well, as julia stated, tommorow is september 11th. so my question is, what was your 9/11 memory? by this, i mean, where were you when you found out? what else happened that day? here's mine:

i was in 4th grade. it was first period or something like that. they were starting to say the morning announcements, and then our principal was like "the twin towers have been knocked down". something along those lines. the whole day i was really confuzed, because i had no clue what the twin towers were. in social studies, my teacher turned on the tv and we just watched the news, the whole period. i remember a few kids at school crying that day too >.>. when i got home that day, i turned on the tv, and every single news channel had the story on it. me and my dad talked about it for awhile, and he explained what the twin towers were and such.

er- yeah. that was my 9/11. what was yours?

I was in fourth grade, too. My mom came out of the shower first, and then I came out second, so she knew about it first, but then she told me of this dream she had the night before about terrorists & such. It scared the heck out of me when she told me about 9/11.
I'll never forget the expression on my mom's face, much less everybody at school. '_'

I was at home in the morning, and my grandpa was watching it on television. He was like, "WAHH WHOAA Haha look at them go!" He couldn't undestand English, and probably didn't realize it was the News channel like I did, so yeah. I just thought it was one of those.. RealTV amazing stories shows.
Yeah, when I got to school, it really hit me on what happened when kids were talking about it.
On that same day, this first grader reported that there was a guy with a gun at our school. So our school had (it's first?) lockdown thing.. and all the children had to go into the cafeteria and the police was there.. and we were in the library, and the SWAT team or whatever came in with laser pointing guns and yeah. Rushed everyone to the cafeteria. Then after they couldn't find the man with the gun, they found out the girl was lying. It was so scary... and lame in the end. A lot parents came and took their kids home even before school ended.

I was in fifth grade coloring a name tag. Out fo nowhere the principal came and pulled out my teacher. Minutes later, my teacher came in and told us what happened. Of course, I didn't exactly understand what was going on at the time.

After school, my mom explained to me what had happened and turned on the t.v. I was so shocked. I felt as if it was a movie. I didn't understand why someone would do such a thing. Actually, I still don't understand why would somebody do that.

Sixth grade, first period band at school. Some people were crying, the teacher was startled. When my mom first found out she though, "Eh, no big deall..just a small hole in the building, right?"

I was in 8th grade. I remember we heard about it in Drama class and we turned on the TV and my drama teacher put her hands up to her face and started to cry. I didn't really know what was going on. I didn't even know what the world trade center was because I had just moved back to the united states after living in another country for 4 years.. yeah I was pretty much oblivious.

my dad was already driving my brother to school for his 6am practice, while i was still at home getting ready to leave. he heard on the radio when it happened and then called to tell me. at first i didn't believe him but theni turned on the news and saw for myself. at school we just watched the news a bit and talked about what happened and what it meant. no one i knew knew anyone in new york so it didn't have very much of an impact on me when it first happened.

7th grade. 1st period. it's 20 minutes into class. assistance principal comes in. gets the teacher over. he goes over to turn on the TV.

assistance principal says "the twin towers have been bombed. or, actually komikazied."

we were the only class that was allowed to watch it, because we were the 'smart class' and could 'handle it'

yea right.

while we were watching, the reports that the pentagon was bombed (didn't know it was a plane then) came.

of course we told the rest of the school, so by homeroom almost everyone knew.

teachers weren't allowed to turn on the TV, but in the office they had a TV on so every period we'd get reports of what was happening.

one teacher informed studnets that because of the army base, we had been right after new york and DC on the soviet nuclear strike list.

stupid 6th grades morph the story into 'they're going to bomb our school next'

and there were students freaking out...

like one kid's dad was supposed to be on a plane in new york

and then anther had an uncle in the pentagon. he was pulled out of the rubble a few days later.

I was in 8th grade and in my 3rd period computer class. My teacher told us that a plane hit the trade center and I got really scared because at the time, my dad worked at the chicago mercantile exchange building in downtown Chicago, but then I asked her and she said it was the Twin Towers in NYC. We turned on the TV and a few minutes later, the 2nd plane hit. In every class of mine, all we did was watch the news. I remember, it was a Tuesday because I go to my dad's house on Tuesday nights (my parents are divorced). My dad came to pick my sisters and I up at my mom's house and he told us that he was actually supposed to fly that day. In fact, he was supposed to be on one of the planes. He had decided to spend a few more hours where he was (don't remember) and rent a car and drive it home. I was so shocked and greatful that my dad was still there. We also found out later that my mom's cousin, who works at the Pentagon, was missing for a few days but he eventually turned up and was fine. That was one of the worst days of my life.

