Right now, the rules state that it is strongly dicouraged for someone to nominate themseselves, unless they feel that strongly that they are qualified. And I'm sure that the staff feels that they don't think that the people that nominate themselves layouts are that qualified, So I would think that one of the by-laws that be added would be to not allow anyone at all to nominate for their own myspace. becuase the whole point in nominations is to have someone else be a voice for you..

edit//
It does turn-out that this is only the case in myspace, but I don't think it would go over to well if it was only a rule for the myspace-of-the-month but the decision rests in the hands of the by-law mods

Err... It may not be the case in Myspace but in Xanga most of them a rather qualified to nominate themselves. wink.gif Actually, in everything but Myspace I think that's the case.

are you talking about myspace of the month and people nominating themselves? if so, that happens in website of the month, too.

I know that it happens, It's just annoying to see that every month the same person will go in there and nominate themselves when their layout, still won't get any votes, granted some people do change their layout, but I think that the people that do nominate themselves just nominate themselves to do it..

well, if people think its good enough, then so be it. just because they dont get any votes doesnt mean they shouldnt be allowed to vote for themselves. maybe somebody will like it. i know if and when i nominate people, i dont look through everyones xanga/myspace/website so there are a lot that are overlooked. discouraging someone to not be able to vote for themselves leaves them no room to improve or see if others like it.

the loophole with this rule is the fact that people have different ideas of whats good and whats not

although i think this is a good subject to tap on...maybe disqualifying layouts that are misaligned in certain browsers, links dont work, and such

Or layouts that still use default coding of whatever it is? whistling.gif Such as Myspace layouts that are just a changed background and colors and stuff like that? Or a Xanga layout the same way?

^ I agree, I hate when people nominate themselves for having a layout that they just changed a couple of colors on. Those people somehow end up getting a lot of votes, too. I think the winner should at least be able to prove that they put an effort into it. It may be difficult at first to tweak a couple of things, but more experienced users know that there is a lot more to it than that.

I think it's a good idea and definitely something that should be discussed.

If not a set of rules, we could at least have suggestions that would hopefully discourage someone from nominating a layout that doesn't meet them. Like, "Before nominating a layout, ask yourself if it meets the following standards:" and then the list.
