I've come to the conclusion that teachers work you like dogs during middle/high school so that you won't be lazy by the time you get to college. Except for the reading. Very intermittent written assignments but a butt-load of reading.

The reason: to prepare you for the world..
If you dont get it, don't complain to us, ask your teacher for help..I'm pretty sure, you're teacher would help you if you need help..
The reason why you get more work every year: so you learn more stuff..It's just how things are..You can't be expecting to learn the same amount you were learning in kindergarden..

Umm, just because.
It's good for you, I guess. Yeh'know, your teachers want you to go to good colleges, and have you do homework to gain more knowledge.
It's just what you have to deal with when you go to school.

depending on ur HW.. hw is giving for various reasons.

im a hs senior and we have like "long term hw" or u can say... or i mean when they assign u this or give u a calendar and u have a due date.. i think ITS SUPPOSE to help with PLANNING and all that stuff.. because if u procastinate to the last minute.. it makes it hard for you..

im taking Gov, AFJROTC 4, Tech Theatre, Human Geography AP, CISCO (Networking Technologies.. im so gonna be Certified by the end of the year...), and PreCal.

human geography, cisco and precal are probaly my hardest classes because they tell me "this is due on this day" and if i dont work on it earlier.. u will see me working my butt off some other day..

its teaching us lessons or something.. some day ill figure it out and learn it tho

Yes, yes, teachers are just out to suck up all your free time. wink.gif

Actually, I never saw the value of homework, either, until I hit college. But that's because college professors are too busy to assign busy work, so whatever they assign is almost definitely relevant to class. Plus, at that point, you're expected to learn largely on your own.

You're suppoed to learn.
That's why you're in school.
It is a lot, but it helps your future.
EVen if your furture will suck.
It helps along the way.
And at least it isn't for your WHOLE life.
After school, you get your own life.

We do get alot of homework.
I think each teacher thinks that only his/her subject matters and it's the only one, and I think they just wanna move on faster so that you can get more work done and get it overwith or something.
They just wanna move on from that assignment, so they can give you another one, and....

Or they just enjoy writing on the homework board greatly.

What grade are you in, punk_girl? Homework helps you to learn, and that's why you're in school in the first place. Some kids would love to have an education, but in some countries, they don't. so, consider yourself lucky, and just try your hardest.

Learning is all about mastering something and being profecient so you can use it in real life when the opportunity comes. And the easiest way to get students is to make practice madatory ie homework.

Believe me you will long for the days when you were forced to study... at college all professors expect more of thier students and some don't even give homework or don't make it mandatory.

If you take the time to think about it, incremental studying (aka homework) is the best way to learn something. You have to learn to push yourself befor it's too late. So even though it may be tough and mundane at first take time to see the interesting aspects of every subject. Every thing you learn ties into your life and seeing the connections and opening your eyes to the world is the whole point of education.

Homework is helpful in my opinion. In my classes we only get notes, we don't really put the notes into use.

The homework helps prepare for when your tested on it.

^ That's true but we don't like doing things over and over because it seems pointless. Usually I'll start my homework and then get sidetracked. I hate my Saxon Geometry class because every night we get homework and it's a grade from out of the book. Most of the time I will multitask like Suzzette said. Like I'm doing right now.

if you pay attention in class and actually do your homework and not breeze through it for the sake of getting it done, then you'll wont spend as much time later on studying for the test

also, now that im college, stuff you learn here will actually help out in real life, and the boring high school classes that i thought were a waste of time creates the foundation to the college courses

Homework's time consuming, but hey, it really does help. Well, as long as you have a good teacher. The only homework I'm really glad I have is AP Calculus homework (even though I did it last year--long story). It's helping me understand what I didn't understand last year lol.

Some work is just plain tedious, but get used to it. We all have to deal with it.

yeah homework is such a bitch sometimes. I'm already at the biology lab for like 15 hours a week and they still give us hardcore homework after that!! MAN!!

I just try to go to my teachers as much as possible and ask for help that way the faster and more I do the less homework I have to put up with when I get home.

My motto:

Study by day, party by night

You kids think you have it harddd?

I did 4 english essays tonight, a geography paper, a report and a chapter package. Tomorrow (or later today) I have a Lit test that I haven't exactly had time to study for. On Wednesday I have a math test on something that I really do not understand, on Thursday I have a geography test on three chapters, and on Friday I have a paper due in history.

We just got over a strike here and they're pushing the work on us like crazy.

I mean... it helps, sure. I don't mind doing it, I just wish we had more time.

It's frickin 3AM and I am doing my homework. I won't even be awake tomorrow in class. BLAHHHHHHHHH

I agree. An average school day for me would be getting home at 3:20 and doing homework solidely till 10:00. Sometimes only till 8:00 or 9:00 and othertimes till 12:00, but I'd average on 10:00. But I'm pretty slow...and I overwork, but who knows, maybe everyones slow, I donno. Today I have no homeowork though (only cause I worked way ahead on a teacher stirke here) so yay!

welll as much as it stinks, they're just preparing you for the challenge you are about to face once you get out of college/high school. I mean once you're an adult, you can only get 1 week worth of vacation (mininum) or more but you will still have to pay bills and crap. Then you have to work 98% of your time.... barely enough time to do anything else....

I've got study hall all winter, so I rarely have any homework left by the time I get home. If I do I can usually do it during biology.

See, at my school, we have a few really awesome teachers, and we have ones like my biology teacher that let me do my geometry every morning in class.

Homework is just something we all have to live with. I'm able to do mine rather quickly. I've always been able to work fast. So, I guess I'm pretty lucky.

but i just don't. i really can't be bothered..

i do my assignments and stuff though, but anything thats meaningless and has nothing to do with anything really important.. i dont do it.

..they give us work so that .. well i dont really know, so they know if what they teach you in class is getting across?? To prepare you for university.. something..

Ok, so first of all, I'm pretty sure you're exaggerating on how much homework you get. Pretty much the only barrier in doing homework is procrastination. Basically, if we didn't procrastinate, it wouldn't seem as if we have much homework, and therefore would not complain and whine all the time. Honestly, homework complainers get on my nerves. Just wait until you get into college or get a job.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I think HW helps exercize your brain, so you don't forget stuff and you get more sharp at it. It's more of an endurance practice (pages of the same thing) than learning new material.

Lots of homework? Actually, our school is known internationally for it's amount of homework and the extent that it pushes their students. All-nighters are completely normal, it's surprising if you don't need to pull any all-nighters in a quarter.

Homework is used [well for my school] to teach you to think critically, to look outside of the box. True, we might not always be tested on that certain material, but in the methods you use to gain understanding, that's how you learn.

I hate people who complain about homework. Just do it and stop whining. _dry.gif And if you dont get it ask a teacher. That's what they're there for
