The truth of the hurricane needs to be known. you hear how they are slowly getting better, no they are not, they need more help than ever. We call them refugees yet... they are usa citizens they deserve better. the truth of hurricane katrina is horrifcily terrible. For example, the super dome. Most would regret going in and would rther of stayed outside. It was horrible in there. gangs had taken over with their guns. young babies and children were being rapped by other men. its just so terrible. I had some friends who were down there, they are now back up here luckily and they told me about their experience. it was hard for him (my friend) to tell me about it. He explained he was staying in a house with his family. He explained thre was a storm, but the news said it wasnt going to be that bad. Until he saw roofs of house begin to shake. Thats when his family fled the house to the super dome. He told me of the chaos and massacre that had been caused. people were being trampled as they would walk, even on normal roads. The super dome once more wasnt any better.
Gun fire could be heard from anywhere. the ground was covered with trash, bodies, fescies, and urine. He began to wince as he continued. He told me of seeing a young girl being dragged into a storage closet. He stopped at that part, then continues later on. He told me that there were no law enforcements inside the dome, they wrere all alone as it began to flood. He told me of animals that would kill people to survive for themselves. this is the truth i heard from many different stories. tell me what have you heard?? If this is wrong topic sryyy u can move if u want, if this has been posted then... well... ya... for this topic dont just say "thats terrible" or something, please what else do you know? and have you helped them yet? have you donated anything? well this is my *mini* summary of whats going on. |

hmm.. i think the worst is over.. the hard part is gonna be in the next couple of months..
i watch the news alot and it seems like the people of lousianna are getting better.. i heard they are starting to make small communities and most have set up there addresses in the Astrodome.. the actual city of new orleans is bad because there is just some people that refuse to leave.. for example.. people on bourbon street.. the french quarter is fully intact and they just dont want to go.. it's there problem but they are son GOING TO CUT OFF THERE FOOD AND WATER.. which is pretty wild but it will work.. anyways.. thats all i have for now.. |

Wow. That just sounds terrible. I just wanted to say that some people there were pretty stubborn to stick around.. I'm not trying to sound shallow in any way though. I'm just saying, everybody heard the news of Katrina, something bad might happen, and yet they do not leave. :x
But my friend survived. Her family drove out to some other state before it hit which is good because I love her to death. XD I was hecka worried. So I guess she doesn't have any experience, but I hope her friends are okay too. |

i have a plan for future hurricane evacuations. but will anyone listen to me? no.
on the coast, stronge 'community centers' are built, they're dome shaped and all to resist the hurricane. they have bunk rooms (20 people per room) and stuff. there is a limit of 300 people per shelter, if you need more, build another shelter. and so, you can't get a mob mentality. now, as far was getting people evacuated: each town is assigned another town inland to handle the evacuees. during hurricane season these two towns of similar size work together, to integrate students and families. |

i feel so bad right now. i dont know what to say when i come up to this
-over 60% of the police resigned, some were lost, and others commited suicide i keep on watching it on the news and i think the aftereffects its worse everytime. at first it was just houses and like about 100 ppl, now theres entire cites and 1000s of familes. also, the animals, like dogs and everything who has dead owners and no where to live and most likely die, its horrible. theres soo much more going on, like what lightner said, i didnt even know about those conditions! however, im donation clothes and money to ppl in need but im also afraid because this will happen again and again. |

juss watching the people on tv and seeing how much they have to endure just to survive saddends me. there's some people that have not yet known what lies ahead of them... families are separted, and people are starving. this disaster made realize that i should appericate the things i have in life... family.... friends...clothes...food..and a place to call home..
its sad that this had to happen... |

Yeah I'm very very very sad to hear about it. And I want to do something about it. But... I'm poor. My mom have $1000 in her bank and that's all. And we live in an apartment, so she has to pay $1000 for the apartment. So after that, no money.
So I can't donate. I bet there are people who cares about it and wants to help, but can't cause they have nothing to give them. |

