what do you look for in a girlfriend?, what qualities interest you?

I know there's been others, but they were really old. Yes, I know it's a duplicate topic, though I'm usually pretty lenient on that...

Anywho.
What qualities make you say "Hey, this girl might make a good girlfriend" right off the bat? What're you looking for? What interests/hobbies/general knowledge would you be looking at?

Please go into more than just looks or "funny and nice and smart". Otherwise, it's like, duh. Cute, funny, nice, smart - We all know people want that. But what do you want, individually?

Similar interrests, fun to be with, good personality.

And because "Opposites attract" It's cool if they like different stuff as well.

I'd say personality matters more than looks and my standards for pretty aren't exceedingly high. Though I'd say my girlfriend is beautiful =]

If they like doing stuff and enjoy talkign to you, try new stuff with them. Now I'm sorta rambling, haha, any girl you have fun talkign with is worth a shot to me.

well let's see...

first, nice looks. either hot or cute. i prefer the cute ones. doesn't really matter that much, it's just the easiest thing to see.

niceness. i don't like malicious girls. mean, sure, as long as she has spurts of niceness.

self confidence. low self esteem is very unattractive.

someone i can talk to. this one's pretty important. she listens to what i talk/rant about, and is able to talk/rant about stuff herself.

able to argue. i like debating with people. a girlfriend shouldn't be an exception.

intelligent. stupid people are annoying, but i do tolerate them.

avalible. self explanitory, i think.

huggable. i like hugs more than kisses.

someone i like. there has to be a sparkish thing, you know. this one's the most essential, and the most unpredictable.

err... yea. i think.

I am personally interested in girls who have better things to do other than hang out with me. Sure, I would like a girl who I could just be around all the time, but I also prefer a girl who has big goals, and is willing to work for those goals. Girls who don't talk about a scene or specific people, but rather society and greater events. I would like a girl who is intelligent. Not dumber than I am, and preferably not much smarter. I'm not referring to book smarts, rather "common sense" and ethical intelligence. Someone who is possibly on the same level of intellectual and ethical maturity might be nice? Most importantly, I want a girl who is rational. Someone who won't waste my time and money. Imagine me checking someone out. Very hard to tell all these things just by the way a girl looks and smells. I have to spend copious amounts of time getting to know girls if I want to be "on the market".

CAN SOMEONE JUST HOOK ME UP WITH AN ACCOUNTANT OR LIBRARIAN THAT CAN DISCUSS NON-MARXIST SOCIALISM? THAT'D BE GREAT, THANKS.

I liked this topic, but it kind of died down, so I think I am going to get it kick-started for Sammi. _smile.gif

I should preface this by saying that it was really tough to compile a list, and clearly, I don't feel a potential date must meet all of these requirements. I hesitate to even make a list of guidelines; but then again, I think to develop a good relationship, it's important to really note what you want. So I racked my brain and came up with a few basic, non-binding guidelines of what I like to see in young women. In no particular order:
  • Fun. First and foremost, she has to be able to have a good time. Maybe this seems like an obvious trait, but I think a lot of time people really do overlook its importance. She can't be overly dramatic, or melodramatic. I'm a fairly relaxed person, and I like people who don't stress me out. I need to have a good time with her, be it something as simple as watching a DVD or playing Xbox. She should have a good sense of humor, too; note that making jokes herself is not a requirement, but being able to laugh and generally have a good time is.

However, she should still be pretty mature, just not so mature that she forgets how much fun it is to be a kid.
  • Not overly serious. Kind of goes along with being fun, but it's also important that she not be overly serious. Life is a big game, and people need to remember that. It's not that serious. Have fun while it lasts. Live in the present, not the past or the future.
  • Intelligent. I like people I can talk to. It's cool if she's well-read, maybe able to engage in "philosophical" discussion or even debate. But I also don't want someone who goes out of her way to be intellectual. Those people are too fake. And to be honest, by smart, I mean that, given the option, I'd like the girl who can do integrals in her head, or talk about particle accelerators, or the Google computing cluster ( throb.gif ), over one who is a "pseudo-intellectual". Hey, I like intellectual discussion, but I'm more of a math/science person myself, and I relate much better to people like that. (Not that the artsy-poetic types are bad...I just don't understand them. wink.gif )
  • Relaxed. I'm probably getting redundant, but a girl who is relaxed and at ease is key.
  • Confident. Probably should be higher up on the list for emphasis, but recall that this list is not in any order. This is important. Confident people are much better at carrying themselves, and handle social interaction a lot better. They're also not whiny and bitchy and angsty towards life. wink.gif
  • Athletic. I like to run, move around, and so forth. She doesn't have to be a super athlete, of course, but I like people who keep themselves in shape. It also says a lot about her personality--staying in shape takes a lot of determination and discipline.
  • Short. This is a minor one, but I'm not very tall, so I'd prefer a girl who isn't, like, six feet tall or something like that. wink.gif Maybe it's a wee bit shallow of me, but I think we're all allotted a bit of shallowness from time to time.
  • Similar interests. She doesn't need to be exactly like me, but we do need something to talk about, right? I love to learn about new things, so she should bring something new to the table, but if she knows what Linux is, or likes cars that go fast, or can recite the specs of the Xbox 360, or discuss the technological aspects of the Google computing cluster ( throb.gif ), then she's okay in my book. (And yes, that's kind of nerdy, but...so am I, so I imagine she'd have to be, too.)

