Help Victims of Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina has blazed a trail of devastation throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Across the Gulf Coast, Katrina engulfed thousands of homes and decimated the landscape in what could become the most destructive storm in U.S. history. Victims are stranded and in need of immediate medical care, food and water, and tens of thousands of people will need temporary housing for months.

Help people affected by this storm by making a donation today.

God Bless America!
Best wishes to those who got affected by the Hurricane Katrina, and R.I.P. for the others who died, because of this Hurricane.

Donations

I have no money to donate.

I'm pretty sure Cosco would provide a huge glass box where everyone slide their money inside the slot.

1. those e-mail/post/collect signatures via internet are usually useless.
2., not a storm, but a category [5] HURRICANE. worst natural disaster in american history. [supposedly, it's too early to tell yet].
3., you can actually do something by donating your time, money, by going here.

[edit..woops, forgot the number, i'm slow today. meh]

Once again I have to remind cB members to be extra wary in times like these:

"Just to be cautious, everyone should really notice who they're donating to, especially on the internet. Providing your CC number and address/phone on WWW to nameless sites can be devastating to your accounts. Fraud isn't news these days and people will stoop low enough to steal your good-hearted intent even with so many suffering. Please, please know, and better yet, trust who you are giving such sensitive information to."

I am NOT saying that you should not donate over the internet, I am saying DO NOT donate if you're unsure of the organization you're giving your information to. It's a shame, but there are people would tries to take money away from those who desperately need it.

AND A NOTICE: If anyone knows someone from Louisiana or from the states that were affected by Katrina who's in Houston, let them know that they can come to ANY Houston area YMCA to use the facilities freely during business hours.

i wouldn't worry about that; atlanta got it 2 days ago and while it rained for couple of days, it was really pretty much nothing

my friend moved to gulfport mississppi this july, one of the places that got hit the worst, and fortunately they eveacuated and came safely back here, but their house is assuredly going to be destoryed, and her father may not have a job anymore, and they have 8 kids.

topics merged since they're both essentially going towards the same thing, and this way Katrina isn't referred to as a storm, which is one of the most severe understatements i've heard in a long time

VERY!VERY! SAD BUT TRUE! IM SORRY I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS!
Thank You uninspiredfae very much.

The point is,you can go on that website, and click on the organization, you are willing to donate something like money/whateva',and all you have to look IMO,at contact addresses(if there are any),more closer to your area, and i guess if its not too much for you just to jump in a Bus and just go there to be sure, you land the money/stuffs in the right hands, because like uninspiredfae mentioned ^upper, there are lots of insane ppl who wants to get rich using this "HORRIBLE" things that happen all over the globe.BE VERY CAREFUL,where and who you give those's stuffs, better to donate IRL then over the NET in my opinion, because of the large number of "Identity Thiefs",just when you think you were doing a good thing helping others, you'll be shot in your back.(by those MONSTERS cause i cant seem to find any other name, because they are not Human's for sure, heartless ppl!>.<)

Sorry again if this thread/topic counts as SPAM!

GOD BLESS AMERICA & ALL WHO GOT AFFECT BECAUSE OF THIS HURRICANE!

uh, frankie, you could do it yourself. but i would recommend you not, because it's not so much advertisement as it is support of hurricane victims, and i don't think that can do any harm, seeing how devastatng it has been in louisiana and mississippi.

this is kind of funny, the sad kind of funny. we donated millions privately to tsunami victims, but has anyone heard about relief efforts for from any other part of the world? maybe they're just late, you think? I shall remain hopeful.

Um, please don't be so spiteful, this isn't the time for that shit. if you want to donate and giving a helping hand, just do it, and if you don't, then don't. there is a massive federal relief effort according to CNN that is underway. that's something the government is doing, but this is about something YOU can do to help fellow US citizens, fellow HUMANS for that matter. again, if you don't want to help, just don't. PEOPLE HELP PEOPLE when they are able. when people don't give a shit about others, we decline morally.

it's not even about money, james. they can send help in so many other ways if people really wanted to. did the US ONLY send money to tsunami victims? no. and Somalia? i was thinking: France, England, maybe even Japan and the likes. as i've mentioned in the very same post that you quoted a part of, THOSE WHO ARE ABLE to help should help in some ways. even an OFFER of help would be appreciated, i think.

actually, other countries have put in their good amount, as well.

