I have been a member for a little while now and I have noticed in the past month or 2 that know one is here anymore? Usually when I have a question it is answered within a timely matter but now I see people just looking at posts and not answering. I wonder if it has anything to do with members who learned what they needed to know and moved onto bigger things?

The issue is websites we have templates for are all dying, while twitter, facebook, etc. are all flourishing.

So nobody is registering, which means all the people who used to be support center gurus are leaving, which means all the people who liked the support center gurus are leaving, which means all the people who liked the people who liked the support center gurus are leaving, which leaves only those of us who hate everyone.

I'm gonna' add this to my notepad thingy so I can just re-post it when other topics like this come up.

And while all of the above is true, I can't help but hope that this is just a low[er] point, and that things will spring back up.

I have noticed some of the older memebrs popping up here and there, but a come back isn't going to happen unless we start offering more than just myspace ( twitter and tumblr shiz )since that's what brings people here in the first place.

Being sarcastic creepy assholes to every new member probably doesn't help either, though... My baad.

HAHAH I feel like your type of posting is a good niche that is RLY necessary, especially when members are saying that staff has a stick up their ass (read: when I was a mod). That niche has...grown. xD But yeah, I'd be HELLLLLLA afraid if I were a newbie. Hell, I'm a little intimidated now w/ all of the inside jokes. zipped.gif

^still makes no sense unless you assume that people in cb's past were less busy. the problem isn't more are busy, the problem is there is less of us. if 100 out of 500 people are busy it's not a big deal. if 85 out of 100 are busy, it's a big deal.

anyway

i think we all still care to a degree and that's why we're here. i duno about you guys but i'm holding onto the thought that maybe jusun will get on, fix some things, and it can go back to being active. it's not gonna happen probably, i get that. it's probably too far gone, we've lost too much activity. we're catering to an audience that hasn't been there for a while now. most people don't care about myspace, and if they do, they can customize myspace 2.0 as well as most of the layouts that get submitted here anymore. we've lost our niche. i don't see how we're gonna find one. it's hard to imagine how jusun,or staff with more power, could even fix the place if he wanted to. it would take a completely new direction. we'd have to drop our primary focus on myspace, and move to something new.

people say tumblr, but nobody is gonna come here for tumblr unless we are producing amazing stuff that is cb exclusive and we keep our designers loyal to us only. people aren't gonna submit their tumblr layouts to us like they did for myspace, because tumblr allows you to submit your layouts straight to them. so why would a designer wanna waste their time going through us and not straight to the main audience? they'd be hurting themselves unless we could give them a good reason why we are better. if cb was still the big community it once was, we would at least have some weight and be able to say "hey but look at how many people are visiting our site to find layouts, come here and those people will come for your layouts too."

unfortunately, we can't say that anymore. it used to be a given and take with our designers. give us your layouts and we'll put you in front of a big layout audience and give you exposure/views. so we have no reason why designers should help us, because we can't/don't help them in return.

And to be totally honest, most of the layouts here suck pretty bad. You still have a few good designers, like Fainaru, but even he hasn't been submitting much lately, and what he has submitted has been lacking compared to his older work.

Like compare his Starship layout from back in August to his Concurrence layout from like 2006. The same thing is happening with all the other designers here.

@jc & cj, i agree.

additionally, no offense to current cb designers, but we have to admit that during the days of xanga and myspace, cb layouts have gotten away with being poorly coded. 1. they rarely adhered to w3c standards, 2. a LOT of the layouts were ripped off from other artists, and 3. the ones that weren't were ugly anyway (with the exception of the work of probably a handful of designers).

the web design world has matured since then, even just slightly, and these cb tricks are not gonna do it for them anymore. people used to question the lack of wordpress layouts, but it really isn't that surprising. people who design for any CMS would prefer their public layouts be associated with professional quality work. this includes tumblr as well.

I don't see the point of saying every reason why the good designers left.

Are you talking about when people first started submitting stuff? Of course the layouts were ugly, half of the people back then didn't have the knowledge or the creativity that we could easily find today. It's not like they Adobe Photoshop CS4 or Dreamweaver CS4 back then. ( They only got the old ones to work with. ;-; ) I do agree with the stealing part though.

the "days of myspace" were less than a year ago, and i'm including a lot of that crap submitted in my assertion.

but the gist of the problem is really what jc said. there's just less people, regardless of how many designers are left.
