I'm thinking about getting one this weekend (two actually, because it'd be a pair) and I need some insight. Would you or do you have a tattoo? If so where and why'd you get it? Did it hurt like hell?

I don't think i'd ever get a tattoo. I don't like the fact that its permanent &you can't get it off unless removed w/lasers or w.e.
I would consider it though. If something significant happens or something, i might be willing to get a tattoo. But for right now, im pretty sure i won't ever get a tattoo. |

yes, I have two. Both mean a lot to me and I got my first one Jan '07 and my second one March '08 and I don't regret them at all. They have special meanings so yeah. One on my lower back to the right, and one on my left hip. Yeah it hurts, but its not unbearable pain. I jus had to grit my teeth or squeeze my friends hand a few times, but it goes my fast enough.
G'luck and show pics if you do! ![]() |

I got one in September of 2008. It's the letters APLV which are the first initials of my immediate family, and it runs down my left side (ribs). I wouldn't say that it hurt terribly, it just stung here and there, kind of like a scrape or a burning feeling.
Before getting it done, my tattoo artist asked me if I heard anything about getting tattoos on the ribs before, I hadn't, and he just laughed and said he would tell me after. After he said that it's one of the most painful places to get a tattoo and if you can stand that then you're pretty much set for any others. So, I would definitely get another in the future. What were you thinking of getting done? And where? |

I have a tattoo that basically stamps my current 4 year commitment to the Marine Corps. Its relatively subtle unless you take a good look at it.
I want sleeves so badly, though. Thanks to the rules, I have to wait until I get out. |

What were you thinking of getting done? And where? Wings on my ankles, right above the ankle bone. But I saw something about walking a lot after getting one done there and irritation and I'm going to be getting it in NYC where I do nothing but walk, so now I'm not so sure.

That sounds really cool... I've heard that from constantly being on our feet, those kinds of tattoos can fade or distort easily. I can't really tell you how to take care of it in the healing process because all tattoo artists will tell you different things. But, if you listen to their directions and take good care of it during the healing process, don't scratch or pick at scabs, and apply a high SPF sunblock when it's exposed (one of the main causes for tattoo fading is from the sun) you should be golden. |

You may want to rethink getting a tattoo on your ankle is you plan to be walking around a lot. I was planning to get a tattoo in that area for my bday and my tattoo artist told me to allow a couple of days to stay off my feet because that area tends to get really swollen, especially when you walk around. I was going to get it on my bday but since I'm going to be partying that night I'm getting my tattoo is either a few days before or a few days after. |

But I saw something about walking a lot after getting one done there and irritation and I'm going to be getting it in NYC where I do nothing but walk, so now I'm not so sure. Two of my best friends got tattoos on their feet. You need to make sure you go to a good place. If you get it done in NYC, I'd recommend East Side Ink - they're expensive but they're really good (http://www.eastsideinktattoo.com/). My friend who got her foot tat there didn't have any problems with it and it hasn't faded at all whereas my other friend who got a foot tat somewhere else had to go to ESI to get it touched up. Tbh, the tattoos I got done at East Side hurt like a bitch, but they're also really, really well done, unlike my first tat which didn't hurt at all and is now looking like shit. If you end up going there, try asking for Sweetie :D I think he's kinda cute for an older, middle-aged man ;) |

Thanks for the advice, Kiera.I ended up not getting it done that weekend, but maybe next month. We'll see. |
