iite.. as lots of good debaters say, lets make this a debate, and if you have an opinion, support it with good facts.

Should white-out be banned from school or not?

White-out is used for: to white-out any mistakes you made in pen instead of scratching out with pen (english classes only accept writing in pen in our school).

Reason why our shcool banned white-out: because their afraid kids might get high from white-out by smelling white-out because white-out has a terrible smell that can make u feel high.

so what you think?

well maybe if the stupid kids wouldn't give the deans reasons to ban things such as white out...

friggin, as soon as research shows that a well hydrated student works more effectively, they ban all drinks at our school. because some stupid f**ks are dumb enough to bring alcohol.

if we're tired of being treated like children, we need to grow the f**k up.

Our school banned white out because people would graffiti with it (the ink kind) so yeah..I think for your reason, schools shouldn't band white out but the reason why my school banned white out is kind of like..yeah..

It's not banned at our school, but some teachers won't let you use it in class. I am 50-50 on this one. I mean, you can always use an eraseable pen if you really think you're gonna make a huge mistake on a paper. You can also just cross it out. Whoa. There's a new idea. Just use pencil if you're that consered.

Banning white-out would be completely stupid. Most English classes require that you use pen and never pencil. What if you made a mistake at the bottom of the back side of a page and didn't want it to look sloppy by crossing it out? If you didn't have access to white-out you would have to redo the entire page... A huge waste of time that could be spent on editing and revising the paper to make it sound and flow better.

In a way I understand why they would want to ban it because of the huffing issue but the kids that are going to do that would find other ways of getting it anyway and most of them are smart enough to not do it at school.

not only should we band white-out, we should also ban pencils, because you can poke peoples eyes out, and you could do the same with pens. and you can hit someone over the head with a ruler, and that might hurt, so lets ban them too. oh oh! and sharpies. we could definitely get high off them too. we also shouldnt be allowed to use glue on projects, like rubber cement because we could get high from any of that. not to mention erasers, which we could easily swallow and choke on. hell, i dont want to get a paper cut, so lets not use paper anymore either. not to mention those hazardous dry erase markers. desks could collapse on use too. in fact, the whole f**king school could fall on us if there were a tornado or something, so lets not go anymore. rolleyes.gif

no, i don't think they should ban white out. The school that i go to (middle school) allows white-out but maybe some other middle schools don't. Anyway, it's ridiculous to use "getting high" as an excuse to ban white out. If they are banning white out, what about sharpie markers? and those paints in art class? Those smells even worst and it could get people "higher". If the school want to prevent students from doing something like that, they should have a assembly for the grade or something giving them the right information about what to and to not do. White out is practical, a lot of other things are not.

if there is a problem with it, that is dangererous to the kid's health or harmful to the school itself or the environment, than it should be banned. why would you want to have something harmful around?

have you ever heard of WHITE OUT TAPE?

they don't ban that. it's a perfectly viable way to white out. and you can't get high off it.

For those of you who say use a pencil, the ablility to erase is over-rated.

i use only pen- it's better because you can see it better and it doesn't smudge.

math teachers hate me. I do my work in pen...

of course they force me to use pencil.

but really; you can cross out, you can re-write.

i am currently calculating the angle between vectors with a pen.

well it's not banned at my shcool...we even ask the teachers to let us use theirs and they let us. so no, i dont think it should be banned. if they catch someone trying to get high off of it, i think the person should face some kind of conciquence though.

ic.. i 4got to mention sharpie.. but they banned those 2..

white-out tape, their allowed in our school.

My opinion about it is that we shouldn't ban it in our school, but i find it dumb that it's banned cuz their afraid kids will get high from it...

The reason i think it's dumb to assume kids would wanna smell it: wow... none of my friends or classmates even do that when they are using white-out.. it basically depends on what school.. kids/teens do a lot of crazy stuff these days.. so you really dont know if they're smelling it or not.

I agree with starfaerie06, that happens to me a lot. i cant even bring white-out to school and i have to scratch it out and make it look hecka messy.

hmmm. did they grafitti with it yet before it was banned?
well.. yea u could grafitti with the white-out. i saw a bunch of desks full of em one time.

lol.. ending up banning all the school supplies.

it smells terrible.. but some ppl can handle the smell and get high out of it.

We need white-out. English classes only allow u to use pen and i have to cross out a lot.. dang, it'll make my paper messy. but yeah... white out makes papers neater without crossing out with pen.

Geez. There are similar and probably better stuff called correction tape / white-out tape. It doesn't need any time for drying and doesn't give out any smell.

I guess you can't really ban correction liquid, because it's just some stationery; but I think people should STOP sniffing in because it damages your brain cells and can be fatal.

well, actually, whenever we write essays in class for tests or whatnot, were typically not allowed to use it, so i dont carry it anymore just because its a bit obsolete, but the fact that theyre banning it is ridiculous, as they could ban anything, as stated in my previous post

sharpies on the other hand are not so obsolete. we use those daily. crayola arent permanent. you need permenent markers.

seriously?

I like the smell of sharpie kinda but I don't huff it. I've never tried to get high off of it but I know people who have... One time in 8th grade I was using sharpie to color my book cover and I didn't get high but my pupils got dialated... my friends laughed at me.

Seeing as virtually none of the kids at my school use white-out, I doubt that they get high off of it. I say no.

And besides, Sharpies do the job quite nicely.

I find the fact that white-out is being banned just plain stupid. I don't think anyone would get high out of white-out. Don't you need it when you make a mistake? I also find it stupid that they ban white-out because of graffiti. You can also graffiti with markers and some other stuff. My school banned white-out because of graffiti. Okay, if a school is gonna ban white-out because they believe is "hazardous," they might as well ban these things too:

Pencils and pens — you can poke somebody in the eye like that or stab someone.
Scizzors — you can stab someone, cut someone, or poke someone in the eye.
Markers — you can also get high out of those, no?
Paper — you can cut yourself.
Chalk — some people can be allergic to chalk.
Eraser — you can choke on it.
Desks — there are some people that are allergic to that too.
Paint — you can also get high out of that.

Let's just face it, almost everything is harmful in some form. So I don't think white out should be banned.

you make a good point that almost everything is harmful.. some of that stuff u just pointed out our school doesnt even use, like chalk.

We use whiteboards in our school, and chalk was banned b/c ppl were allergic to it.

i completly agree!!! they cant ban white out on the basis that its harmful because everything is harmful and you cant excape it!!! and they cant ban it on graffiti (sp?) either because you can graffiti with almost anything so again they would have to ban alot of things just to stop people from graffiting or hurting themselves and also people can get high off of almost anything if you really wanted to or really tried, you could so they cant ban it for that reason either! personally i think the whole public school system is f**ked up!
