I think one of the greatest games, more like a series was the roller coaster tycoon games. There so addicting and you can control so many aspects of a theme park.

? Are you serious?

Metal Gear,
Final Fantasy
Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter
Pac-man
Pong
Those were all huge games that changed the market.

But best game? Final Fantasy Series.

This is a really tough call, because I've enjoyed playing a lot of games. I don't play games much anymore, except for the "legacy" systems I have, but I still get a thrill out of some of those old games. I don't know if I can list just one, but I can list several in a rough order, starting with what I find to be the greatest.
  1. Civilization II. Honestly, I have probably logged more hours on this game than any other. It's a perfect military/sociological/political simulation. No game is ever the same, and that's what is so awesome about it.
  2. Perfect Dark. By far, my favorite of the first-person shooters, and another game I have played entirely too much. A perfect blend of action and science fiction--and it even has a great storyline to boot.
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's a Zelda game, and probably the best. 'Nough said.
  4. GoldenEye. No videgame list is complete without this one, although I don't find the replay value as good as Perfect Dark. But that's just me. My friends and I used to play this hardcore eight years ago, and we still pull it out. (Side note: I used to be a legend at this game in my town. My friend, who goes to the same college as I do, still introduces me as "the guy who used to always kick my ass in GoldenEye every Friday night.")
  5. Super Marioworld. I spent a lot of time playing this growing up. A legacy of the side-scrolling Mario games; I think the Mario games hit a peak with this one, although Super Mario 64 was also a damn good game.
  6. MarioKart 64. The epitome of the MarioKart series. I'll never forget playing this with my bro growing up. Super MarioKart was one of the first games we bought for SNES, and it was the first I got for N64. He and I had a lot of good times playing MarioKart 64.

I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything but..

TETRIS -- now that is one awesome game. :] That soo revolutionized puzzle games. :D Or maybe I'm just a tetris fanboy.
Ooh and Lumines for PSP. <333

Super Mario World - That is ONE AWESOME GAME! I suck at it but it's so fun to watch my bf play haha. He's all pro (grr!) at it. I love Mario happy.gif

well, the two games i had the most fun and put the most focus and time in was

shenmue: one of the first real free roaming games, but this one has depth, gorgeous graphics (especially for dreamcast) jeez just talking about it makes me want to play it right now. its that good. i mean getting jobs, training in dojos or just open parks, finding out things about your fathers murder, going to the store just to simply buy some chips, and get a lottery ticket while your there, having a conversation with anyone, playing a playstation in your house, talking to your grandma as she cleans the house(and not a dumb ass convo), having your friends come over, trying to earn money from jobs and getting some from your brother to try to get enough to go to hong kong, getting confronted by gangs and mafias, even cheering up your girlfriend. i can play this game over and over ah, shenmue, heres what it looks like just walking(running in this case) throught the city for example

Kingdom hearts: one of the best games ive played, one of the games that challenged me the most, awsome story, just an awsome game. i can also play it over and over.

mario 64: must i say more? mario 64 has fricken touched all of us lol. i mean, the memories haha.

spyro the dragon: it may not be the best, but for me, when i was younger, this game was huge. i have so many memories from it. very fun game for me back then. very creative.

honorable mentions:

prince of persia 1 and 2:the action is the best of all rpg games, awsome acrobatics, and fighting. just didnt get me as into it as i was KH and shenmue. but i was into it, just not as much.

Half life 2: best fps i think hands down. but i dont think anyone gets as into fps's as much as rpg's. they're just too short and dont take as much thinking.

goldeneye: the fricken memories are endless man, never beat it though lol
the best memories come from multiplayer with my friends.

i never got into final fantasy games much, i mean i love the stories, but the way they fight just turns me off. i think thats why i love kingdom hearts so much, its final fantasy like storyline with free form fighting. i think if they could somehow encorporate free form fighting into final fantasy games it'd be the perfect game (at least for me haha)
thats it i guess. all the games that i actually took alot of time to play. had the most fun with, and got pissed if i forgot to save like once haha. therefore those are my opinions of the best games ive ever played.

Perfect Dark, a very fun game...too bad Rare was bought my Microsoft. Now it will come out for XBOX360 instead of the GameCube. BOO!!

Anywho, I'd hate to say it, but one of the funnest games I've played was GTA3....

Metal Gear Series - Just wow, this is one of those games that you see and it leaves your mouth dropping. Near perfect graphics, storyline and gameplay. I also like all the sneaking around since I believe MG is the first game to release an alternative to walking around and shooting people. Your goal is to sneak around without being seen. The CGs in the game are also breath-taking, and yeah like I said before, just wow...

