This needed to be brought back because it is SO important.

WORDS THAT DO NOT CHANGE WHEN YOU MAKE THEM PLURAL:
Homework.
Advice.
Sheep.
Moose.
Deer.
Pants.
Fish.

There is no such thing as "homeworks". It doesn't exist. Nor is there such a thing as "advices". No.

Incorrect:
omgs i hav soOoOoooOoOoOo many homeworks today >.<;;

Correct:
Oh geez, I have a lot of homework to do tonight. >.<;;

Incorrect:
duz ne1 want sum advices????!!

Correct:
I am completely up for giving advice to anyone who may need it.

That is all for today. Perhaps there will be more lessons later, but this just really needed to be done.

What is lame? Way to be specific. Correct grammar is lame? On that point, I strongly disagree. Or people making stupid mistakes is lame? Well, yes, obviously. Either way, spamming is pretty lame wink.gif

ooooh, low blow. yawn.gif
THIS TOPIC is lame. outlining a few grammar tips is, inevitably, not going to stop people from changing the way they type. come on, it's the internet. people can speak/type however they want, yeah? =/
but that is merely being said based upon my own opinions. if you don't agree, i do not give a flying crap. _smile.gif

and since when is stating an opinion referred to as "spamming"?
ENLIGHTEN ME. worthy.gif

kthxbye.

Stating an opinion is not spamming. Making an ambiguous two word statement is. I don't give a damn what you think, but if you're going to say something, you should actually say it.

Oh, oh, another word to add (depending on usage):
Drama.
OK:
There is drama starting in this thread.
Not OK:
There are dramas on createBlog as a whole.
EXCEPT:
I'm going to compare the two dramas I watched at the theater. The review will go in the school paper.

Also something that bothers me is when people conjugate verbs wrong.
The two that bother me are "to be" and "is." Oh yeah and the past tense of write is not written or wroten (that's not even a word).

And double negatives. Gahhhhhh. "I don't want nobody to touch that." NO NO NO NO NO! You're saying the opposite of what you mean! And once again, I hate it when people don't know the difference between "good" and "well." Not everything is "good." How are you doing? Not GOOD! You're doing WELL (not "your," either).

This is not even an internet elitist thing for me. It always bothers me. My dad's grammar is horrible, and I'm constanly getting in trouble for correcting him, but it's so WRONG and I just cannot tolerate it. I honestly cannot understand the concept of wanting to sound ignorant.

^^ Oh dude Nazis..where? OMG NAZIS YAY! HOT GERMAN GUYS WOOT....ok yah I guess I'm a little nazi obsessed.

So back on topic.
When people write like this:

LyK WeN u RiiTe AlL lYk Dis HoMiE g!!!!1111 CuZ RiitIn LyK diiS MakEs U lOoK lYk A sToOpiiD LoOsEr!!!111

you get the idea, when people type all up and down, too many exclimation(sp?) marks, Spelling Ceneticly(sp?). And WHY TWO "I"'s?

Also, when people don't put a capital letters at the beginning of sentances, isn't that what they learn you when you start school?

Also it irks me when people don't use punctuation. Not even full stops.

Oh yeah and when people say 2 instaead of to or too. and 4 instead of for. It's like people have forgotten the whole english language.

I mean...
Yo HoMiiE G!!111! SuP DuDe? R u LyK 2 LaZy 2 TyPe NoW oR sUtTiiN? Or HaVe U 4got HoW 2 Tok?

Oh yeah and where I live it's just as bad people type the way they talk too but it's different.

EX:
me: Hi
them: heyy!!1
me: how are you?
them: awrite ta, u?
me: good thanks.
them: gdgd. so wit u up tae?
me: nothing much. How about you?
them: ma pals wur jst roon fir t an a wis jst oan ma trampoline a jst hud tae take them hame jst there the noo
me: eh, can you talk english please?
them: naw a fcuking canae!!!11 cnt ye reed or summat
me: well if you fcuking talk English I'd maybe be able to read what you're trying to say.
them: well fcuk u den. Yur stoopit if ye cannae reed lyk dis
me: why the fcuk do you type like that anyways
them: every1 here toks lyk dis. y dae u tok aw posh
me: Just because everyone types like that, it doesn't mean you have to. And I'm not typing all posh, if you havn't noticed it's called ENGLISH.
me:-blocks-

ugh, could anyone actually read that?

