I'd say go with it.

I sell digital cameras at my local BJs wholesale club, and with what you want, I'd definitely go for the Elph you picked out. Great picture quality, good looks, and portability.

Personally, and everyone has their brand, I'd prefer a Fuji Finepix camera. For what youre looking for the Z1 would be great. Small, portable, sleek and sexy, and with the Real Photo Technology from Finepix it brings taking pictures that much closer to how the eye sees them. Its got a gorgeous 2.5 inch LCD screen. Its only 5.1 megapixels compares to the Elph's 7.1, but all in all, its not going to make the biggest difference. For printing, emailing, putting on the web, or just plain personal use, 5 will do perfectly. Plus, for those quick shots, its got a mere .6 second startup and a .01 second shutter lag.

Man, now I want a new camera, haha.
