i'm sure there is a topic like this somewhere but i can't find one that isn't really old.

what are you majoring in?
a lot of people talk about school around here, but never about what they are even there for. i don't think i know what most people here are wanting to go into as a career.

yeah i know this should be in the school forum, but eh. i duno. mods can move this if they are really itching to do something.

I have majored in
Culinary and pastry arts
and then business management (i wanted to open a restaurant at one point)

Then I did Medical assisting/nursing and almost considered to become a EMT.

currently i am on a hiatus from everything but I have been contemplating a return to culinary arts since in the end, its the only thing I'm extremely good at and that truly soothes my soul.

Commerce, but my option is undecided. I'm trying to decide between Finance, Accounting and MIS. In the end though it'll probably be Accounting.

Business, possibly a joint major with (or minor in) Psychology. My concentration is undecided, but I am considering Marketing.

LOL yeah accounting sounds terrible to people who don't do it. But it's actually not bad because it's more about managing and problem solving rather than trivial number-crunching, especially in the higher levels. There's definitely a stereotype associated with accounting, but my accounting prof was a Chartered Accountant before he taught and he's probably the most hilarious and sarcastic prof I've ever had!

Also I don't want to work in a lab or be a doctor and have never ever wanted to be an Arts major, so really Commerce was the only thing left. And out of the options in Commerce, accounting really fits my personality the best.

I've had this conversation running in my head for the past 2-3 years so I'm sure I made the right decision for myself...hopefully. _unsure.gif

yeah my girlfriend's dad is an accountant and he's always telling me how it's like solving puzzles to him. not to me though. i took an accounting class in high school and that was all it took to know i wasn't cut out for it lol. it's not just accounting that puzzles me though, there are lots of jobs and i always wonder how people get interested in them.

^ LOl no offense to Arts majors, it's just really, really not for me.

Yeah high school accounting is extremely mechanical, but there are a lot more problems in the real-world. But I can understand if you're not one of those people either. I just reeeeeally love organization, order, logic and problem solving.

Well actually, I would consider visual art because I think it's really cool. For a while I considered at least trying out graphic design professionally on the side just as a thing I could do (and I love it so much). I would even consider Psychology because it's a heavily science-based Arts course. I'm mostly talking about anthropology, history, philosophy, etc. I just could never do that.

i love organization too. i just couldn't handle the constant math. for some unknown reason between high school and college i developed a dislike of math. i really don't know why. i was never bad at it and even took upper level math classes just to be taking them. maybe because i find working math problems to be really stressful for some reason. i know other people though who find those kinda problems to be relaxing.

as long as you're not dissing art we're good

i know what you mean. i agree and don't agree. majoring in art just exposes you to so much more art besides just the media you're interested in. makes you more rounded imo whether it's taking other studio classes or learning the art history. but like you said, no one needs to go to art school to be an artist. i think it just depends on the person.

I started off as an Econ Major, then I was Accounting, then I considered switching to computer science but decided I would be retarded if I did that, and now I'm a Marketing major :] Still has economic relations and gets to deal with people more so than, say, an economist :]

HAH you just described me right there. I LOVE math with a passion (which is why I don't want to choose that as my career...it'll just become my hobby I'm sure). Whenever I finish a hard problem flawlessly I become really really happy.

Although accounting really doesn't involve very much complicated math at all, which saddens me a bit because I can't really derivate anything anymore.

i kind of would do it just for the networking and being around other artists and sharing thoughts and ideas