china sent 65 million.
france, at least 100 million, doctors
japan, 500 million, doctors, emergency workers
afghanistan sent doctors, blood, equipment
north korea 150 million.
germany, 1.2 billion
and the list goes on.

but meh, lots of people assume that it's the US who's been the most charitable, giving, kind... bleh.

well in that case.. how can you even compare the two tragedies?
the tsunami was just unbelievably disasterous to numerous countries.
whereas hurricane katrina effected but a few states.

not exactly cold-hearted, but uninformed. maybe both.

what do you mean i can't even compare the two? don't be silly. any kind of devastation is bad, even if one is worse than the other, they still destroy lives. the point is helping anyone in need, NOT "i'm not going to help these people because they're Americans", "i'm not going to help because it's not as bad as the tsunami". it's not even about not helping because you don't have money, because you have the man power, the brain power to help, too.

if there are two crimes, one of a woman being raped and one of a woman being killed. the one who's being killed is more deserving of help then the one being raped? is that what you're saying? if the two are occuring at the same time, then i may have reason to agree, but if they're occuring in different time lots, then not only are you heartless to ignore the woman being raped, you are also a low-life, in my humble opinion.

actually, the truth is not all cold-hearted. the truth is that many people all the the US are helping these victims as they are able. the truth is also texans opening up their homes to welcome survivors. the truth is people calling in to these shelters asking "how can I help?" the truth is drives are being set up to raise money for victims of katrina.

there will be more hurricanes in the future. imagine that your family is affected as louisianians and so many others were. imagine that you get no help because people have your kind of attitude.

yeah, she's fine. she an her entire family are here. her dad nearly stayed there, so it's fortunate he didn't. they have practixally nothing right now, and if their house is destroyed there, and their dad has no job, i don't know what they're going to do. apparently a lot of people are coming to school here because they can't just not go, but because the schools were destroyed or they just don't know yet, they have no records, so the school is registering people anyway without records, and it can't usually been done

what on earth are you rambling about? stop putting words into my mouth.
my point is, you can't expect this huge world effort (like the tsunami funds) for a hurricane that effected a small portion of one country.
tsunami>hurricane.
& excuse me. i'm the one who's not reading you correctly?

^ i think it's amazing how you act like this hurricane wasn't a big deal, when you obviously didn't have your home destroyed and weren't left starving without food, water, or shelter.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/09/01/katr...pact/index.html

wow...i think this is unbelievable. i didn't know how bad it was until i turned on the news. do you believe that people are robbing gun stores and killing people in new orleans? you would think that they would try to make things better instead of taking out their anger/frustration on other innocent people.

people are DYING and STARVING to death. and what's the excuse for not helping htese people?

"We can't get to them because of the flood."

Oh, wow...our wonderful government can invade another country but can't help out our OWN when it's in need? what is WRONG with our government?

QUOTE(xscore @ Sep 1 2005, 4:17 PM)

what on earth are you rambling about? stop putting words into my mouth.
my point is, you can't expect this huge world effort (like the tsunami funds) for a hurricane that effected a small portion of one country.
tsunami>hurricane.
& excuse me. i'm the one who's not reading you correctly?
[/size]

OH PLEASE.
don't feed me that bullsh1t.
you obviously don't know what i've done to help in this situation. please don't make quick assumptions.
and the whole women getting raped/killed scenario doesn't apply in this argument. obviously, you didn't catch the point i was trying to get through.
so now you know.  _smile.gif
fin.

*

You know, considering that you're the one who don't know how to read, I think you should stop super-sizing your fonts.
Me rambling??? LOL you were rambling about something I wasn't even talking (eg, how other countries was involved in the tsunami relief effort) about and you said I was rambling??? HAHAHHA. Not only are you uninformed about this whole situation, you're uninformed about what you know.

I didn't put words into your mouth, idiot, everything I said about you, you already said it, or implied it.

I'm not expecting anything huge. I don't mean to be rude or mean or whatever, but you are REALLLY stupid . I said, and JAMES even quoted me, that ANY HELP IS STILL HELP. I'm not expecting millions of dollars, I'm expecting an OFFER to help, ANY KIND OF OFFER to help from other countries. I'VE SAID THIS SOOO MANY TIMES, I DON'T understand why you can't see it. Get it through your tiny brain that I said "even an offer of help would be appreciated".

The example about the women is called an allusion.

You're the one bullshitting, son, quit it <a deviation of "quit the bullshit son".

