ummm...the swimming thing is really good! i like to swim too...but i never go... the thing is, u shouldn't eat only 2 meals a day. eat at least 3 meals and 2 snacks, smaller portions more frequently let your body digest food correctly and you'll lose weight. or try atkins...i did it for like, 2 days, and i lost 2 pounds!!! of course watch out when u get off it...u can gain the weight back really quickly...

according to this website (http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm) your BMI is 23.8 which is perfect. please don't skip meals. as someone said before, it is better to eat 4-5 smaller meals a day rather than 2-3 huge meals. skipping meals can lead to unhealthy weight loss, eating disorders, and your metabolism dropping which will just make you gain weight because your metabolism is what makes your body burn fat. wanna boost your metabolism? try some green tea. i heard that it really does work. maybe your overeating? try recording everything you eat for like....a week. maybe count the calories? always stop eating when you are full. and if your trying to lose, don't put as much food on your plate. studies prove that if you have more on your plate, you tend to eat more. always remember that muscle weighs more than fat. i have friends that tell me i'm the skinniest person they know, that i'm some kind of twig. i wear size 0-1 pants and xsmall in everything i buy...yet i weigh 110. this is because i am a gymnast and it requires intense weight training. so don't stress out if you've been gaining alittle lately because 3 hours, 5 days a week is pretty intense (i know because my work out is the same) and swimming requires alot of muscle too. i'm not sure if this is right but if your pants are starting to get tight...it might be because your doing the weight training but do not stretch out your muscles afterward, causing your muscles to get bulkier (<--is that even a word?) rather then those long lean muscles you want. i think i covered just about everything. i hope i've been helpful. sorry it was so long but i have nothing better to do.

*sorry for all the grammar and spelling mistakes. cut me some slack. i have the flu and i'm not feeling very well. tongue.gif

you eat two meals a day?

bingo! right there.. all thats doing for you is slowing down your metabolism.. which definently is not good if what your aiming for iswait loss.. try 5-6 small meals a day.

also, dont focus on how much you way. muscle mass is so much denser than fat, and it sounds like from the amount you swim, your basically building up muscle. try some yoga or pilates. i swear, that stuff is like a miracle. it burns fat, and doesnt bulk up muscle.

ok, that should help happy.gif

my health teacher told us that if you loose 500 calories a day ( not by not eating but by holding off on junk food and soda ) and do lots of exercise you can loose weight

my mom always says:
eat 3 meals a day, eat slowly, stop when you really feel full [but not bloated], exercise daily, drink plenty of water.
iono if that works or not.. but.. w/e. mommy knows best. =)

it's interesting how you all are saying that she should try something more vigorous then swimming... well, speaking to you as a competitive swimmer, i have to say that swimming is one of the toughest sports out there. trust me, i have played other sports as well. the thing with swimming is that it works every part of your body instead of just one particular part. however, i do agree with the part that you are probably gaining muscle. swimming does require a great deal of muscle. it is a great way to lose weight and stay healthy. also, with swimming, the cutting out the carbohydrates thing is definitely not a good idea. it is a sport that requires a lot of carbs because they give you energy. if you aren't taking in any carbs then your body doesn't have enough energy to use while you're swimming and will eventually eat away at the muscle you do have. and it's true, skipping meals will slow down your metabolism and it makes the body want to store more fat. it is reccommended that you eat three large meals, or five to six small meals per day and stay healthy and drink lots of water.

hope this could help you. sometimes when i get on the scale i think that i am overweight, too. i'm 15, 5'7" and 140 lbs... but then i realize that i participate in intense daily physical activity that is causing me to gain more muscle. and since i started swimming for my high school team last year (i had been swimming on a team just over the summer for quite sometime, but this is year round) i have noticed that i have lost a lot of weight. so keep at it.

p.s. running is also a good way to speed up your metabolism, but overtime can be dangerous for the knees and other joints. just remember to do what's best for you. don't try to lose weight just because you feel like it's what other people want or what you think you're supposed to look like. do it for yourself. that's the only way it will ever be rewarding.
