QUOTE What about hiring another one? Well, not hiring, but requesting? Searching for another free one? Also, this is why people should pay attention in civics class. Haha. Seriously, if they've seen the lawyer fail, if the person is truly determined and knows they're innocent, they'll find a way to prove it. I never took civics class Ok well, think about this, some foreigner immigrates and he gets framed for a crime, but he has no idea how our judicial system works, and he doenst know if its a bad lawyer and he doesnt request one and gets convicted for a crime he didnt do while the real murder walks free and he dies, is that just? QUOTE I never said there weren't innocent people going to jail anyways. Your intent is to help out the most people, correct? Did you disreguard my whole comment about that up there from before? Erm... you know I wear glasses! Maybe I didnt see it *is still trying to think of that comment..* |

Well, they do have to study our country's government before becoming a citizen. They can't be tried in an American justice system unless they're a citizen first. If they commit the crime, they'd be deported. Also, if the citizen knew enough about our country, they wouldn't risk having to be deported by killing someone. QUOTE that reminds me of communism.. haha |

I asked what if they were FRAMED and didnt know about our country enough.. ok, say there were ppl living here for a while and were citizens, but they didnt know how our judicial system worked and where framed, then what? |

QUOTE Ahh...I didn't read into it. Sorry. Hmm...what are the chances of being framed, being a foreigner, and having a bad lawyer? Slim to none. If you're going to come up with a scenario, couldn't it be something that's not so...ack can't think of the word...you know what I mean. Haha, fine then.. what if one was framed, but the prosecution had one of the best lawyers, and the DA was realli desperate to get you convicted, to set as an example or something.. that's a bit more realistic (that's word I believe you wanted) |

That should create more legal caution. |

Erm.. wouldnt that cause a shortage of DA's by being afraid to prosecute capital charges? QUOTE *Points* THAT'S the word I wanted! Thanks. Anywho, um...well, why would they be really desperate? If they needed a scapegoat, to set an example, etc.. |

I heard lots of stuff about lawyers, so here's a try to give them a good name.
One defense lawyer may be bad, but if you're on death row there are many chances for you to get acquittals and get yourself another lawyer. Not all defense attornies are that bad. Sometimes, you just can't argue that someone's innocent when they're not. This doesn't reflect on a lack of skills on the lawyer's part, but if someone's guilty, then it's very hard to prove them innocent. Give court appointed lawyers a break. |

No that just makes DAs less likely to seek the death penalty unless they're absolutely sure that the person is guilty. It would help prevent them from using it to further political ends, and also reduce the incentive to cheat. |

I don't think the death penalty is much of a learning tool. You already know killing is bad from your morals. Capital punishment is used to instill fear. It wouldn't a lesson to learn from, it something that you know you should not do because you can die from doing it. |

Isn't it a worse punishment knowing that you will be detained from social life and living your life condemned in a cell? It just depends on how you look at it, to the prisoners, it's an easy way out to just be killed, but they will suffer long and hard if they are closed up in a cell...

After I stage my military coup I will free all the prisoners in the Country and make them serve 3 years in my Grand Imperial Army. So they do have hope of release after a life sentence. |

QUOTE(EmeraldKnight @ May 24 2004, 7:25 PM) Minda! Be realistic! I think they'd be a great addition. I won't put them in my Elite Forces, obviously, but I can recruit them into a mass swarm of conscripts that will descend upon recalcitrant old Republican forces like a swarm of locusts upon a harvest field! |
