QUOTE(wincyyellow @ Feb 16 2005, 11:01 AM) everything is bad for health and again, as i've stated before, there has never been any correlation of cancer or other 'unhealthy traits' associated with weed. cigarettes, yes because there are carcinogens and toxins that has been linked to cancer, not weed. |

QUOTE(urbanychic @ Feb 14 2005, 9:00 PM) hmm .... marijuana doesn't kill brain cells. you are more likely to 'lose' brain cells from falling off of your bed than smoking marijuana. Also, there has been NO case of anyone EVER dying from marjiana; ever in the history of marijuana. People have died from cocaine, alcohol, CAFFIENE (yes thats a drug), tobacco, among other things but NEVER from marijuana. Marijuana is a depressent, and a stimulant (just like alcohol and tobacco). If marijuana was so 'bad' for you, why are they prescribing it to sick patients (for instance, patients with cancer?). Also, marijuana hasn't ever been linked to cancer like tobacco has because marijuana is a natural plant with no carcinogens or toxins. It is natural and comes straight from the earth. Yes, tobacco is but tobacco companies put in a lot of filters and perservatives (tar for instance) that causes tobacco to be so horrible. I should also mention, I am an avid smoker of marijuana and it has never affected my life. I still maintain good grades and good contact with my parents (they even know!). I'm safe when I do it. I don't go out driving or walking around when I'm intoxicated ... because, for those people who don't know. Being intoxicated from marijuana is the same sort of feeling as being intoxicated from alcohol. Your inhibitions are gone ... so i guess you're trying to say that smoking weed has no affect on anybody whatsoever and that it's ok to smoke it? All because it hasn't had a negative affect on you [yet], doesn't mean that everybody should start smoking. Putting chemicals into your body that aren't supposed to be there IS dangerous and bad for you. get real. |

EVERYTHING in moderation can be bad for you. eat to much bread? you can get sick. drink to much water? your cells can explode (seriously). EVERYTHING can hurt you, EVERYTHING! |

Saying that everything can hurt you is an exaggeration. Doing [illegal] drugs is BAD for your body. Period. Nuff said. If you [im speaking about people in general] do drugs because they are "stressed out" then that's just sad. This is an issue that connects with cutting yourself. If you are really that much of a coward where you have to force harmful chemicals into your body in order to feel relaxed, then damn...you can't handle anything in life. |

"The short-term effects of marijuana can include problems with memory and learning; distorted perception; difficulty in thinking and problem solving; loss of coordination; and increased heart rate. Research findings for long-term marijuana use indicate some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term use of other major drugs of abuse. For example, cannabinoid (THC or synthetic forms of THC) withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system(6) and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine(7). Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse."
"One study has indicated that a user’s risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana. The researchers suggest that such an effect might occur from marijuana’s effects on blood pressure and heart rate and reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood." I found that information about marijuana on a website right now. I think that's enough proof to show that it is harmful. "Marijuana use also has the potential to promote cancer of the lungs and other parts of the respiratory tract because it contains irritants and carcinogens" there you go. it CAN cause lung cancer. |

I study and maintain an EXCELLENT school status. I smoke because it is a recreational hobby for me, like people who play soccer. Yes, i realize they aren't the same but people play soccer because they enjoy it. And cutting yourself, at least from my experience, is a totally different relation than smoking. |

Yes, i realize they aren't the same but people play soccer because they enjoy it. And cutting yourself, at least from my experience, is a totally different relation than smoking. recreational hobby? Why not find a hobby that keeps your body in shape, or better yet, makes you healthy? Are there any advantages besides feeling "relaxed and high" when you smoke? I doubt it. You can't compare playing a sport to smoking pot. Playing sports helps your metabolism, your muscles, and your body develop. Smoking pot definitely does none of these. edit// i can't respect people who smoke pot. I won't hang around people that do. That's just who I am and how I was brought up. Why SHOULD i give them any respect? |
