8-12 years of medical schooling doesn't really sound like "fast cash". wink.gif

There are a number of fields in the medical industry that do not require 8- 12 years medical schooling (non MD/PhD related, of course).

I've been in the medical industry for about 8 years now. I'm lucky in that I don't have a degree (not that I recommend not getting a degree) but have a strong background in medical coding/billing and what not. I've been a systems analyst for different types of Medical Information type technologies/software for a few years now.

Having said that - I'd really like to go back to school and get credentialed so that I can work with special education children, particularly those with a diagnosis of autism.

I don't mean this to be rude at all, so I hope I don't come off as being rude, but have you made what most people would call "fast cash"?

My reply wasn't directed to the "fast cash" portion of the reply, it was directed to the years of schooling portion of the reply. (I'm not quite sure if that sentence made sense or not whistling.gif )

That and I don't have any cash! So I defintely haven't made what most people would call "fast cash" anyway. laugh.gif

Yeah, you and me both. _smile.gif

My original response was with the assumption that the poster wished to be a doctor (perhaps I jumped to the wrong conclusion). Doctors do make a fair amount of money, but, having several friends who are in school to be a doctor, I've found that becoming a doctor is certainly no small task; there are probably easier ways to make the kind of money a doctor makes.

But you bring up a good point: There are other ways to work in the medical profession that are fulfilling and allow one to make a good living, without being a doctor per se.

I'm really not certain anymore, which is a really scary thing to me.

At first, I was sure that I wanted to be a band director. But with my break from school, being away from band has made me realize there's much more to life than band.
I'm also considering teaching history, since I have always loved history, and teaching is something I think I should do.

I just don't know anymore...

I used to really want to be a spectroscopist, but now I think I changed my mind.
I think what I really want to do is become an astrophysicist or engineer and work with NASA, preferably at the JPL in California (in Caltech, I think).

Just something in NASA is good enough for me _smile.gif