I was in the 6th grade in my homeroom teacher's class. It was early in the morning obviously and she cut on the radio. Every day since then she talked about it in class. Talking about see that's what they're trying to prove our weakness. Education. I was like wth. shut up and teach so i can go.

5th grade, at home, getting ready for school. I was putting on my socks, when I heard the guy from our radio station (U93), say wow...this is...wow, they keep playing the video over and over....wow....a plane just hit the twin towers.

I had no idea what was going on.

I went downstairs to take a drink, and my mom asked me what I was thinking about (I had my thinking face on), and I said "The guy from the radio just said a plane flew into a building, and that they keep playing it on the news over and over"

My mom told me to go upstairs right away. I didn't get how bad it was untill we got to school. We got into the classroom and the tv was on. after we watched it for a half an hour or so, our teacher turned it off, he said he refused to have us watch it anymore because all he saw was fear on our faces.

You know how they kept playing the planes crashing into the building oer and over? I never saw it, I still haven't seen it. I did see the firemen inside the building, with the video camera, and you could hear the bodies falling and splatering on the ground.... they sounded like comets. That was just......

After the shock of it wa sover, what sickened me was the fact that people took the pictures and edited them syaing "oh look the plane is coming!", or "look the devil is in the smoke!!" People are f**king morons like that. I hate this country. I'm moving to Canada when I'm out of college.

I was in 5th grade.
I was walking to school with a friend of mine and she was telling me that two planes crashed. I didn't really think it was that big of a deal.
Most of the day my teacher had the TV turned on and we were watching the news. It was a fun day because she didn't make us do any of the work.
Also when I got home my mom and uncle were really freaked out and wouldn't stop watching the news.
I didn't really understand and didn't think it was a big deal, like everyone else was making it seem.
But it was..

This kid named Trent, the year before,he went to our school, and then moved to New York. His dad worked at the twin towers, and he went there every morning, his dad and him. Brennan and I were really good friends with trent...neither of us know if he was in the building or not.

It is really sad what happened. I can't beleive, that so many people forgot. I even forgot about it, I don't think my parents remember... WE are celebrating mt little brothers bday tommorow (his bday is the 13th).

It was 5th grade and we were about to start math. Our teacher told us and I had no idea who/what/how big it was so me and the guy sitting next to me joked about it saying, "where were you this morning." Then we were listening to the radio a lot of the day. Lots of kids went home. One girl started crying because her family worked at the trade center in Dallas or something. Yeah.

I was in the fifth grade at the time.. but it didnt really affect me anyway - Im canadian. I just remember the PA system called for all the teachers to have an emergency meeting.. When my teacher came back he told us, although I didnt really understand at that age. I remember my friend crying because her mom was in New York city at the time; although nothing happened in the end.

grrr...why must we dwell on the past???

i was in 5th grade...in school. all of a sudden large amounts of students were getting called down to the main office for dismissal. one by one, we each started getting more suspicious. i wasn't one of the people that got called down...but me and my friends still knew that something wasn't right. i really wanted to know what happened but my teacher said that she wasn't allowed to tell us. so after waiting all day without knowing what was going on, i went home all worried. i remember walking into my parents' bedroom and my dad was laying on the bed. the tv was on and i looked and all i saw was a plane crashing into a skyscraper. i looked at my dad and his eyes were all red. my dad works in NYC. he had been in the WTC on the first floor checking out the stocks when he was saved by a police officer who told him to jump into a cab. luckily, my dad got out of NYC quickly and was able to take a bus home. what makes me sad is that the police officer that helped my dad get out ended up dying. im so thankful that my dad is safe and my uncle too who works in NYC and had to take the ferry home.

this is why i don't want to be reminded of 9/11.

I didn't really know what was going on, and when i got to school, they told us to go home.. so yeah. Then I started to realize what had happened, and I got really scared. So since school was cancelled, my dad wanted to take us out to eat lunch. T_T I was all shaking. I was scared to go, but I went anyway. =\

There's another topic on this...

