I think scenesters are those who are obsessed with whatever the current trend is. Like right now, dinosaurs and black hair and stuff like that. Eh, I don't really mind it. Unless they try to shove it in your face and say things like "SCENEXCORE". Thats just annoying.
But whats up with the tight pants thing? That is the creepiest part. They are like REALLY REALLY REALLY TIGHT |

scenesters - [ noun ] -- pathetic child who cannot find acceptance in any other " highschool click " ; resorts to what the Featured Content of Xanga.Com with the 7 X's in the screen name likes and goes from there ; one who tells people that their [[ as in not their own ]] music is : " poser-ish " , " unXcore " , or one of my personal favourites " non-emo " . see also " people who are ruining good music like Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd by making themself seem cool by wearing the Dark Side of the Moon t-shirts 3 sizes too small and pants that are too small for their little sister " , or see " one who bitches about own life that is perfectly well and attempts to play with make-up , only to result in *utter disaster "
* - this , kiddos , is not the kind of utter disaster that should be veiwed upon as " Kewl " or anything , rather hideously ugly ... as like the preps you so make fun of . --- yeah ... i'm not into the scenseters ... they really fcuked up music and style ... set our teenage society back a few years ... NOW QUIT WITH THE DAMN DINOSAURS FOR PETES SAKE IF THE KID BEFORE YOU DIDNT LIKE EM YOU WOULDNT EITHER ... boys - girls clothes and make-up are meant for girls . hands off . girls - make-up is not supposed to be caked on . layers are layers , not about 7,000 shirts you cut up or skirts over your jeans . --- wow ... that was fun ... |

I think they're something similar to a poseur. They act or make themselves like a certain genre of music and try and fit in with the people who actually do like it. Just try and go along with the current trend, which happens to be "emo" and "hardcore" or whatever right now.

I don't mind them or any kind of poseur as long as they don't mouth off acting like they know what they're talking about. 10 bucks I know more about their scene than them. Damn post-indie rock bands.

Scenesters scene, scene kids are people that follow the latest cool thing to be. At the moment the scene is emo. You can tell a scenester from an emo kid from how they dress and how they talk
Girls Fashion:- Tight Pants Cheap Pumps Dyed Black hair cut straight across the eye brow Footless tights 3 belts Boys Fashion:- Tight (girl) Pants All black converse Dyed black hair swept across the face(sometimes with a blonde streak) 3 belts About 90% of these scenesters like little kid things. i.e. Disney Movies, Dinosaurs, Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, etc. etc. Most pictures you see of these scenester kids, they're making kissy faces or they have a peace sign up to their face with some odd, unusual facial expression. Most scenesters are straight edge. Some scenesters wear exotic make-up, not all, but some. Most of them write <3 or some weird lyric from a song or band name on Converse shoes with a permanent marker. Most like to give high fives to each other when they agree. The term "Scene" usually deals with Hardcore/Fashioncore kids. Guys and Girls who are usually (almost ALWAYS) Egotistic, Self-Centered, Narcissistic. Loves taking pictures of themselves. The pictures usually consist of the scene he/she throwing a peace sign and making a sassy facial expression. The scene he/she with big glasses. The scene he/she with their hand almost covering their mouth and the eyes to the side as if they were saying "uh oh". Finally, the scene he/she with his or her crew. Many pictures are photoshopped to make them look as "Sex" as can be. They spend hours on their myspace making it look as trendy as possible. Talk to people they will never meet for hours on end. These kids are cocky. They will tell you they think they're ugly and show you the 1,000 pictures proving it. They are better then you according to them. They love to "bring the hang out" with all of their scene friends. Many will call themselves straight edge yet share nude pictures and drink because "they are sad". Scene kids make fun of others who aren't like them. Many scene kids think they are non-conformist, although you take a look through myspace and you'll see a million others just like them. They quote movie lines over and over showing the lack of originality they actually have. They LOVE using slang and talking like a "thug". Scene kids also love to write notes to others and take pictures of themselves with the note in hand. The Vegan scenesters are usually vegans because it's "cool" not because they have a love for animals. They love throwing their sassy ass into the pit and giving everyone a taste of their hardcore dance. I've seen many kids at shows watch the "Hardcore pit" and not the band. I could honestly go on for a while but I'm sick of thinking about it. -Urban Dictionary So pretty much all of that.... |

Scenesters is just like the name suggests.
They can camouflage themselves in society. IE: If the current 'in' scene is punk, they could be seen dressed up punk. After about a week, if the scene changes to gothic, they can be seen dressed as goths. They basically change with the scene. |

As of now, there is no real reason to yell out to the world that you are "straight edge." It only serves as pretencious social filing. There is just no practical reason to be doing such today. It only works as an elitist call.
The straight edge movement died a long time (Before either of us were even born) ago with Minor Threat. MacKaye knew it was all about personal choice, not ideology. Today it is increasingly meaningless and obscured. You can make personal choices without writing X's on the back of your hands and wearing camo. You are abstinent, we understand that. There is already a word for that. When you try to make it something it's not, you just become pretencious, arrogant, and elitist. It's just not attractive. Just so you know; I've never done any of that stuff. That's my own personal philosophy. Welcome to hardline! Boston Beatdown Vol. 2! |

At shows that served alcohol, they would put a black X on your hand if you were a minor and could not partake of the bar. The people who didn't want to be a part of the drinking and stupid violence that followed, regardless of their age, started marking the back of their hands with an X before they even got to the show. These were the real Straight-edgers. They abstained from this, not to be cool, but out of true distaste for the sex and drug culture of the time. They often had to deal with ill response to their choice, something I'm sure you've never gotten before you met me and Acid Bath Slayer. Real Straight-edge ended a long time before I was even born.
You're elitist, and scene as hell. That's a bad thing. Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. Welcome to the hardline! BOSTON BEATDOWN VOL. 3: Back for non-affiliated members of the scene's blood!!! |

