I’ve thought of a new rule for whatever layouts of the month, a nominations thread. A nominations thread is a topic where each member can only nominate one site. Therefore, we can have a stack of sites for our actual voting thread. Why? It’s faired for every nominator and it gives them a chance for voters to select varieties of sites.
![]() Also, host will have the ability to reject default layout or shitty ones for the actual voting thread such as Xanga. |

I do see where you're coming from, but it's not exactly a necessary idea, the nomination thread. For one thing, the crappy layouts nver get enough votes to win. Also, the main people who post crappy layouts are those who haven't been here for very long and don't have the post count. And it's just a __ of the month competition, it doesn't have to be enormously complicated/serious.
But, I would be all for an addition into the voting/nominating rules that would allow for the nullification of so called "shitty" layouts. |

^ I think the point of it is that you can nominate yourself as long as your layout isn't crappy.

i get what you're saying, but that seems like a lot more work than how it is now.

We should just do the layout of the month thing like we do every other _of the month. It works - plus it's a sweet benefit for us designers! Another thing to work for - and it improves our skills. Xanga of the Month did that for me. It would be great to have another thing that would push us towards a better goal. An awesome idea!

Do you mean any layouts from any hosting such as Xanga, livejournal, and etc? He was not nominated earlier and didn’t received much votes at all then he claimed to be upset about it. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...opic=115985&hl= ... and now, he's the first one, many people nominated him because he was early. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116247 Hopefully, you'll understand what i was thinking. QUOTE For one thing, the crappy layouts nver get enough votes to win. It woudnt be a good pleasure to see one. If it was a laggy site w/ full of marquee, it would take more time to load ... wait ... and see. We wouldnt know what's so great about it. I got the idea of banning bad layouts. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116399 |

It's not a horrible layout. It's very clean and it does have a certain appeal. Is it as good as some of the others that have won XoTM? Certainly not. Is it default? Yes, it is just a bit. But I don't think it's default enough to warrant disqualification. I'll bring this up to the other staff members.

i dont see why people should be disqualified for having a layout that doesnt pertain to others tastes. if they think they qualify, allow them the chance. just because someone else doesnt like it doesnt mean they should automatically disqualified, they just wont get voted for and can learn from that. besides which, there clearly are no rules for the specifications of what your site can and cant look like (at least in xanga since were talking about thefeverfortheflava one...or whatever his username may be.)

Shouldn't we have rule about that - unfair advantage over classic users? Anyway, have you guys considered a literal "Layout of the Month" for createblog? Where users can vote for their favorite layouts submitted each month? It could be blog specific or all layouts in general. That would be way cool! btw - what ever happened to "___ of the Year" contests? Considering it's a new year, maybe we should start voting for '05. |

QUOTE(digital.fragrance @ Jan 6 2006, 3:10 PM) I agree, but it is Xanga Premium. Shouldn't we have rule about that - unfair advantage over classic users? Normally, Premium layouts have been DQ'd. It's not an officially stated rule, I don't think - I've never seen it written and I've been here for a year and a half - but that's what's been happening up until this point. I don't know how you would agree on a criteria as the fields aren't the same, but it is a very interesting idea. QUOTE(x_angawhomps @ Jan 5 2006, 9:44 PM) Well, that whole situation gave me an idea to make something better. My view of point could be wrong about him but hey, it might be a good idea or not. Who knows. It's up to the moderator’s decision. QUOTE(incoherent @ Jan 5 2006, 7:26 PM) i dont see why people should be disqualified for having a layout that doesnt pertain to others tastes. if they think they qualify, allow them the chance. just because someone else doesnt like it doesnt mean they should automatically disqualified, they just wont get voted for and can learn from that. besides which, there clearly are no rules for the specifications of what your site can and cant look like (at least in xanga since were talking about thefeverfortheflava one...or whatever his username may be.) I mean like ... disqualified some people who thinks that their layout is automatically good just because they put a lot of codes or ... people just don’t look at someone's site then they end up voting themselves. If any moderator decided to ban the idea of discouraging "bad" layout, it's perfectly fine. I just want to share my view point and thoughts with everyone to make our design section better or something. There are a few reasons why people nominate themself. http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=116399 QUOTE(Madame C @ Jan 5 2006, 7:21 PM) It's not a horrible layout.
