There is a difference. Like...if you find a synonym of another word, there still has to be a difference between the two words.
IMO, having a crush on someone doesn't really need a reason. It may be just a feeling, but for sure it's affection (lust?). For "like," someone can like their friend. There are different types. For the type similar to having a crush on someone, I don't use that word unless I know the person well enough. Meaning feelings develop with at least some kind of reason. I think admiration counts as a crush. If you don't know the person too well (say..do you know his birthday, do you know how he/she acts around friends) then you can't exactly say you like them. i.e.- a teacher...definitely just judging how he/she teaches doesn't mean enough for you to like them. However, if you like someone, it's valid say you have a crush with them. Ah mmk. Just opinions. |

It can mean the same thing!!!
Crush is always the same, but it depends how you use 'like'. (and for the record, in my opinion I don't like any of you) |

For me there's no difference. If i think a guy is hot and i dont know anything about him then i wont say i have a crush on him. I have to know the person to like or crush on him.

It just really depends on your connotations of each of the words. Also the context.
'Like' can mean different things. Do you like them as a friend or like them as in you want to date them or like them as in you're interested or whatever. That's why the word 'like' can get confusing. I think that the word 'crush' is used as to not get it mixed up. It's clear that the way you 'like' that person is in the interest of dating them or pursuing something, etc. So I guess basically they could be the same but it depends on context and one seems to clarify the other. |

In the romantic sense, I'm of the opinion that they mean the same thing.
Of course, like can be more general, as in, "Hey, I like that guy, he's a good guy." But in the romantic sense (which I think you are asking about) I use the terms interchangeably. |

i dont know, there was a girl who told me she had a crush on me (find my topic about it, good luck), and in the end it turns out she was actually obsessed with me. (she told me she was, long story) so its different for everyone.

yea definetly. you can have a crush on ANYONE a teacher, a celebrity, a friend, whatever. but if you actually LIKE them it's more serious and it's also about the personality too.
![]() you can also have multiple crushes but you can't really like two people at the same time. cos if you do you don't really LIKE them do you, it's more of a crush then right? confusing but that's what i think. |

Agreed. Couldnt have said it better. Crush is an attraction. Like is the way you feel for them for their personality and/or looks. |

i think there's a difference... crushes are usually superficial 'likes'... and liking is when you genuinely like the person AS a person, who they are and stuff. but sometimes you may just like the person because you feel a connection, so that would be a mix of both

There is a big difference for me. I mean I could have a crush that i wouldn't really date. But usually the person I 'like" I would want to date. You can have more then one crush too, and crushes aren't really that deep. "like" deals with personality more, I mean it's a big difference. |

Of course dude, there's a difference.
Having a crush on someone is just being attracted to someone (happens all the time), and Liking someone is more of a deep obsession. |

i was quoted like 3 times in this same topic.. thanks, i feel special.. lol anyways..
yeah..... but i see a trend... crush is an attraction and the way you use like, it can mean many things but when you like someone, you tend to get closer to them as in a friendship or potential relationship |

Assuming like means attracted to, I don't think there's a difference.
