when you get a domain.. what happens?
when you wanna transfer the domain .. how do you do that? how do you really own the domain? because i know like for hosting you can log-in, but for a domain.. how do you really set it up? .. could someone give me the details? because im thinking about getting a domain for my birthday or christmas. thanks :) |

Well... if you go to GoDaddy.com, 1and1.com, or somewhere else, you'll set up an account. Once you do that, you would then buy hosting. After you buy hosting from a company, they will give you 'Name Servers'. For example, ns1.hostingcompany.com would send the domain to your site, so to speak. Once you recieve these, you would enter them into your account at say GoDaddy.com After it propogates, which could take a few hours, it will all work.
For transfering a domain, all your really doing is changing your Name Servers. |