1) someone who doesn't care about physical appearance and refuse to drink anything besides water and eat salad without dressing.
» makes guys insecure as well
» another option off for inviting girls out
2) someone that shares the same interest.
» something to talk about. opinions blehh..
3) someone who's genuine from the inside
4) fit
» not like..super skinny or it won't be good to cuddle with
» not obese but someone that's fit like..in shape.

personally, i want someone who will tell me when im talking bullshit, and be able to tell me why.

she needs to be able to stick to her guns, and be able to take someone on if they're out of line. self confidence is a must, i dont want someone who would just back down.

make me laugh... in a group... dont just sit back and let everyone else over shadow you... have a personality which brings itself to the front. i want someone who i can look at when we're all hanging outand think 'wow, shes with me. im a lucky bastard...'

dont have hang ups... i dont want lectures on smoking or drinking... you dont have to do it, just be content with others.

I'm going to say the qualities I want in a boyfriend, since I'm a straight girl.
(I will compile my list a la Michael.)
  • Intelligent - Stupid people piss me off. Besides, I should be able to discuss politics and philosophy and all that jazz with him. I also like a good debate.
  • Funny - He has to make me laugh. If he cannot be witty and make me laugh and he's extremely boring, then no way.
  • Mature - He can be wacky and silly, but there's a limit. I'm pretty mature for my age, and I won't tolerate him if he's going to act like a baby all the time.
  • Wordly - I love different cultures and people, and I'm willing to try anything at least once. I think worldly people are so interesting and cool, very good to have a conversation with.

Ambition/Independence Nothing is more attractive than a woman who depends on herself. The lady has to be climbing for a summit somewhere...not descending.

Awareness Climb fast, but enjoy the climb. Nothing's worse than someone preoccupied with something to the point of mania. Strive for something, but keep it cool and be ready for disappointment. The ability to bounce back is on a different level of sexy.

Cuteness I don't care what you rate on the 1-10 scale; if I think you're cute, you're in. My definition of cute really lies in a girl's mannerisms and outlook. A cute voice helps, too.

An Agenda Have something to talk about, eh? Conversationalists earn points, the others...don't.

No Obsessiveness! Ick. That's the fastest way to annoy someone. Again, as long as the girl plays it cool and doesn't need cue cards and someone's hand to hold all the time, thumbs up.

An Opinion Debating is fun -- the country's built on it. People without opinions are people without substance.

Activity I like running and playing soccer and basketball, etc. I'm not saying the girl has to like running or soccer or any sport for that matter...just maybe that she understands that I do -- and maybe make an attempt to go on morning runs with me. _smile.gif

Umm, that's it. Really.

Not really. Isn't that the point of 'independence' -- my first standard?

Oh wait, you can't read. _dry.gif

hahahahaha!! are u serious? that makes no sense kid!

if a woman was independent how would that affect whether or not YOU get your ass wiped? dumbass - it would only apply if the roles were reversed and YOU were wiping HER ass, b/c then she would be dependent on you, and then you could cite your queer lil list of perfect qualities, but until then keep acting like a deuschbag!

First of all, take it to PM's or IM's, guys. Don't air your dirty laundry in public.

Secondly, for future reference, it's "douche bag", not "deuschbag".

Whose dirty laundry is it? All I did was reply to the topic at hand. This "deuschbag" is the one instigating.

as the years go by, my "requirements" seem to keep changing.
perhaps im becoming more mature... maybe im just feeling like my standards have been too high in the past. thus my singleness -_-
but i feel like these days, this is my thought process with regard to what i look for:
a couple necessary things.. she must be christian and at least shorter than i am (im 5'10").
Other than those two there are some general things:
initially attractive. whether it be hot, cute, pretty, whatever it is that makes me look twice. although sometimes personality may be the attractive factor, physical looks are what we all see first (literally).
then if she is real (whatever that means. not phony i guess) and someone who seems like i can enjoy being with. then its all go from there!
i think ive lost the need for a whole list of "qualifications". its more of a "click factor" as one of my friends put it. then its just further assessment from there. happy.gif

pretty long post haha.

Even though I already have the girl of my dreams.

They'd have to be someone I could call my bestfriend.