But anyways, I was in 8th grade in Spanish class when my teacher asked if anyone had a parent or knew someone that worked in the World Trade Center. A girl did, but we were wondering why she said that, and then she said that the tower was hit. We weren't sure what that meant, but when we went to Science, our teacher had told us what happened. We were shocked, and spent the rest of the day listening to the radio. I still couldn't believe what had happened, but when I was walking home, I saw that people were in disbelief and the hospital near where I lived looked busy. Then, when I went home and turned on the television, and all the channels had the news... It seemed unreal but I saw it happen over and over again as it was replayed on the screen...

My boyfriend was a freshman at Stuyvesant, the school near the towers, and he told me his story about what happened, and how every one was so scared and all. They could feel the vibrations as the towers fell, and saw the planes hit the buildings...

I was 6th grade, I think. I still remember what happened that day. It was in the morning and my mom was listening to the radio. I was sleeping. My mom ran up the stairs and woke me up and said "OMG AMERICA'S BEING BOMBED!", and I was like "Yeah yeah, whatever, let me sleep." Until I woke up and actually saw the impact and hugeness of 9/11 did I realize how wrong I was. It was so surreal, watching these planes go offcourse and hit towers.

I disagree with PinkTrash, it affected me in a great way even though I'm not American. 9/11, like the tsunami a few months ago, tore people apart and in a peculiar way, brought us all together. The terrorist attack itself was not part of humanity's finest hour, but the sympathy that people gave out and with all the help the reached out with - that was truly a triumph of the human spirit.

It was weird. In the 6th grade I didn't really care about a lot of stuff. Nothing really affected me, but this did.

i was out in NJ, my grandma had westnile

i woke up to my grandpa blasting the TV really loud and it said a plane had just hit world trade center one and then like 20 minutes later a second plane had just hit. I repeat a second plane hit. me and my aunt were downstairs watching. i was worried about my mom because she was at the hospital which was just right across the river from the world trade center. she saw the smoke. she just missed the second plane hitting. we went there later and we could see smoke still coming from the site. my aunt broke down alot and so did mom. i didnt. i remember that night after it happened we didnt hear any planes going ahead because she lives close to Newark. It really scared me because i new something big was gonna change everyones lives. it was just really weird because no one was out at all and then a couple days later like at night we drove by the train station and there were a whole bunch of cars there. we knew those people were dead after that

It was around 11pm in Hong Kong when the incident happened.
So I didn't know about it until the next day.

Then the next couple of weeks, there were a lot of TV programmes about it.

I don't remember what exactly happened. I'm in Malaysia so I think we received the news sometime during the evenings. My neighbour called me saying America got bombed and whatever not.

When I switched on the television, it was all over the news. They were replaying the hit over and over again. It felt like somthing from a movie. You don't expect it to happen in real live, you know.

I was in 10th grade, in Honors World Cultures. About 9:15 a teacher came in and whispered something to my teacher, who turned on the TV, and we spent the rest of the class (until 9:40) watching the coverage. I then went to German, which didn't have cable, until 10:30, and then I went to math. It was then that I learned the towers had collapsed.

It was really surreal to me. The weekend before I had actually visited the World Trade Center, and had gone to the roof. I couldn't stop thinking about how they had been there, solidly, just a week ago, and now they were gone. I remembered so many little things about them, that it felt like losing a person, not a building. I also kept thinking about the elevator operators and ticket collectors I had met along the way, and wondered if they had been working that morning.

I was in 8th grade, in my science class, which overlooks the East River in Queens and has a good view of the towers. None of us saw the first plane hit, but we all saw the fire that ensued. Then, I caught a brief glimpse of the second plane going through the second tower.

All of us watched the towers come down, and we all saw the huge plumes of smoke and dust as they spread out all over the place.

In the few days afterward, the winds were blowing smoke and dust east towards Queens, so the air was really hazy and had a horrible smell to it.

That's pretty much my 9/11 memory.

I'm pretty sure 9/11 happened when I was in 4th grade, but I don't think I heard it from school I think I heard it from the news or something when I got home. And when I figured this out it was just horrible. So the next day in school we wrote letters to kids who lost their parents, but we were not aloud to ask what it was like since it might have brought them down.

Yeah that was my 9/11 memory.
RIP to those who died due to the 9/11 attack.