Okay seriously though-- it IS a free country. People can type however they want. This is such an overstated topic. Everyone who frequents CB has decent enough grammar and spelling, those who don't quickly learn. I think it's incredibly insensitive for you to constantly target people who haven't perfected punctuation. Also, there are some people at CB that don't consider English a first language. Nicki has even made a topic very similiar to this already. I just find it useless.

Also NAZIS ARE NOT HOT. Germans may be, but brutality and narrow-mindedness is not.

Have I?

Well, anyway, wrong is wrong. Grammar rules don't change for the dim. Excessive reminders is how one learns, too. For example, I'm going to continue to correct my 4 year old brother's speech because I'd rather him not grow up into an illiterate moron, no matter how many times my dad tries to tell me "he speaks good for his age" (which is actually presicely why I won't let it go, because my dad's grammar is horrid and he sounds like an irksome buffoon). I spent my whole childhood being told to say "someone and I" rather than "me and someone" and while I resented it then, I appreciate it now. You may consider it useless, but it isn't. Also, by the way, not everyone here lives in the same country, and regardless of where we live, it isn't that free. Even if it were free, we still need standardized communication. Freedom is not the same as being able to completely disregard grammar rules. This isn't a mandate that in order to post on createblog you must be exceptionally literate, remember ever single apostrophe and never mispell a word. It happens to the best of us. However, some things are just completely incorrect. If people are too stubborn to pay attention in school, they need to learn it elsewhere, and they won't if we just leave them peacably to their ignorance.

You proved my point exactly Nicki. All this is is a thread for people to be picky about grammar rules. I'm not saying they aren't important, but honestly I don't see what we can do except nod our heads in agreement. We aren't going to change anything by posting a mundane topic and bickering about the whole subject.

edit//

Yeah, I think this was all covered in the kthxbye thread.

I don't think I did, really. The rules are important. Neglect of grammar could result in the corruption of the language, and that is both an art and a necessity that we need to maintain. While this is not going to have a huge impact, what is? Even an official like PETA isn't going to do half as much good as they wish they could. Good intentions, but they'll only succeed in getting mocked by the majority and allow those who buy in to feel morally superior. I mean, if you really want to look at it that way, why bother to provide public education? I mean, some people just don't want to learn, right? Why try to make them? It's not going to work anyway. Survival of the fittest. Instead of assuming everything is a lost cause, try to change things. Those who catch on will be better off, those who refuse to take advantage of the knowlegde being fed to them lose. Whether something makes an impact on the world or not, it's still worth a try. Anything that teaches anyone anything is worth while. If it's not hurting you, why complain? Bad grammar actually does hurt me.

For those of you who apparently don't know -

A while ago, before a lot of your CB time, Kim (Days Nearly Over) and I had started an English class. We had weekly lessons and tests and they were pinned because it was a part of CB. That's why this is labelled "lesson 3"; there were 2 beforehand. So, if you have a problem with it, that's pretty much too bad. I'm sorry you missed out on the complaining time back then.

Money does have a plural form, although it is spelled "moneys", not "monies" (God bless those inconsistent English spelling rules). It is akin to "peoples" in that it refers to several groups of types of money (such as "The moneys of North American include the American dollar, the Canadian dollar, and the Mexican peso").

Yes they are supposed to have a period after every letter. I'm not really understanding the loathing of the "LOL" though. This is the internet. The birth of the conversational acronym. Who cares if someone says LOL? or ROTFL? No one wants to type out that they are laughing out loud. The moment would be over by then.

But if there weren't LOL as an acronym, no one would say "laugh out loud" to begin with because it's stupid. How hard is it to type "haha"? Yeah, not very. It does in fact take a lot less time than typing "ROFLMAO"

THANK YOU.

You guys, "lol" may be okay in SOME occasions. But there is not an honest reason to type it constantly. "hahaha" makes you sound more genuine, less-annoying, and takes less time to type. And "muahahha" sounds better all around and evil.

Now who doesn't want to be evil?
