Many people on this site seemed to be defined by whats in their signature or avatar. Furthermore, its as though the person in a user's av/sig can be directly associated with the user.

EX. 1

I have no clue what KC looks like. But when I watch the Boondocks, he comes to mind. Why? Because of his av/sig.

EX. 2

I'm not (somewhat) a fan of Joe Budden. And everytime I see the cover to Mood Muzik, Ding comes to mind *ding*

How important do you guys think it is?

Discuss.

hmm i'd have to say...the first thing that comes to the person's mind when they see your ava/sig has them decide on what they relate you to...

well, it's important in a way, cause thats how i tend to recognize people on the boards, by seeing the familiar avatar/sig of theirs. and yeah it does give insight on the person in some way or form i think.

Thats just it. I thought you were a chick. Especially since girls are claiming to be guys and guys are claiming to be girls (based on gender sign).

I don't have avatar and sig viewing enabled, so I never see anyone else's avatar or signature.

I also change my avatar every once in a while so don't get used to it. In fact, I'll change it again.

Apparently pretty important.. I had an avatar featuring Ayaka Komatsu for almost five months. Until I posted my photos in mod introductions everyone thought I was Asian.

I try to look at the symbol by people's usernames (if available) to see what their gender is.

It's true though.

Like, I remember certain people on the boards who never post their picture, but their avatar and sig has some sort of cartoon/celebrity in there, and when I see this.. "thing", they come to mind.
Er.. you know what I mean.

Like reili for example. Her avatar and sig is from chobits, and now everytime i read or watch chobits i think of her. haha.
edit:// well it was. i just now saw that she changed it rolleyes.gif

oooh, and remember how everyone thought jordan was a girl? part of it was because of his (old) avatar and sig.

It is a little important. Usually, it does kind of reflect who they are.

Anyway, I guess it does effect the way you think about a person.

Gender sign.... I switched mine because the pink annoyed me. Importance oof the avatar and signature.... Fairly high. It shows what you like and your personality, even if it's all text.
And it's not Chobits anymore. It's.... Um.... Doujinshi art. Yeah.

I thinks its cool when you have a scheme where your avatar and your sig matches. Just me.

But yeah, certain things remind me of certain people from CB, kind of like you and Kanye, or Steven and Joe Budden.

i think the whole av/sig thing is really important. for example, i noticed that if someone has an actual picure of themselves they are so much more recognizable and i read what they have to say. and when someone has a really nice sig/av you tend to think of them more positvely. it's kinda weird... pinch.gif

It's weird how I don't do that. I kinda recognize them, but... -shrug- It's more of the post style that reminds me of who they are.

I don't really like the idea that I'm remembered not for my actions but by just a jumble of text and images that is attatched to all of my posts. That may be just me, but it explains why I've done away with my avatar and sig; I only use my sig to link my writing, occasionally.

I think you pay closer attention to people with their pictures in their avatars for a different reason. tongue.gif

I do look more favorably on someone with a nicely-designed avatar, though.

It's a means of self-expression so I guess it's pretty important. I just turned on avatars and signatures yesterday and I'm starting to recognize people by their avs/sigs. Before I turned them off, situations in real life would remind me of cB members and their avs/sigs. You're not alone. tongue.gif

The avatar and signature is just a way people want to express themselves or show something they show interest in. It just shows their individuality to me.

Yeah same with me. I scroll through looking at the avatars to find someone's post.

And yes, I think that it gives a little bit of an insight into the person; if it's a music artist it shows what music they're into, etc.

A person's avatar and sig are what make me notice them and remember them around CB. I think they're important because they give people a little look inside who the person is as an individual.

Yah your avatar & Sig I think are very important.
People base a lot of their opinions on you through them.
How you look (if you have pictures up), what you're into (anime, movies, your photoshop skills,etc..)
Which reminds me, I def need a new sig. I just haven't had time, and I'm too lazy lol. And i'm horrible at making them. lol
They are pretty important.

