that's not a good reason to buy something. I buy something because it works well, not because it looks good.

But they do function.

The PSP is easily broken.

That's like buying a car that will probably break 100 miles down the road.

Nintendo DS just because Sony does not have experience in handheld gaming technology. But then again, I don't know much about either.

That is a very good point!

Unfortunately, only few people actually know how Sony got into the console market. The first Playstation was supposed to be an addon for the SNES, just like the 32x and SegaCD was an addon to the Genesis. Problems arose, and Nintendo chose the Philipps CD-i rather than Sony's design. But, Sony had received valuable knowledge of the console market now, and decided to release a console of their own.

Sony was able to get a foothold in the market because Nintendo helped them.

Now, Sony is trying to get into the handheld market. But now they can't use another company to get in, they have to do it on their own. It'll be much tougher for them, which is evident by the sales of the DS vs sales of PSP in Japan. The PSP is being beaten.

Amazon UK lists the PSP's price as £180. Based on current conversion rates, that's about $336.47!

Actually, its more like 235$. But still, that doesnt mean anything. In Japan its retailing for about 186$. Europe isnt exactly a huge gaming market, nowhere near as much as the US and Japan, so the higher prices kind of make sense, to deal with the lack of buyers.

Like... ?

There is a media player for the GBA, so the DS can view movies and play music. Not to mention a tv tuner as well.

I wonder what the prices on those would be compared to having to have a memory card for music and video files?

The ComplactFlash adapter for the GBA costs $30. CompactFlash cards sold seperately, but they are cheaper (and better) than Sony's Memory Stick.

Yes but whats the movie/music/etc list for the adapter? The PSP is supposed to have big hit titles like SpiderMan2 and the upcoming Final Fantasy VII movie.

What will the battery time be?
4-5 hours for Video watching through UMD.
4-6 hours average for gameplay through UMD.

6 hours with headphones and 50% volume, no WIFI and lowest screen brightness (80 cd/m2).

I heard that, if you buy the movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children for PSP, while you are watching it, the battery life will cut off the movie just as soon as it gets low. That's what I read at the gamefaqs.com FFVII:AC boards last year. I don't know how long the movie will be (I heard it's at least less than 2 hours), so that might not be true.

I really haven't found any games I like so far in the PSP, and I can wait for FFVII:AC to come out in DVD anyway. So my choice goes to the DS. After all, I totally miss playing Super Mario 64 for the N64, so my only chances of being able to play the DS version on the DS. I think the only game on the PSP that caught my attention is that Metal Gear Solid game, but it's exactly like the first one, just like Twin Snakes. So I prefer DS.