Are you kidding me? She's not a "real" straight-edge person because she doesn't use the right freaking symbol? Why the hell do you need a symbol to tell you what "group" you belong to? Why can't you just do your own thing? I don't do drugs, I don't drink, and I'm a virgin, but I don't need a symbol to tell me that, nor do I need a symbol to tell others that. Anyone who knows me knows I don't do that stuff. |

Sammi, I think its more of a "I'm straightedge so stop f**king offering me drinks" thing.
Some people do it for the scene, but I could imagine Kathleen is the type who'd say she's straightedge so that she doesn't have to state every little thing she doesn't believe in doing. "Hey, want a drink?" "No, thats okay" "Want a smoke?" "No, thats okay" "Want a --" "I'M STRAIGHTEDGE DAMMIT" "Oh, okay. Bye." |

Is there an emoticon for vomiting on these boards? I could really use one right now.
![]() I've got a bedtime story for all the scenester boys and girls. It's called your ideas are pithy, and yet unoriginal. The story begins in a scenester's basement. Scenester A says, "Oh, let's take a dead guy's personal preferences and make an ideology out of it!" Scenester B says in reply, "Okay! Sounds grand! While we're at that, let's all do it the same way and be violent about it!" Scenester C (Who am I kidding you're all the same) says, "Ravishing good idea!" Non scenester comes up and says, "Can I play too?" Scenester blob replys, "Nay, you're much too fat, and you don't have your hair all flopped in your face like the lot of us" Non scenester replys, "But I can change!" Scenester blob now transforms into scenester laser and blasts proton beams at non scenester, saying, "WE SAID NO! You're not cool enough! And since you came later than the rest of us, you will never be as cool as us!" Intelligent person A points out the fact that being elitist about a dead subculture and making an ideology about it is stupid. Scenester laser blows up Intelligent person A. Moral of the story is, you're unoriginal. The whole scene thing is unoriginal. Being part of an unoriginal ideology is unoriginal. Go do your homework, and then go to sleep. If you're not going to do that, at least know a little about where your "scene" heritage is, for cripes sake. |

The scene kids that I know all:
cant decide on a haircolor look like a 4 year old cut their hair think it's flattering to wear sunglasses that are as big as their head safety pin their pants so that they are "tight" (which makes me sick, because they, and every other kid who think's they're punk rock because they have green hair and a leather jacket, used to talk shit on me for wearing tight pants) think dinosaurs and robots are 'teh sex!11' type things like 'kthxbye' 'sup fill in the blank?' 'im a dino raaaawr' are overweight and wear clothes that are skintight think they're cool because they went to a local show totally killed our local scene think they're tough/hot/skinny/betterthaneveryoneelse are rude and stuck up because it makes them feel better about themselves think they are SO original think they're straight edge (but smoke weed) have never even heard of Minor Threat Think hardcore bands are Killswitch Engage, Hawthorne Heights, Senses Fail, etc. Just kidding, real scene kids only listen to music that nobody else has heard of Oh, and in regards to the straight edge discussion that's going on, whenever I see a kid at school (who looks like they could be in the 6th grade) with Xs drawn on their hands, I 'offer' them a cigarette, or ask them where the show was at. The reactions are often priceless. |

This place absolutely reeks of teen angst.
As for scenesters, I've always looked at them as people who are down with the music scene--or like to think they are, anyway. They typically go to shows, follow the latest "anti-trends", and often try to highlight their "geekiness" and/or social awkwardness. Alright, I guess that was a bit of a biased opinion. I mean, there are some okay scenesters, but I think, for the most part, they are people who are following a trend--or, as I noted, an anti-trend. Does that make them bad? Does that make them sheep? No to the first question; sort of to the second. I guess I'll try to be one of the few who hasn't totally busted on the poor scenesters and try to defend them a bit. Most scenesters are middle school or high school students. Middle- and high school students are all trying to fit in somewhere; there are very few who are content to be anti-social and live on the fringe of their peers' society. Some try to fit in with the high-class "preppy" kids (for lack of a better term), some with the athletes, some with the drug users. There are a lot of kids who are marginalized in the society of middle- and high school, kids who don't really have a place--not a fun position to be in. So it seems that a lot of them have found idols to follow in punk- and alternative-rock bands, have found ways to highlight their nerdiness or bookishness or intelligence, and more importantly, have found others who are like them. Unfortunately, over time, they have developed a certain elitism about themselves, just as the "preps" or the athletes have a certain elitism, too. As far as the straight edge discussion goes, I am neither for nor against it. Yes, I guess today's straight edge is a bastardization of Ian McKaye's vision (and let's remember than McKaye never intended for it to become a large movement, or even a movement at all), but I don't think it's all bad. It takes a lot of guts, especially in middle- and high school, to take a stand and say, "I'm not going to drink, or smoke, or do drugs, or engage in promiscuous sexual activities," and I applaud anyone who does that, even if they have to apply a label to themselves to do it. Sure, I guess it would be better if someone could just take those stands and not have to advertise it (because, let's be honest, in high school, even I got sick of whiny teenagers saying, "I'm straight edge, I don't drink or smoke or f**k") but hey, if you're going to call yourself straight edge--and really adhere to the straight edge values--more power to you. |

I agree with you mipadi, and I just have one thing left to say, and I'll leave this alone.
In order to adhere to the values of something, you should know the history of that something that you're basing your values off of. I don't care if you're scene as shit as long as you at least know what you're talking about. That does even go down to the abbreviations for things. I'm done. Thank you for your time. |