I remember it clearly. I was in 5th grade. It was a tuesday so I was in music class. Then, when we went back to our regular class, the teachers looked so sad and angry. All these kids were going home, and the teacher told us. Something happened, but we can't tell you what and she asked everyone in our class where are parents worked. Then, we usually had recess, but today we weren't aloud to go outside. So when I came home I saw the news and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Never forget 9-11.

I was in 7th grade. I was going to my second period class which was Reading. The teacher had the television on but no one knew what was going on. We kept watching until the principal told all the teachers to turn off the televisions because it was too graphic. I was worried the whole day because my father sometimes works in NYC. Fortunately, he wasn't there that day. A lot of parents came to pick up their kids. After school was over, I went to my friend's house and from her attic we could no longer see the towers and the sky was all polluted because of the smoke. It was a very sad day that I still remember like it was yesterday.

I was in middle school. None of the kids knew what "The World Trade Center" was...we knew them as "The Twin Towers" so a teacher asked us if we had parents who worked at The World Trade Center, and nobody understood except for a few kids whos parents did work there. When we were in class, we turned on the news and saw the towers on fire. Everyone was like, "Is that the twin towers?!" Some people didn't believe it and thought they were other buildings. I quickly recognized them. Nobody knew it was from terrorism. Then the principal made an announcement that all TVs must be turned off...because parents and friends worked there and it was upsetting a lot of students. They were really scared. My mom drove to school and picked me and my neighbor up early. We were all afraid what might happen and we didn't want to get stuck at the school.
I went home and my mom told me exactly what happened and I started crying. I cried so hard and I locked myself in the bathroom. I couldn't understand why people would do this. My friends father died that day. I never met him, but it was so sad...
The next day we wore red white and blue everything. Everyone in school did. Some people wore black. Everyone was so upset. We all cried in school...
That week was very quiet.

May all those souls that were lost rest in peace...

I was in 6th grade, and it was the end of the school day that I found out. All I remember is yelling at these idiots to shut up because they were yelling, "WORLD WAR THREE!! WORLD WAR THREE!!" and then I went on reading my book.

It never really affected me because all I could think is, "There are worse things going on in other parts of the world every day and we don't seem to notice them, so why should we notice this?" I never thought that was fair, but then again, life isn't fair.

yea but there are plenty of people out there who never thought it could happen in a most civilized country....but i totally agree with your statement

well.....here we go again ....i guess its best to talk about my experience on that day

i was in my freshman year during my Earth Science Class in 3rd period , i never knew what had really happened before 3rd what all the commotion and fuss was about during the hallways ..until my teacher told us about it and showed it in the proxima ....the thought of it never sinked me in ....af first i thought it was just an accidemt ...and so class resumed ..as hours and periods passed too ...i start to see classmates crying and leaving home early ....now i start hearing from my friends that a 2nd plane crashed ....and it still never sunk through me ...until after 5th period gym ...the principle announced of what had happened ...and if its best that we would be safe in school till it ends...she also assured of many of the students that have loved ones working in the city go seek a counselour for help and contact. my mind started sinking through the depths everyone i knew started to think of anyone they know who worked in the city . all my friends were annoyed cuz they wanted to go home ...one of them being one of my close was in joy when he was allowed to be dismissed from the counselour ....lucky for me during 8th and 9th or so one of my older cousins picked me up my sisters and 2 cousins and headed home ....when i came back home i went to the kitchen just seeing my parents and grandfather staring at the tv all day .....and during that time because of the TV ....i starteed to think differently about everything around me and in my life ......i slept ...hoping it was a dream next day .... being so close around the city ...i guess many new yorkers felt deeply affected but also felt a passion to keep on doing what there doing ...so class resumed the next day ....during that day ..many of my teachers gaver speeches....many of whom started to see tears running through there faces.....it hit hard for us ...because we are from new york and all...but yet ...noone ever swayed back on what there supposed to do ....i still cant believe teachers were still able to teach...

