Hopefully, this thread hasn't been made yet, sorry if it has...

Anywhoo:

Are you for or against cloning? Why or why not?
*

I am against this for one reason. If you clone a person who just died, and replaced him with a clone with the same age as the person that died, the same works of mind, the same personality, the same reactions, the same disorders/etc, etc, will it be the same person you know and love?

My opinion is no, since the person you know and love is dead, this clone is a different soul. But I am against it only for that senario, since I don't know any other senarios

Well, since you cannot exactly clone dead people, you might as well be for it! _smile.gif

I'm against cloning, but I could also somewhat understand how a mother who lost a premature baby would want to clone the baby.
People shouldn't be cloned for their organs though, that's for sure.

^why not?

create a clone, after 2 months destroy all but the prospective organ, finish growing it in vitro, and use it as a transplant organ.

I support cloning. Once the clone grows, get the organ and transplant if you need and destroy it. Having two identical yous is confusing so kill it afterwards. It helps benefits man kind. For example if they want to test a new medicine on someone who has a rare disease but is unable to because of the fact that you might die, USE A CLONE!

im against it because people are trying to play god and they shouldnt...if they need organs than get them from the organs donors that die every day.

I am against it because I think it would be scary with clones walking around
and I would hide.

I don't know about you guys but there's one misconception about cloning that some people make - if you clone a person, then you don't immediately get a clone of yourself at the current moment. You'll get a baby - more appropriately an embryo - that has the same DNA as you. By the time he/she/it is your age, you'll be twice that, unless of course it's a Hollywood movie.

Personally, although it may have a lot of biological and medical benefits, I feel I'm against it because of the moral issues surrounding it. It's similar to the debate over abortion... hey, that can be a new topic

yes but it will eventually become you have any of you read "THE HOUSE OF THE SCORPION" thats about clones its a good book but scary to think of it really happening

I am for Therapeutic cloning, stem-cell research but against cloning as a way for Asexual reporduction.

Its true that the motivation for all medical practices is consequentialist (primarly seeking benifitial outcome but sometimes producing a negative result) but the resulting benifit from a technology that can help heal millions is far greater then any negatives. Think about it for a second, with the technology to heal previously incurable diseases you will save million of lives and personally I think thats more valuable then the destruction of thousands of embroys.

Reprudctive cloning, to me, is inmoral. How would you like to know that you are the product of a few scientists working in a lab? Throughout the child's life, he or she will be denied the love of one parent. It will destroy familes.

I think it would be a bit more convenient for a hospital to have a supply of healthy vital organs at their disposal for patients with urgent needs, rather than worn out ones from the deceased, mkay.

Not to mention how cloning organs can virtually knock out immune actions against foreign organs in patients. You can't just take a organ and put it into another person. If organs can be created from a person's genetic information, they wouldn't cause a immune response in the person's body when transplanted.

And to the religious;
How exactly do we know that cloning isn't one of God's methods of bringing souls to Earth? Wouldn't clones have souls too? And to those who say not to play as God, why not? Is it because you are scared of the possibility that man can create what God has? It is unethical just because God didn't do it? He has access and power over all, and I'm fairly certain that if we started to clone people, it would be a part of God's plan.

^ Your clone will not be your twin. If you were to get yourself cloned, by the time your clone is 18 years old you will be your age + 18.

Even if clones do become legal, they still are human. You say destroy it like its just some product but clones would still have thoughts and dreams just like the rest of us. It's wrong to use a person just because of their body parts.

I don't think that cloning is best way to go. Sure it could help cure diseases and all but I think what's meant to happen happens and technology isn't always the best thing to go with

against it. why waste time on cloning when there are a lot more other things that are way more important than this? like for instance, i don't see why there are those who wouldn't mind if they clone people. if it's just out of nowhere, that is just stupid. but if someone was to be clone since the real human being is going to die, that's just plain freaky. they can be considered as a "human", but i disagree. it's just not natural.

That's wrong. A clone is just another human being that happens to have the same DNA as another person. Depending on the environment he or she is brought up in, he or she may or may not be anything like the person they were "cloned" from. Identical twins have identical DNA. A clone would just be like a twin who developed in someone else's womb (and some couples have had their babies develop in other people's wombs). Of course they're going to have a soul and conscience - I don't know what you're on about. Anyway, between us humans, less than 99% of our DNA differ from other humans. We're all slight mutations of each other. If we keep on calling clones "clones", then the appropriate name for us would be "mutants".

Agreed. I think I am against it though. I see no reason why cloning is necessary.

I'm against it. Cloning is playing God which isn't cool.

Just the fact that we can play God is interesting, don't you think?

You know, cloning is not limited to only making a copy of a human or animal. Through stem cell research, cloning will also include making copies of only organs, too. I'm all for that, it will save a lot of lives. I find cloning humans completely useless. I think the only reason they do it is just like the Space Race - because they can.
