I made the initial caveat that it was a dominant trait. A dominant trait shows even if there is a heterozygote. Therefore Ss would be straight. However, the gene obviously is not inherited in a simple Mendelian manner, but I had to simplify it to that degree in order to explain the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium theroy and why the gene would remain even though it completely prevented reproduction. The actual theoretical workings of the so called "gay gene" are much more complex than my current understanding of genetic inheritance and expression. Hormone actions during puberty are largely dependent on genetic information, and whether or not they are expressed are usually up to chance.

rather, gay men are more likely to have uncles on thier mother's side who are gay.
that is one of the only links that have been found. it could point to a genetic, x based resessive trait, in which case we would see 3x as many gay men as women. social factors, like men being less likely to reveal thier gay (if it's true), could effect the ratio, so it wouldn't be exact. |

WELL thats just nonsense homosexuality isnt in people's GENES! and if it is when i guess i my biology teacher miss the part of tlaking about the gay gene. I belive that people chose to be homosexual. I find it funny when people say that they were born homosexual because that just nonsense you're either born a boy or a girl (there are exceptions) and later on you chose to be homosexual Please people lets not listen to this bullshit. This person clearly has a problem with gay people in genral.I think that if your gay it can be both your born with it or you just figure it out. I know that people have there own opinion but this one above me is bullshit lets write better stuff people |

Well, I'm personally not sure. I of course don't belive that it is a mental disorder, but I'm not too sure about the whole genes thing. I pretty much think that people like who they like, and they can't help it

It has NOTHING to do with our genes or disorders. It's just another way of looking at the world.

mental disorder? how twisted can you be? my god... i never thought that anyone could stoop down to that level. Well, now I know. I feel a lot better about myself knowing that I'm not as unintelligent and disgusting as some people are. Really. Why would someone even think to say it's a mental disorder? It's just a guy/girl who likes a certain sex. It's like how I like certain things, how I'd pick this certain thing over that. It's just the way we are.

Really. Why would someone even think to say it's a mental disorder? It's just a guy/girl who likes a certain sex. It's like how I like certain things, how I'd pick this certain thing over that. It's just the way we are. because in real life without its candy coating, there are people who believe homosexuality results from a mental disorder, crossed wires, or chemical imbalance. mental disorder might not be the best way to say it but in essence that's what some people think homosexuality is caused by - a mishap in the brain. just because someone thinks a brain mishap is the cause for homosexuality does not mean they don't like gay people. when people see something that they aren't used to, they try to reason and find the cause behind it. when i started the topic, i had no intention of offending anyone. i just wanted a debate on the different perspectives that i've encountered. i choose to focus on the scientifical reasoning. either it occurs naturally like a variation (like why we have different races - just for a diverse human population) or it's caused by a difference/change in the person's thinking. |

homosexuality i'd say is closest to a natural variation of people, but maybe not genetics wise. i think homosexuality is caused by a predisposition that has something to do with a person's chemical balances, and then can be affected by the way a person interacts within society. it really seems like something that has so many factors, no single thing can be specifically keyed as what makes a particular person homosexual or not.
this does not mean i think homosexuality is a mental disorder. it's just the way a person is. essentialy, a person is born gay. they may choose to act on this impulse in later relationships, or they may supress it. that's where "choice" comes in. i really don't like when people say people choose to be gay. many things in your life have nothing to do with choice. if homosexuality was really a choice, how many people would choose to be gay, when being homosexual greatly raises a person's chances of being abused or critised because of that fact? people may subconciouslly "choose" to allow their homosexuality to be part of themselves, or they may supress it. >rilind |

just because someone thinks a brain mishap is the cause for homosexuality does not mean they don't like gay people. I never said that people who think it's a disorder don't like gays. I just couldn't understand why people would think that in the first place, but now I get what you're saying.

what your saying is that being homosexual is like eyecolors. like having no power to change eyecolors except wearing contacts. I know countless people who changed from being gay to straight and from straight to gay. so what if you were gay because of natural variation and you don't want to? well u can't change that fact because of natural variation. i think its all in the mind.
