Usually, when I plug my iPod into the computer, iTunes pops up and then the songs are updated onto my iPod. However, it doesn't do that anymore. I've tried updating iTunes and my iPod but it doesn't help. My iTunes says that my iPod isn't plugged in when it is because my iPod is charging through the computer.

My question is, how do I get iTunes to recognize my iPod so I can update my songs?!

Have you taken uot your iPod and stuck it back in? You should uninstall everything then reinstall it all, from the origianl disc.

Hey wait, do you have an old iPod? I know for my niece, when she stuck her iPod into her cousin's computer, all her songs got delete ( pinch.gif ). If you have an old one, that's probably why...

Or maybe a driver or something is missing? If your computer doesn't recognize your iPod, then iTunes won't recognize it either. I remember that happened to my iPod nano, where my songs didn't even show up, iTunes didn't even read my nano, but my nano still charged. mellow.gif Weird huh? lol. I ended up having to delete all my songs and reformatting my iPod, so everything got wiped out.. pinch.gif

But after that, everything's fine and dandy. :] ALTHOUGH, I'm not telling you to do this, since there's a chance it won't change a thing... so many you should NOT update your ipod like I did, with the ipod updater.

Does that USB port function properly when other devices are connected to it?

Yeah, go to the iPod support site (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/). They usually can help you.
That's happened to me before. Does your computer not recognized the iPod at all? Try uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it. If your ipod is recognized, try to restore it.

I'm it probably does since she said that it still charges... Hmm..

As for the iPod support site... Yes it is useful, but trust me, it's going to take a WHILE to figure out. I remember I went to the iPod support site, and two whole days trying to figure out the problem... mellow.gif It's only useful to a certain extent. Some people still have their questions unanswered... Sad. I wish I could help them. :/ The poor customers and their defected iPod nanos.. :/

Also, if you can't find any solution, take your ipod to an Apple store and ask someone there for help.

Well, I don't want to have to reformat my iPod and add all the songs all over again. I have close to 3000 songs on my iPod and not all of them are on my computer anymore so I don't want to do that.

My USB port does recognize when other things are plugged in and it charges my iPod. Tunes doesn't see that the iPod is connected to the computer.

I guess I'll keep searching on the support site.

Oh and yes, I've taken the iPod out, disconnected it, reconnected it, everything.
