QUOTE(sikdragon @ Jul 26 2005, 12:42 AM)
Do you know for a fact that they were not doing something illegal? They could have had a tip that those people were in possession of something. Profiling is on both sides of this coin. The cops could've just been doing their jobs.

...like the cops in London who saw a Brazilian man with an oversized coat and a bag. Their immediate profiling of the man led to the belief that the man must have been part of the bombings because his coat didn't look right. They ended up shooting him in the head several times and killing him. They found out later he was completely innocent and was only an electrician on the way to work. So much for profiling. Oh yeah...I forgot...the cops were only doing their jobs.

Profiling is a justification for stereotyping a group of people based on physical and behavioral characteristics. If you're not the subject of the profiling it's no big thing. When you are, your life is completely turned upside down because of a knee-jerk reaction from someone responsible for keeping us safe.

Amadu Diallo and Richard Jewel are two other examples of what profiling can lead to. It is not a justifiable way to enforce the law. Countless law-abiding Japanese, Koreans and other nationalities were locked in camps while we were at war because of profiling. Having lived in LA for a while, I saw first-hand the LAPD Rampart Division get completely overhauled because of the long-term effects of profiling and the ability of the police to commit crimes because of it.

It's unfortunately used to promote fear among different groups and the illusion of justifiable policing procedures. That's my view on this matter. mad.gif

Racism sucks... I know there's profiling and stuff against the minorities and that's really stupid, but most of the racism I see regularly is against white people.
For instance, we had to make up dances in gym class and there were maybe 4 black kids and 6 white kids... one of the white girls had taken dance for years and another was pretty good at it, but when they even tried to make suggestions, the black girls said "you know you can't dance, girl. you're white." and completely ignored them.

Haha! Id be like omg your not color blind but you must have bad taste because last time I looked you looked like ronald mc donald. I love saying that when people wear too much make up! But any way she's just jealous because she went to the tatoo parlor and they couldn't change her skin color so she's stuck looking like she's supposed to. HHAHA! People are really racist!
