A bit late to start this, but the French Open has been pretty exciting so far. Which players do you love/hate?

I'm pulling for my favorite player, Gael Monfils, to win it all. I think he will upset Federer.

I never get to watch the French Open cause I'm always still in school. D: I haven't even watched tennis on TV since the Olympics, LOL.

Sharapova got owned and that is sad but she did good at least. Fed has no easy way to this crown with del potro and gael still in it.

Serena Williams is the Kanye West of women's tennis. Inconsistent, brash and arrogant to the point where you start to hate her, but you can't deny the tremendous amount of success she's had.

I'm surprised Soderling beat Davydenko. I thought him beating Nadal was a fluke, but maybe he is the real deal.

I think he pushed a few players in one of the slams between wimbledon last year and the french. I know he had one deep run where he took somebody out.

I didn't see the Davydenko match, but I feel that Soderling used the same strategy against Nadal that Federer used in Madrid. He took a lot of high risk shots that ended up paying off against Nadal, instead of trying to grind it out with him. I don't mean to say that he's been getting lucky, but I'm not yet ready to say that he's the real deal yet.

now safina is going to win the title. It really won't mean much though until she goes through a battle tested player in the final.

lol, I haven't been able to take women's tennis since Henin retired.

Monfils just lost, seems like he lost all his steam after losing the tiebreaker in the first set.

Yeah, this tourney is Federer's to win. He's beaten JMDP on clay this year, and for the finals, maybe Gonzo could pull the upset, but Fed's looking really confident now.

grats fed on career grand slam and 14 slams. now retire so everyone else can have a shot ;) Nice to see Andre Agassi show up too.

also, lol @ the dude that ran onto the court waving a Barca flag at Federer

@Teesa: It wasn't too early on the East coast, around 9 AM I think. Women's tennis is awful because all of the women players are terrible. They're all head cases that cave in under pressure. Look how many #1's there have been in women's tennis recently. And don't even try to say it's because the field is more competitive. They're not all equally good, they're all equally bad. Kuznetsova didn't win that match, Safina lost it. Maybe I'd be less annoyed if ESPN didn't decide to air Serena vs Kuznetsova over Monfils vs Federer. But between the two, there is no comparison between watching men's tennis and women's tennis.

YEEEEESSS :)

wtf, that random guy trying to put a hat on federer? security!

i understand what you mean-like when they cave in under pressure-that is so true. i prefer men's tennis too. espn loves the williams sisters. i remember when i wanted to watch a match in the earlier rounds, but they were showing them playing doubles. SO boring.

Actually, I'm pulling for Murray at Wimby. I'm sick of the British commentators overhyping him, so if winning will get them off his dick, then so be it.

I hope Federer doesn't break Sampras' record until he's close to retiring. Having 20 GS titles would be pretty unbreakable.

^good call...federer has had problems with murray. but overall, i think federer is a more composed player. but that would be a great matchup to watch at wimbledon.

yeah, but then when we're old and no one else is good enough to beat his record, we can be like haha we were witnesses to that greatness cool.gif lol

you mean when federer beat murray for his 13th grand slam at the u.s open back in september?

what federer had to say about murray for this wimbledon

“I always knew that Andy was going to be one of the toughest ones to beat on grass next to Rafa and Djokovic,” said Federer, who opens play on Centre Court today against Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei. Asked whether Murray is his biggest threat, Federer said: “No.”

LOL you're in denial over his losses. Federer has peaked, there's no getting around that fact.

Read again, I said early at the beginning of THIS year, where Murray beat Federer at Indian Wells and Doha. And when Federer cried like a bitch when he lost the Aussie Open. Yeah, he beat Murray LAST year, but since then, Murray has owned Federer four times, including wins in Madrid and the Masters Cup after Fed's US Open victory over Murray.

I'm still expecting Federer to win Wimbeldon. But no wonder Fed is disrespecting Murray, if Murray wins, he'll overtake Federer as #2. He did the same shit to Djokovic when he was catching up in ranking.

i am SO angry that i had to watch roddick win on the wimbledon slamtracker online. why the hell would they not show that match when it was on center court?? i'm sooo happy he won, but WTF. seriously.

i liked hearing about the two major upsets in women's tennis.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I remember that

Haas lucked out hardcore, he would have been f*cked if not for the suspension of play. Congrats to him though, I actually like his style of play, it's just a shame that he's such a headcase.

It boggles the mind how ESPN prioritizes which match to show. Oh well, at least I can watch Murray against Troicki.

[edit]Oh snap, I just noticed Troicki uses an Ozone Tour.

I'm not betting on any upsets in the quarters. Roddick's been owning Hewitt in their past several matches, so I still think Roddick will win, even if it might take more than 3 sets. Karlovic has been serving like a beast, but Federer is too good for that to matter. Murray has Ferrero, but this is on grass and not clay, so I doubt he'll give Murray much trouble. Haas vs Djokovic might be interesting, two head cases.

Well, I think there will be tiebreakers and Karlovic may take a set or two, but I just don't think Dr. Ivo can serve perfectly for three sets, let alone 5 if it gets that far. Federer can also do more to his second serve than the guys that Karlovic has played with so far, and I don't think he has the return game to break back if Federer can break him due to his size.

But we'll see, maybe Fed will have an off day and Karlovic will serve the match of his life.

Not to take anything from Haas, since he was playing great (it's always good to see someone doing serve and volley these days), but Djokovic was pathetic. I don't think he has a real shot at being #1. Hopefully Haas vs. Federer will be like their French Open match.

Don't be so sure of it. Haas had match point on Federer in the French Open, and I feel like he's playing stronger as of late. If anything, serve and volley will work better on grass than it did on clay. It all depends on which Tommy Haas shows up on court.

If I had to pick one men's match to watch, it would be Haas vs Fed. Murray vs Roddick is just gonna be Murray toying with Roddick. Roddick will continually overuse his slice backhand, then once his serve breaks down, he's going to get frustrated and overhit.

On the women's side, I'm rooting for Venus. I detest Serena.
