I think it's ridiculous to say young people don't know what love is. True, a lot of the times, with really early teens, 'love' is a very loose concept. However, you shouldn't call people sick, unclean, or stupid for being with their boyfriend or girlfriend. My boyfriend and I been together for 2 years. I don't regret anything.
I don't think age tells you what love is. Love is an emotion that effects people differently. When we're young, we know we love our family/pets/friends. We grow older and we find that special someone and eventually love. 16 -17 year olds... I think they have a pretty good grasp of what love is or know relatively it. Unlike ...say... 13 year olds who think a crush means love. What age does, ultimately, is teach you how to handle love better and how to be in a healthy relationship. Age has experinece so you know whose right for you. But love is an emotion that's constant and you experience throughout your life. And even adults don't know what love is: high divorces rates, dating services (submitting a survey to a computer and let it tell you whose right for you), speed dating, etc. I think the main problem is the idea of young people having sex too early. They can't handle the consequences and that's where the age factor comes in. It's not rather or not they know what love is but rather, how they handle the situation. |
