Mine does too, definitely. Our top concert band is excellent. Our marching is good too, though.

Our marching band lacked originality. It was just another boring band that did the same crap every year. Not the band's fault, though-- the director's.

Meh. Alll this band talk has got me missing band again. =[

Ah, that sucks. We've done Mambo Loco, a Latin themed show which was pretty cool. The highlight was the drum solo with drum thing.

Billy Joel was last year. We jazz ran. It impressed people.

This year we're doing the Beatles and it's my least favorite show of the three. We have some cool halftime stuff at the end, and there's a woodwind/pit feature of Here Comes the Sun, but I don't think it's very fitting. There's also a peace sign in Hey Jude which is pretty lame

Let's see...freshman year we did Riverdance, sophomore year we did Chuck Mangione, junior year we did Paul Simon, and my senior year we did a Broadway show (Old Man River; New York, New York; Cool; and some other songs I forget).
Yeah. We're cool. *rolls eyes* I wish I could have moved to the Woodlands where my dad lives. That way I could've been a member of one of the best bands ever, in my opinion. =]

Our band doesn't have much originality either...There was like, Mr. and Mrs. Potato head...and dancing bands, and bands that ran around...Then there was us...Just marching and playing and twirling. Nothing special. I hate it.

Our theme is "Portrait of America". We did the Beatles two years ago I think, and everyone LOVED it...Yeah...

And we jazz run...I hate that junk. It's just...ehhhhh I have to jazz run across the whole field. But yeah...Have fun with the Beatles show. :)

Really? I thought I saw your show 2 years ago...and I don't remember it being Beatles. Hm. Jazz running is actually kind of fun, if you eliminate the people hwo look like chickens and think they're doing it well

OUR SHOW IS ENDLESS ENIGMA, a rock show on the field, haha...

Opener is Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues
than the rest of the songs are by Emerson-Laken Palmer, um... I know we're playing Trilogy and two other songs. hehe ^_^

It's beautiful.

I really wished I was in wind symphony today.

They called up the team we're playing tonight (North Gwinnett), played for them, and then the BD said "ummm...go band! we're gonna kick your ass!" and hung up

then they proceeded to call and play for numerous other people, like Brookwood, the BD's mom, some guy in Wisconson, and they tried to called the old assistant BD, but he called the wrong number and got Dacula instead of Central Gwinnett and with everyone laughing in the background, they though calling and asking for Mr. Matthews was some kind of practical joke. Then they called the right number, and wound up leaving a message. The new assistant BD missed the wrong number thing and laughed way too hard, because he's really want people to like him, but it's not going well

After they played "Jungle Boogie" for Brookwood, they thought it was a recording, not the band live

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
double post, i know, but this really needs its own

tonight's show sucked. in the opener, 3 people fell down right next to me, and i just barely avoided continuing the domino effect. that freaked me out so much. then things kept falling apart, crucial people didn't remember their moves...grrr!! i may not be a good marcher, but i know my sets pretty f**king well. i can mark time the show with all the proper horn moves and halts. i'm just not the best at the actual marching, so no one listens to me. i wind up having to take out my charts and prove it to them, so they can say they did that all along which is bullshit
ahhhhhhhhhhh. i know we only just learned half the closer this week, and we got an insanely large portion of the show done in the past few, but wow. horrible. the new stuff was actually better than it was at practice last night. no one hit me with a flag, and the drumline got out of my way

I'll merge the 2 previous posts, but this is important (or, at least, something everyone can/should see)

http://www.11alive.com/sports/football/highschool/

Norcross High: band of the week

CLICK THERE AND WATCH NOW!

ignoring the fact that it's ridiculously short and they chose a part where we didn't sound good, and there's not decent marching to watch...just watch anyway

You know, if other people would post, I wouldn't have to post on top of myself like this. Triple (and it used to be quadruple...which I just mispelled) posting is bad. But if you'd just post more and humor me in my competition season invoked obession, I wouldn't have to so much

So. First competition yesterday. We got jipped. We lost by 2 points out of 1000 to Peachtree Ridge because while on brass judge gave us 97, the other gave us 88, which is a ridiculously large difference.

Overall:
1st- Kell
2nd- Peachtree Ridge
3rd- Norcross

Open Class:
1st- Peachtree Ridge (best drumline, brass)
2nd- Norcross (best drum major, woodwinds, color guard)

so see, we won the most captions and should have won best brass too. Then we would have gotten 2nd and first, not last and 3rd

booooo @ Brookwood judges...again. For the third year in a row.

YAY! I'm so excited. I go back to college next semester and I'll be starting music education. Do any of you clarinets have any suggestions on what would be a good technical etude to play for wind symphony auditions?
Gah! I can't wait! I'm going to be an awesommeeee band director. =]
