total layout newbie, can't get layout to stick |

i'm following the directions on this blog about copying pasting and stuff in order to get layout on my page but something isnt't jiving once i hit submit in about me. there's a disclaimer that i might need to reset my blog settings but i haven't a clue how to do that. basically i'm completely helpless, so please help.