3 days after-school i asked my dad if we knew that my tita ella was alright ....she used to live in a apartment suite next to the world trade center...thats the apartment suite where Russel Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons used to reside (i was supposed to sing at a carol there but i was sick >.<). my dad said she was ok . my dad also told me he was supposed to get placed an interview in one of there business firms there during late july ...that suprised me ....3 hours later that night i went downstairs and hear my dad crying ...never heard him cry before ....we just found out that one of out close relatives "Hector Tamayo" is still found missing ....i felt bad because i know my distant cousins would have a hard time with that....out of all that....i was suprised i knew someone that died ...and i knew him ......just knowing someone that week....would make u cry ...after that i attened vigils and so on .....

alright so thats the end ....good bye for now

I remember...

I was in 5th grade, sitting in my math class..working on some worksheets? I don't quite remember. But...the announcement came on, saying that something tragic happened but the teachers weren't allowed to tell us exactly what had happened. I remember my friends telling me that some teachers cried...and I freaked out, because I really wanted to know what happened. Once I came home, I saw that the tv was on....and there were two burning buildings on the screen.

This makes me sadd.

I was in 4th grade, and I lived in New Jersey at the time.
I went to school, as usual.
Nobody knew what happened.
And we just go to school when it happened.
Throughout the day, nobody knew what happened.
Not even the principal.
And then when all of us got home, we were all happy.
And then my mom went up to me and told me to quickly come inside.
She explained to me what happened, and I didn't believe it easily.
And then she showed me to the television.
She flipped through every channel.
It had the same thing.
The planes crashing, twin towers burning, people dying, dust everywhere.
I just stared at it, and thought nothing.

Then when I came to school the next day, everyone was crying.
I showed no emotion.
It seemed like I didn't care.

Now every time I go to new York and see where the Twin Towers were, I just stare blankly at it.
I never knew that I would never get to go inside it.
I see nothing there at all.
And people walk pass by it and I look at their expressions.
No emotion.
And still I don't give any emotion at all.

i was in 5th grade. i was awoken by my dad, who was talking to my mom early in the morning. it must have been 6 or 7AM. my dad said something about new york city, that he was surprised or something like that. my mom rushed us to school, we have family in nyc so she must have been thinking about if they were okay or not. we got to school and i saw teachers, on the street, telling the people in the cars to go home, no school today. i was young and thought, "what's the big deal? how does something in nyc affect us?" i stayed home all day w/ my sister, and on practically every channel, was the news about the twin towers. i thought the whole thing was just crazy, why would anyone do this? we had a discussion when we went back to school the next day in class.

i still remember the day very clearly...it was just...so outrageous.

I was in class in 5th grade, and suddenly a teacher came in, and my teacher and her ran into the hall where they had a TV. A bunch of the teachers were watching there, but none would tell us what happened. One of the teachers were crying.

I remember being pretty excited because we didn't work for the rest of the day, but then I wasn't so happy when I found out what happened.

I remember I was in 7th grade. It was a beautiful day in central New Jersey... Sunny, warm, just gorgeous. I was gazing out the window in Geography class about the time the WTC's would have fallen.

But I didn't know that yet.

At lunch, there were rumors that the Twin Towers had collapsed or they had been attacked. Skeptical of our 12 year old companions, my friends and I denied the event.

In 8th period Communication Arts, my teacher told us she heard on the radio during her lunch break that the Twin Towers had collapsed some time that morning. We were all shocked. Maybe it was true.

Not even five minutes after my teacher had told us what she had heard, the principal came on the loud speaker, asking if anyone had parents working in NYC and, if so, they must report to the main office immediately. So it had happened.

I left school early that day because I was having my pendulum (a stupid dental appliance to push my molars back) inserted. At the orthodontist's office, a TV had been brought in and everyone was listening (while either being worked on or working on someone) to newcasters detailing the day's events. It was so unbelieveable.

My mouth hurt when I came home on 9/11, but, when I turned on the news, I felt no pain. 3,000 people, MY people, had died. There was a possible terrorist attack on MY country. Why should I feel any pain when so many other people were dying.

16 people from my town died, many were fathers of young children and pregnant wives. 36 children in my town were affected.

9/11 has inspired me to become a stronger person. It has inspired me to love my country with every part of my being. If has inspired me to become a better American.

Even now, when I plane passes overhead at night, I worry something like 9/11 will happen again. Then I pray for the souls that had died in vain, for the children without parents, and for the country as a whole to be stronger than it ever could be.

Rin-chan

ps- Part of me is still in shock that it actually happened. I have stood in the hole left behind by the WTC's, but I cannot understand how so many people had died in the spot I was standing in.
