The mods decide their own time. They have lives. Please be patient for now.

Actually there is currently something wrong with our image uploader so please be patient and we will get to it, until the problem is fixed.

There are usually around 20-25 skins in queue, and we are asked to accept them in the order that they are submitted for review. At times, we are unsure to accept or reject one, so we [or at least I did..] have to wait a bit, and during that time, more and more skins are submitted and alas, a longer queue happens.

But the mods can't upload to the img server right now, so no skins are being accepted.

yeah, i thought it was something like that, what with the bandwith being down for a couple days and whatnot. (and i'm sorry for seeming impatient) i just thought i'd see if things could be clarified a little for anyone who might have been wondering..

thanks a bunch.

[edit]
maybe it would be a good idea if there was some kind of place people could go to easily get questions like this answered? some sort of "breaking news" or "updates" thing? where mods/admin could post when/if servers are down, things are going slowly, or other types of news? so idiots like me wouldn't have to make threads every time the bandwith limit gets exceeded or the uploading thingamajig isn't working.

i dunno...just...yeah...suggestion.

isn't that why there is a 'announcement' forum?

well yes, but that tends to be used fo rmore... i dont know.. .long term news? fo rinstance announcing a new hiring for mods and whatnot.

but yes, a sort of breaking news thing woul dbe nice, f only of saving people the trouble of questioning everytime they feel like they've been waiting a while to hear about a layout.

How about just one thread in announcements.. Like, "The Official 'CB is Broken!' Thread" or something. One of the mods/admins can keep the community updated when there's a problem by posting in/bumping that thread. It'd make it very simple, keep everyone informed, and get rid of a need to create a new forum.

^
good idea. the only slight problem with having one thread, is that it wouldnt become immediately obvious that a new problem had arisen

Well, what I'm thinking is that it would be closed (no comments, no spamming). The Announcements forum doesn't get too much traffic, so a new post would stay on the forum index for a while. So if on the main page you see that thread, you'd know that someone had posted and that there was something going on, not just a random "Ooh, thank you!" or something like that. :P

I guess it wouldn't be as apparent as like an entire forum, especially since it would only get bumped once when an update is given. But if people are waiting on a layout to be accepted or if the images all suddenly stop working, they'll be able to look in the announcements forum for an update, see that the thread has a recent post, and allow themselves to sleep soundly at night knowing that the problem has been acknowledged by the staff. wink.gif

As always, I'm probably thinking way too much into this.

^ I like the idea of that. Since this would be annoucements and all.

By the way, the server is up again and I can see that most of the layouts that were submitted some time ago have been either accepted or rejected already.

mmm. it is a good plan. perhaps the thread could remain closed and unpinned when the site is working properly, and then when a staffer gives an update, they can also pin it, jus tso it is even clearer when the thread is 'active' and when it isnt.

Is there any way to mass PM on CB, so all Members and Official Members could be PMed with the news? That way it's always like, right in their faces. They can't not know.

it is probably possible, but then would one pm box being full upset the sending of the entire pm? like would it still send to all the other usernames if one was unavailable? because otherwise it's useless...

but let me go and play around with the admin cp on genf to see if it is doable there, because if it is, then chances are you can do it on CB too.

the queue system works like this:

people submit layouts and all of the following staff members are allowed to view + accept/reject the layouts:
  • xanga
  • myspace
  • design
  • head staff
  • administrators
  • blogger
  • livejournal
and the speed of the accepting/rejecting of the skins is based on how quickly/slowly the staff members review the skins.

we will try out best to keep the system moving at a faster pace.

the servers seem to be down again for some images.

i wouldn't be concerned about this if i didn't have visitors to my own site breathing down my neck about their layouts not working.

just thought i'd be a nuisance and point out the (probably) obvious. :]

^ Most of the LJ layouts are not working right now. =\

Nevermind, they all seem to be fine now. I don't know of any broken layouts.

yeah...the images seem to be working fine now.

but when they weren't, my older layouts weren't working. if you look at my list of layouts, everything older than "retrospective III" (including that one) was not working properly.
