well, gosh.. if the guy wants you to be his girlfriend, he should just say it; don't beat around the bush...
plus, "will you go out with me?" .... that sounds like he just wants to "go out" for that one time, imho... :\

That's weird, cuz i never liked when guys said, "Will you be my girlfriend?"
I liked it if they said, "will you be my girl?" that's cuter...i don't know why i'm weird.
But i like it the best when it just comes out in conversation like....
"So...there is this game saturday night...and....i was wondering if you would like to go with me?"
you know, that kinda thing?

"Will you go out with me?" Seems more like you're asking her on a date; not really you two exclusively together and such.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Leaves no room for confusion on what you're asking; it's clear that you'd like her to be your girlfriend.

So if you would like a girl to be your girlfriend, I'd say ask "Will you be my girlfriend?" instead. If you're looking more for less attachment and labels and more for just dating, then ask, "Will you go out with me?"

"Will you be my girlfriend?" seems better/cuter than "Will you go out with me?". Whenever a guy asks me "Will you go out with me?" I respond saying "Depends. Where and what time?" cuz for some reason, that response confuses them. The boys I know are used to the typical "Will you go out with me?" and then automatically assume you're their girlfriend without really making it "official". But I dunno...that's just how I see it.

"Will you go out with me?" is a tad ambiguous. It could mean both 'be my girlfriend' and 'physically go on a date'. Had an uncomfortable situation with this phrase.

I'd prefer "Will you be my girlfriend?" It's cuter and more specific.

I like "Will you be my girlfriend?" better cause "Will you go out with me?" seems sort of like... oh let's go on a date but that doesn't really mean we're girlfriend and boyfriend. And then if you put like "Bob<3" or something like that in your profile and you're not really boyfriend/girlfriend, it's embarassing.

Well. I have no preference.
If I have the "can you be my girlfriend" one, that might be too sudden and I might not know how to react.
If I have the "can you go out with me" one, then my mind would start to wander, thinking whether it's just a date or wants me to be the gf.

i think i know why people like the "will you be my girlfriend" one better.

the emphasis is on girlfriend. will you be my girlfriend.
so it's refering to the girl as the emphasis and it make her feel specialer.

for will you go out with me, the emphasis is on the me. will you go out with me.
this way sounds more self centered, more about the guy.

and it wil just come out naturallly

It depends wouldn't it? mellow.gif

If you'd want to be the guy's girlfriend, then you'd want to be asked: "Will you be my girlfriend?".

If you want to go on a few dates first to get to know the guy better, then you'd want to be asked: "Will you go out with me?".

That's my opinion anyways..biggrin.gif

Well you can ask both can't you? Cuz that's what my ex did...

First he asked me out and I said yes. We went out for about 3 weeks before he asked me to be his girlfriend.

When you ask her if she wants to go out with you, it usually means that you're just asking her out and to hang with you, not necessarily to be your gf.

However, after you guys went out for a while, you can pop the question of asking her to be your gf.

...or if you want to be direct, just ask her straight out.

A 20 year old guy's perspective on this.

Sounds like either middle school or high school talk right there...very juvenile and inexperienced.

I suppose we all have to start somewhere, right? ^______^.

You should have put an option on the poll for "none of the above" because that's not how I've asked my dates. In fact I didn't start dating until I was 17.

I never asked that question because I could simply tell by the way the girl was acting if she was into me that way or not...to use as a hook-up tool, or a serious relationship material.

But if I should ask someone I would ask her "are you as serious about this as I am?"

Ironically I never even asked that either because we both knew what we needed.

I like the second one better because it's no official. I agree, it's kind of like.. testing out the relationship. Plus, it's a more subtle way than the first. The first seems a little.. Bleh. Like "will you be my girlfriend?" like it's just a title. That's how I see it. Does that make any sense? =X

It depends on the situation. If we've only been dating for a while then "will you be my girlfriend?" sounds more appropiate. But if its the first time we're dating then "will you go out with me?" sounds better. I think dating should come before the girlfriend part. At least you know you're taking the relationship to a next level.

My bf and I became official 2day after i finished my last exam........
I did wonder how he'd ask.
It turned out to be "will you go out with me?"....... eventhough I was hoping for "will you be my girlfriend?" oh well~ ^_^

I'd rather them say, "Will you go out with me?"
Seems less foward.
But depending on the moment, the tension, and all.
I migth accept the other way.

"will you go out with me." as long as he has confidence then i will probably fall for that, especially if he's sweet about it.

"hey beautiful let's go out. go out with me. please?"
throb.gif yeaaa i love it like that.

I think "Will you be my girlfriend?" sounds a lot cuter, 'cause it's nice knowing that someone wants you to be their girlfriend.

I prefer "Will you be my girlfriend" because if the guy asked "will you go out with me?" I'd be all "OH. WHERE TO?!"
So yah.

well, depends, because if you're "going out", it's kind of like just seeing each other, but you're not in a serious relationship as in boyfriend/girlfriend. that kind of thing, but that's just the way i see it.
so i would have a guy ask me out, if i like him, then yeah, i'd move to the next step. (boyfriend/girlfriend)

i uhh..dont really know...lols i voted for will you go out with me... _smile.gif that way i don't get all freaked out because the word "girlfriend" makes me think of "relationship" then.."commitment" hahaha...yeah i'm weird... wink.gif but to tell you the truth...i really don't like either of them... rolleyes.gif

I personally don't like the whole "Will you go out with me" approach. I find it to be very juvenile. My boyfriend asked me out by just telling me how he felt about me and we went from there. The question is often unneccesary in most sitatuions and it's better if you have a mutual understanding about your relationship and where it is going.

I wanna be your boyfriend
Sweet little girl
I wanna be your boyfriend
Do you love me babe?
What do you say?
Do you love me babe?
What can I say?
Because I wanna be your boyfriend

Yeah?! The Ramones! What?

ohhh that's a toughy...I prefer neither really...but I've never been in a relationship so I Really don't know. I think it woudl be nicer if it was kinda mutual thing becoming someones girlfriend/boyfriend..like instead of asking you kiss and then it's kinda obvious. I'm not saying you kiss instead of asking it's just you develope teh relationship and then you don't have to ask. Then once you are already in a relationship you can ask em out. Sept for me I'd HATE to be asked out, it's like my worst nightmare...I don't want my mom to know I'm dating! ermm.gif but if I said that then it woudl seem like I'm rejecting him. grrr. anyhow, good thing I don't have a bf hehe.gif

It's been years - but I'd have to go with "will you be my girlfriend" if I were to choose any of those. I remember the first time a guy asked me, "Will you go out with me?" I was such doofus. I asked, "where to?" And I was completely serious. pinch.gif Subsequently, I didn't date much in high school. ermm.gif

I think i'd prefer girlfriend if he MEANT girlfriend. It just makes it so much easier and specific. That way I don't need to worry about if he meant it as a "girlfriend" type thing.

^Not in my opinion. If someone chose that approach towards me, they'll get a nice, flat-out "no"

I would ask with "Will you be my girlfriend" because it gets to the point. If "Will you go out to me", for me, I think it could means go be just going out as a friend, or going on a date only ONCE.

same.

I really don't like being asked either but "will you go out with me" is better cause it gives me more time to decide wether I actually do want to be his girlfriend...also I think that to become ones girlfriend you shouldn't have to be asked, it should just happen when you get to know each other really well and you both like each other.

EDIT

oh wow, I already responded to this on exactly the same page. nice one leslie.

I would rather have someone ask "Would you like to be my girlfriend?"

although if he just wants to go out to a movie
then the other would be fine.
