I'm new to wordpress and I'm trying to get wordpress to my site. Unfortunately, I can't get the installation right. I did exactly what wordpress.org installation guide, and it's still not working. I've made a database in MySQL called wordpress. Then I re-named wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and edited it as the tutorial said. I installed wp-admin/install.php and when I click on it. I get a bunch of numbers, symbols, etc. When I looked at it, there was a phrase that said I already installed Wordpress. I didn't even install it yet or something. On the tutorial, it said you should go to the install and it should have it set up. But I don't have that, just a bunch of words/phrases. I hope someone can help me, thanks. question: which did you do first? upload the files, and then edit it? or edit the wp-config file and then upload the files?

I have a feeling you may have done the first..and that may be causing the problem, but it's just a feeling.

Yes the first time. I re-named it, edited it, and uploaded it.

Edited//
Well, I uploaded all of the Wordpress files and it's still not working. Then I found out something wrong, I had to put them in the root file. So dumm`ish of me. (x But it still not working. This is what I get : "There doesn't seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn't work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file."
I have that file in the root with it, but for some reason it's not working. Then, I just got the same file and add -sample.php. It's still not working. Errgh.

Did you ever ask your host if they have fantistico. That could set it up for you in like 5-10 minutes. OR if its your domain and you have it ..

Anyways you might have to clear out any tables? I think thats what there called. in your database if your still having problems and try again..

Yeah, I got the wordpress going.
I feel so dumb now. My host told me that fantastico has the Wordpress on the forums that I posted. I always wondered what Fantastico was on the Cpanel.

Thread can be closed now.