Street Fighter Series - These are another one of those game series that everyone will be hearing about for a while. One of the first successful fighting games made.

Command and Conquer Series
- I like realtime warfare so I tend to lean towards Westwood's Command and Conquer rather than Blizzards Starcraft. There's probably another game more real than C&C, but I haven't bothered to research about it.

I would put Final Fantasy since it's my second favorite in this list. Reason I haven't is because none of them have to do with each other. They are all different storylines, but basically the same plot with different characters. I don't know why I bother playing it since that's the case, but I don't know I enjoy it.

Final Fantasy: I loved the aeons and everything else! I was really glad when the movie came out for FFVII. My favorites are VII, VI, X, X-2. I never got around to playing XI.. Hopefully I'll be buying the XII.

Kingdom Hearts: This is my favorite overall! I loved Disney as a child and they made it even better. Sora is a really fun character a long with his helpers Donald and Goofy, I never really liked them, but they fought awesomely wonderful. This is one of the best roleplaying games ever. I'm glad KHII is coming out.

Dance Dance Revolution: Although I'm only good in Heavy. The music really gets me into the mood and reminds me what beat and where to step, however the pads can be a bitch at times.

Metal Gear Series - Eddie[xnofearx] pretty much explained how good this game was. the espionage and spy tactics and every little detail make this series definitely one of the best.

Kingdom Hearts - First seeing this game with the disney characters and all, i thought this was gonna be gay but it turned out to be one of the best games I ever played. I love how the battles don't use that sequence where u wait ur turn to attack.

i'll put more later

What 2 player RPG's?

FF Crystal Chronicals wasn't all that good from what I heard, I heard it was terrible.

Ok, this topic would be sort of similar to a "holy Grails" topic. As in, the best of the best.

Alot of you are forgetting the important important ones.

Pong - Started Gaming as we know it
Space Invaders- Advancement in Gaming, Circa 1970
Pac-Man-Ms. Pacman was a women's right symbol and the original was one of the most loved games of all time.
Tetris- Practically Invented Puzzle Games
Computer Space- The 2nd game that was invented, advancement really.
Yar's Revenge - this and Raiders were favortie gems of the gaming Atari Era
Old school raiders of the lost ark
Mario- Made nintendo what it is
Mortal kombat - One of the games that use digitized actors and with realistic blood and gore. Also known for as one of the games that led to the founding of the ESRB. Also one of the fighting games that didn't require Street Fighter and other fighting games counterclock wise tactic.
Street Fighter- Gave fighting games a revolutionary fighting system, consisting of 6 buttons, randing from strong to weak. Also made special moves easier with it's turn counter clockwise punch button tactic. Also coined the term, "Hadoken!"
Zelda-Adventure games have to call this one the Mac daddy, as this started it all.
Pokemon - Started a global worldwide trend that is still popular today.
Final Fantasy- Revolutionized RPG's, as people use this as a benchmark when making theirs. Popularized the PS1 into what it was.
Metal Gear- This game started the Stealth genre. And was one of the PS1's greatest hits, with it's beautfiul graphics and the awesome cutscenes it would make.
Mega Man-Another Mario style game, with a twist, more then just jumping on top of people and collecting coins.
Doom-Shareware game that went beyond everyones expectations. Started the big trend in FPS, wolfenstein might have started it, but this carried it.
Wolfenstein 3d-First FPS game.
Quake- This and unreal were advancements in the unrealistic FPS genre. Where games were fastpaced and all about destruction.
Unreal Tournament
Starcraft- Widly popular RTS game that people still play today.
Warcraft-The granddaddy of the blizzard RTS games.
Civilization-Started the entire genre.
Age of Empires- Was another RTS that ganied popularity. Immensely popular.
Warhammer- Same as AOE
Sim Series- Just like AOE, except instead of killing everything, people would build cities and communities.
Diablo-Created a huge fanbase for RPG gamers, Multiplayer was a huge suceess. PVP and PVE were popular during this time.
Liniage- Awesome RPG that also helped with the Multiplayer trend.
Everquest- This is the one game that boosted more then Diablo and Liniage combined. Console /food would bring up Pizza hut.
Asherons Call-Just like Everquest.
Half-life and the Half life Family. Created a game where realism was superb at the time, and told story as it went along. no cutscenes, no crap. And Counter-strike is the most popular MMOFPS game today. It creates more niternet traffic then the entire country of Italy.
Command and Conquer-See Starcraft.
GTA 3 and up.-Realism is the only word to describe it. You could do endless thing, just like in real life.
Heratic- This and Hexen were off the Doom engine, but still loved by everyong.
Hexen
Phantastigmata or whatever the hell it's called. That Sierra horror game with 7 disks.- Helped the Horror Genre with it's adult themes, which included murder, drugs, rape, and blood.
Phantasy Star--Came out for the flopped 32x Master System, but regarded along with FF as the starter of Rpg's.
Virtua Fighter-First Fighting game to have a 3d look and feel.
Dragon Quest-Along with FF, but came later.
Mike Tyson Punch Out-Fighitng game that helped the Nintendo. More of a comic releif game, but did start the Boxing trend.
Madden-Origins date as way far back as the sega genesis or the 32x.
Tecmo Bowl-Arcade football game that probably made what madden and football games what they are today.
Metroid-Wow, like megaman and mario with a twist. Remember, at the end of the game. what happened when Samus took his/her suit off?
Power Stone-Fighting game with interactive enviroments.
Sonic the Hedgehog-Segas answer to Mario, would make lots of money, but also had it's flops too. Cough Sega Racing Cough.
Croc- Like mario, and games such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, were playstations answer to Mario.
Halo-Revolutionary AI and gameplay made this the xbox popular as anything.
Soul Edge and Caliber-One of the first sucessful fighting games that used weapons, in the gameplay.
Elder Scrolls-Crazy ass MMORPG. This game is freakin Huge. I would love to see somene beat this in a week.
WoW-MMORPG that is popular as anythng right now.
Resident Evil-This was the first horror game that integrated so much shooting and action.
Silent Hill-More story and puzzle wise, but still gruesome as anything.
Clock Tower-This was definitley the more gruesome of th bunch,. Espeically the 3rd one.
House of the Dead-This and Time Crisis and Area 51 gave people reasons to go the arcade.
Area 51
Time Crisis
DDR-This and Beatmania gave an excuse fot gamers. ("Mom, I AM exercising!")
Beatmania
Final Fight-Wow, where would the beat em up gaming trend be without this?
Gauntlet-Multiplayer, all about the multiplayer.
EarthWorm Jim-Gave realism to the original SNES game. Shoot a mountain of snow, it will fall down. Etc.
Spy Hunter - Original-Another favorite of games.

