Use a different type of picture tone.. clearer and more uh.. true skin color looking. In that picture her skin is pink and vectoring pink people is a no-no in my opinion. You can try making the picturing greyscale and vectoring that.

I don't think you used the pen tool.. Did you? Because I could do the exact same thing you did.
I could be wrong, but it looks like you just made a new layer, then brushed in your face, Bevel-Embossed that layer. Then made a new layer, drew in the eyes. Then made yet another new layer, then brushed in the hair. If you need proof, I could make one. Yea...  But nice try though. :] |

anyways, like everyone said, try a tutorial~ =) spend A LOT more time on it.. then you'll get the hang of it.. it takes practice~ =)

Okay, lets see, even tho I've only made ONE vector, I have some advice to help. Think about that nose. Noses dont just have lines around them. What you did around the face was a good start, you should do the same around the nose, so it isnt flat. The nose should grasually come away from the face, like they do in real life!! U used the paintbrush tool or may the pencil, but u need to be using the pen tool, because its obvious, by how soft and undefined the edges are that u didnt use the pen tool. Also, the hair! Lighter on top darker underneath because of the amount of light that is exposed. No offense to ur mom, but maybe you should try a high quality pic of a celebrity first. Professionals have equalised and air brushed tho pics to give them even shadows and highlights, and that can help you determine how the faces shadows all and what not. Please, keep trying!! :D
