according to wikipedia:

QUOTE
Sudoku (Japanese: 数独, sūdoku), sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a logic-based placement puzzle, also known as Number Place in the United States. The aim of the canonical puzzle is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each cell of a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various digits given in some cells (the "givens"). Each row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral. Completing the puzzle requires patience and logical ability. Although first published in a U. S. puzzle magazine in 1979, Sudoku initially caught on in Japan in 1986 and attained international popularity in 2005. The first world championship will be in Lucca(Italy) from 10 to 12 March 2006.

Sudoku pisses me off because I always try to figure it out at school, and when I'm, like, halfway done, my teacher catches me and takes it up, and they don't return it. mad.gif

I played Sudoku at my school once...

The teacher actually found it mind provoking.

I probably didn't get in trouble since it was an ok time to play it...

No, it doesn't. It isn't a book, movie, sport, or music.

I love sudoku! Awesome. It's the most addictive thing ever, and once I get started, I can't stop.

Its good for entertainment during english class.

Chyeeah. And Kakuro > Sudoku. I am probably the biggest Kakuro/Sudoku/crossword geek out there. :)

Sudoku is alot of fun. Great thing to pass time with.
We were getting a new puzzle in the paper every day, but I'm not sure if that is going on any longer. I would have to check it out.

One of my comp sci projects last semester was to build a (very basic) sudoku program in Java. Sudoku is based almost entirely around rules of logic, so it is actually relatively simple to design and implement an algorithm to check the validity of a puzzle. It was a lot of fun.