There is alot more, and I can't think of anymore on top of my head. Which i did for these, I just looked around the room and started naming all the classic and good games I knew. I will post others later.

Tetris, DDR (any mix), PiU (any mix), Beatmania (any mix), Para Para Paradise (any mix), Pop'n'Music, and Steel Battalion.

These games defeat all other games. MMORPGs waste your life, FPS's are all the same, and the state of gaming as it stands is sad. The only people still being innovative are Nintendo and Bemani. Sad sad sad.

STARCRAFT! everyone played starcraft once in there life. I remeber in 5th grade I used to stay up to like 11 playing with my friends. Starcraft and battle.net got all popular and Blizzard started making more games, most SC players have also played Warcraft and Diablo.

SSB every asian party i go to, this game is on (melee). It's just fun to have 4 characters from different games beating the crap out of each other. Then Melee came out and it got even better =D.

The Final Fantasy Series. Though... they're starting to get too "slow" for me with the ATB and CTB and whatever battle systems in which you have to take turns... I'm getting more into the fast paced shooter games.

But I can still say Final Fantasy VII was one of the best games I ever played. I played that game for over 90 hours. Jeez. blink.gif

And The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a great game too. One of the best ever made in history. ...I never got done beating it though... I'm thinking of going back and hitting it up on the old Nintendo 64 someday... happy.gif

Super Smash Bros. Series - Can I begin to count how many hours I spent on this game. My friend and I became our high school's champion at this game because of all the hours we spend playing. Him using Pikachu and I using Kirby, using out patented (not really) Cross X Combo, was like, WHOOO! We verse each other one on one many times, pretty much he wins some I win some.

I get most people with Kirby by using Psychology on them. They think I'm a noob for picking Kirby, because he can take other's powers. But little do they know that I never use that technique. I work with Kirby's Smash attacks because they are quick and powerful.

Super Mario Bros. and Final Fantasy (1).

Why SMB? Because it singlehandedly saved gaming.

Why FF1? Because it singlehandedly saved Square.

Oh, and the greatest fighting game of all time, Killer Instinct.

Wow! That's a good question... But I'd have to say that the best game ever made was The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, without a doubt. Final Fantasy is second biggrin.gif

Super Mario Bros.!

I can play that game today and still have fun. It was the greatest game of its time and introduced a new platform!