Mmm. So an update from me because I'm procrastinating:

Katrina has been terrible. Some people I know have relatives in New Orleans, but thankfully their family members have already evacuated to other parts of the country. My school is actually registering people that have come all the way from New Orleans, which I think is pretty cool :]

Gas prices are going up because of Katrina, and people are freaking out. I understand that the gas prices have gone extremely high, but I wish some people would stop complaining about them and think about how fortunate they are to actually be living. Seriously...

Sorry. Just a rant. x[

why can't everyone make up like xscore and fae?

anyway, student council, pals, our senior high team and maybe more are raising money. from stuco, we've gotten maybe four thousand from adults. our goal is for us students to match that.

Is this why you begged me to join these particular forums, Michelle.
To back you up in this...debate?
You both are being pathetic. Don't continue with this.

On another note...
Yes, be careful where you donate your money.
Your best bet is probably the Red Cross.
I've volunteered there, so yes.

Hey I just wanted to say I'm from Houston where a lot of the refugees have come and they really need any sort of help, mostly cash because the Red Cross can't begin to assess the damage. The people also desperately need bottled water, clothing, food, etc. Local schools are opening up their doors to students for the next month, people from the Superdome are being transported to the Astrodome (our old stadium), and all the hotels and motels are full. People here are the lucky ones that could afford to leave. Our government is actually doing its job. The areas was labelled a crisis situation before the storm even struck and their sending more National Guard in to control the looting and riots, but there is only so much anyone can do. Its total chaos over there and the city is in a toxic pool of corpses (new and old), sewage, gasoline, alligators, and even reported sharks. Please donate.

no one has been talking about it, probably because of Joyce, so I haven't had to worry. My neighbors actually decided to be polite and not discuss politics in mixed company, so they switched from Bush to Medlock Bridge (random topic) before I could object. If my friends said things I disagreed with, I probably would argue. I just couldn't win as easily as i can on cb

I was watching the news, and tons of people are stuck in the Superdome. They're starting to get really, really pissed off, and most of the victims are Afican-American. (They think this is the reason they're not getting help.) A member of Spanish Parliment was escorted out of the Superdome by the military police, even though thousands of people just happen to be stranded there.

The same overcrowding situation is happening in the Houston Astrodome. But I really hope that the govt. starts to do domething. I'm especially pissed at the president for not getting up off his hick ass and actually doing something about this.

^ i think we need to stop saying the government knew something but didn't do anything. a hurricane is a natural event that gives (usually) no prior warning. look at the tsunami victims.

which is why i feel so guilty and so shocked. when i was watching the news, they said katrina blew into land, rained a little, and blew back out. the people was saying how it was a catergory 1/2 storm. a day ago, i was watching the news and it just baffles me how it jumped to five so quickly. and then i felt guilty cause i paid no mind to it.

QUOTE(funbobby @ Aug 31 2005, 6:27 PM)

i know this is from several pages ago but i can't let it go. yes, america is rich and we're in a war but you have no right to say that. most of the americans have no say in the war and within our own country we got protests. how DARE you put the blame and thousands of innocent natural disaster victims? how dare you say 'sort their own situation out'? i'm aware of how indifferent and cold the world can be nowadays. but let's dig deep and find what little humanity we have left, ok?

Um, no. I meant ADD because I thought she changed the subject rather abruptly. meaning first we were talking about one thing and then she started with another, jumped from one thing to another... i also know the differences between the two disorders, by the way.

and no, that's not advertising. it's rather appropriate for this topic.

my family donated $400 through amazon to the red cross. i guess that's the least we can do in a situation like this.

im defniitely happy that there are over 36 countries helping out compared to the 20 that were in the beginning...but to be quite honest, that STILL isn't as much as i anticipated.

woahh...i'm surprised the U.K. and France want to help.

two can play that game. a lot of those people should have gotten the heck out of there instead of waiting to be stranded. < not including those who do not have the means to leave.

EDIT//
Honestly I think this is devastating. I just feel really sad everytime I watch the news, because it makes me realize how truly blessed I am.

I also mos def believe that Kanye is really telling the truth in that film clip.

The modern rock station has been collecting money in exchange for song requests - ANY song request. They played Macho Man last night. Anyway someone just donated $7000 (yes, seven thousand) so that they'd have a even total of half a million dollars raised by listeners in 3 days.
