people want to wish them a happy birthday they can PM them

I don't think it's a bad idea, but just think about it. How many people would actually go there to check daily for birthdays? I sure wouldn't. The only reason I notice birthday threads is because I'm in the lounge or I know that person' birthday beforehand. I'd be much too lazy to go check the birthday forum.