It allows me to quickly identify users by looking at a page, but I usually remember users more for the content of their posts than their picture. I have sigs disabled anyway, which cuts down dramatically on page loading times (since everyone has to have huge images in their sigs wink.gif ).

hmm. well, i always have the av and sig enabled because i'm too lazy to disable them. but yes, they do sort of tell you about how a person is, and you can infer what kind of person they are and imagine their life. then, you can come up with weird stories and think about all the different aspects of their life.

o.o umm, wow. i seriously need to get off createBlog.

i try to make my sig/avt. as much related to me as possible
my avatar is a picture of me on the last day of school last year with one of my brother`s punk-rock friends. i like this avatar because it shows i can hang out with different people. althought you can barley tell.

my sig right now explain`s who i love. before it was a custom nike dunk, before that was a picture of me and some punk rockers [brothers friends again], and before that was little icons which stood for the things i love. then before that i had a picture of me& my husband. so my sig pretty much sybolizez what i love, and the color i`m feeling. i am actually not feelin` purple right now. but orange. [w/e] yeah then little stuff like 'cliqs' as i call them. haha me&de, then links to my pages i have.

simple as that.
avt=something that rep`s me.
sig=things i love

oh yeah. and i`ve had the same avatar since i joined cb.. haha.. i think? w/e. its ollddddd

I'm not a big fan of having pictures in signatures, they take up too much space.

Avatar: I think Bender from Futurama is underated (much like the show itself)

Signature: I like to inform y'all of famous Bender quotes.
"I'm a CB-er...GET ME OUT OF HERE!" was huge the first and third times, so I like to have a huge countdown to the next one, although some people tend to try and break the countdown by making one when they damn well please. _dry.gif .

My sig is just me. Occasioanlly a few of my own raps, flos, written word or lyrics from a song i like at that current moment and time.

I guess my av and sig would present me as a Bay Area female with a taste for music ? o_o

After I make Green Team's, and Chee-ho's. I swear I'll get to it though.

Yeah. I'm pretty much hoping that people won't judge me by my avatar. I'd much rather be judged by my signature. laugh.gif Quite frankly, my avatar is pretty odd. I have to get a new one.

QUOTE(Azarel @ Dec 30 2005, 1:31 AM)
I don't really like the idea that I'm remembered not for my actions but by just a jumble of text and images that is attatched to all of my posts. That may be just me, but it explains why I've done away with my avatar and sig; I only use my sig to link my writing, occasionally.

i miss your old avatar... the one withthe girl... i thought it was pretty. anyway...

i only really think of avatars as a way of seeing who ha sposted, in th esame way as reading the user names... some to me are recognizable, others less so.

My sig's pretty old. My avatar is even olderrrrrrr. I guess I realized the importance of these two (not really important but you get what I mean) cuz...hah...my sig catches attention. And my avatar just tells people my name.

P.S.- I'm too lazy to put my gender sign :P.

I recognize the person who's posting by their av and sig first, or the font they use if they do use a different one. So, I guess it's somewhat important and I do get confused when people change theirs on a daily basis..but whatever =]

I think that av/sig also shows your graphic skills. I guess mine are pretty lame, but I just never tried. The one I'm using was one I found a long time ago while surfing. Thus the av/sig shows that I'm lazy as a person and as a designer.

So you can easily find someone's post or recognize them without seeing reading their name.

I think they can be that important. But if you're like me my sig/av changes every month or so. So it might be hard to pinpoint me with any one thing. Although I think everyone here will see that Geri Halliwell is a popular theme in my av's and sigs so I think she'll be tied with me.

The images used are actually from a black and white film. So, I'm cool.

Right?

thats true.

what i sort of dislike is when people have themselves as their av/sig especially if they're not all that great looking in the first place. i guess its easier to identify who they are but still. sometimes i'd rather not look at it.. but its not like i can help it if i see them in threads.