QUOTE >> Michael Moore's Letter to Bush Friday, September 2nd, 2005 Dear Mr. Bush: Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag. Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with? Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her! I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike? And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ! On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that. There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland. No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this! You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit. Yours, Michael Moore www.MichaelMoore.com P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st. > from Michael Moore's Letter to Bush No Comment! |

i think its horrible how gangs are taking advantage of the situation. it tells us alot of things. anyway
i dont understand why alot of people had no reaction to the tusnami in asia. is it because it did not happen in one of the most powerful nations on the country? or is it be cause it does not effect you? millions of children died, newly built towns and villages were completly destroyed. anyway it is horrible what happend in new orleans. and there are many many many causes to why there is not enough help being sent to them. most ofwich are bad reasons. such as almost the entire national guard being in iraq. idont know how the US will recover from this. |

What I have found most annoying is the ignorance of some people. They think that the people from Louisiana were lazy arses and just didn't want to get out... they don't realize that those people are SHIT POOR and have nothing! Probably not a form of transportation! and how do they expect to find buses, etc if there's going to be a freaking storm? B/c of it, the racism issue really has been in the spotlight.

alot might disagree with me [thats fine, it's just my opinion] but some people are blaming bush and i honestly dont think blaming bush entirely is right. i mean what about the states mayor? what the hell has he been doing?
an interview with a government person [not sure of the terminology, sry] [these arent the exact words but something like this] woman : we are so thankful for the help and support from other states and across america. reporter : that's great but what are you going to do now? woman : [...] thank you everyone! and what about the people complaining about food and water? we know the hurricane blew it all away and i'm terribly sorry but if they've been paying attention to the fricking news, it's been talking about how other hurricane attacked already and that one might be coming to them. so shouldn't they get prepared incase of something happening? maybe pack some water, or a flashlight? it isn't impossible or it is very possible that they will have a hurricane attack. so lets do the run down shall we? - they have been warned before hand time and time about a possible attack since some states around them have already suffered this situation. - they don't prepare for what seems to be a reason that a possible hurricane attack is psh paw. -then they went along to end up blaming bush cause he's the guy that screws everything up isnt it? sure why not but this time it's not his fault now is it. he just happens to piss the weather off and they punish him by sending a hurricane to attack?. right. - and now they think they have the right to complain because THEY weren't smart enough to plan ahead? ha ha. |

couple of months? more like years, or even decades for physical reconstruction
roads arnt meant to be soaked in water for such a long person of time, buildings will fall apart from erosion, the water is full of bacteria and decomposing bodies, also the soil on cemetaries is going to start washing away, burried bodies/bones will come out, once the water is gone there will be yucky mildew and crap everywhere, have to rebuild almost from scratch another thing, people who built the hospitals down there are stupid, people are complaining, "oh no, power is out and generators arnt working!", then why arnt the generators working? there in the flooded basement!!!!! you think they would put them higher up, at least 3rd floor |

QUOTE(mike666 @ Sep 16 2005, 3:58 PM) There is a predetermined table of names for each hurricane and tropical storm in a given season. I'm not sure who determines that table, though. The same might be done for typhoons, but I am not certain of this. |

Well i'm from LOUISIANA....and I have a first cousin whose family is living at my grandmother's next door right now. Also, my paran lived there and he's lost his job as of right now. He was in SEVERE danger of dying b/c no one was going to rescue his hospital staff....he had to say a few untrue things to get out of the hospital alive. Otherwise, they would have died w/o food or water. My cousin is now enrolled in a nearby school but she only speaks to her friends through emails....The news makes it sounds NICE over there...Its not! My paran told me first hand stories of watching people drown... He watched a father sink under water & just his hand above holding up a baby on a raft...the man's hand went limp & the baby was alone to float...a few minutes later, a wave flipped the baby over..& u can assume the rest! its so0o sad the things i've heard! they need prayer! We have a bunch of new students at my school from new orleans...they need so much!
