![]() It's anarchy there now. They had to stop medical evacuations because people were shooting at helicopters. I hope they declared martial law by now. Because if I was the governor, I'd lay the smack down on the people causing trouble. |

The people down there are going crazy, rather than helping each other out. For some reason, it's the government's fault. So they're taking it out on medical helicopters. They make me sick. |

I don't think martial law has been declared yet, since the civil forces are still in command and, aside from National Guardsmen, the military is not present. (The National Guard is not subject to the Posse Comitatus Act and therefore can act as law enforcement domestically, even when martial law has not been declared.)

It makes me think of the Kaiser Cheif's song " I predict a Riot".
Yeah New Orleans is basically in anarchy now. I read an article on Earthlink news that these volounteer chefs were going to make food and the National Guard chased them out saying, " You better get out of here or we'll shoot your brains out." It's really sad. You think people would come together and help each other in this time of need. |

No, in fact, I don't understand how people (caytexo) can compare the hurricane to 9/11 in the slightest. People were warned, people did not react like this to 9/11 and hurricanes and terrorists are obviously not the same thing

^Exactly!
I don't think people realize that more people are dying from this hurricane than the 9/11 attack...I get really frustrated when people say, " well we've been through worse, like 9/11, thousands of people died". Yes, I know that thousands of people died and terrible things happened, but there's absolutely no reason not to care about the hurricane as much as you did for the 9/11 attack. |

They're only shooting because they're desperate in New Orleans. |

the shooting helicoptors was a gang war, i think.
i think people don't realize that katrina's damage is probably going to top andrew's. the damage by hurricane andrew was more than 9/11. and it's a wide swath, not a localized destruction of comercial and government property. in 9/11, it wasn't massive residential areas destoryed. in katrina, you're talking people with no houses, no food, no water. and won't get them for a long time. |

Actually, the area is populated mostly by projects. If you didn't know, there is violence in the projects. The people there didn't want to get caught looting, so their first thought was to shoot down any authorities they saw.
