I remember on BR they used to have their layouts set up where you would make a topic with a screenshot of the layout, the live preview link and then use this thing
CODE
dfsfsdf
to post the code.

So one could just make a new forum category for the time being? shrug.gif

yeah i mean we can do what we did with createblog layouts previous to getting jusun to do something about it. it's just annoying that it's such a big ordeal for the only person with access to come do something on his own site.

QUOTE(Herizon Action @ Jun 19 2009, 05:19 PM) *
Maybe we could contact Jusun - but first brainstorm some ideas, put it in feedback or somewhere he'd be likely to read it, then talk it through.

yeah i duno. i doubt that. it takes an act of god to get him on here, you know, like someone texting him saying the forum is gone. we've tried to contact him numerous times without any reply over things. he shows up when he wants to show up. if it's not a major event causing the site to not work, it's unlikely. i wish he'd come read feedback every now and then, that'd be nice.

anyway ideas are welcome. i'm pretty sure we still have a running list of stuff he needs to do.

I joined July 2008, i feel like a new kid. I think having more 2.0 layouts would be great. Everyone seems to complain they can never find what they want.

That's a pretty sound idea!
But how do we appeal to tumblr users?
What's our approach?

Our approach would be using the fact that we are the largest blogging/design resource site on the internets.
Most of everyone out there on the web who lacks design knowledge has used something off of us, whether its a layout, script, avatar or tutorial with great success.

Seeing as there are few sites that offer actual layouts for tumblr aside from the ones that tumblr itself already offers we can use the trust we have gained with the online world on being one of the best sites for other types of design shit and tutorials and add some on here.

its kind of like using the principal of if you want the best croissants you need to go france.

the thing is, we need people to submit actual layouts.

actually, scratch what i've said.

we've already done this haven't we?
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...t&p=3180156

it's already been discussed and set up for people to post tumblr layouts until any kind of official category was put in. i knew this sounded familiar lol.

we need to make cb where it's at for tumblr first before we spread the word i'd think. we don't have anything to show at the moment _unsure.gif

Ok, first off, I don't know your name and I hate referring to people by username.

So, hello, I'm Rebecca.

And yes. I have chatted informally to a few people (usually by PM) about the less than ideal status of cB and the demographic, or lack of one. There's a lot going into that. Much of the reasoning is the idea that people have "moved on." I totally understand that, but it's a forum and it doesn't need to be an all (super active) or nothing type of deal. I treasure the periodic "come backs" because it brings in fresh conversation and usually something cool comes out of it. I'm wordy (heh) and I love the banter.

Tumblr is fantastic (and yes, the forum was set up some time ago, but sadly the enthusiasm reached its peak in Feedback) but I think that reaching out to a more broad "audience" is really the way to go. I'm biased, certainly, because of my age. At 33, I'm older than anyone that posts on a regular basis - something that I'm not at all ashamed of. I'm grateful for many of the online "cB" friendships I've made over the past few years and wouldn't trade it in at all for a group closer to my age. However, I do wish that there was a broader age group, with some additional mature players. I've suggested this place before, only to have friends my age log on and ask why the hell would I interact with such mean people (LOL, you know who you are). It's a double edged sword. You want people to have fun but at the same time, that same fun alienates people sometimes.

Man, I don't even remember my point, if I had a point. Again, I'm miserably verbose. Welcome back and thank you for posting thoughtfully. It is, indeed, a breath of fresh air.

Hi Rebecca (Zatanna, right?)
It would be nice to get a broader demographic, but as you mentioned, many find it difficult to interact here because certain users are a bit hostile.
I was thinking/hoping that createblog could evolve beyond layout design. I've checked tumblr's hits compared to the bigger networking sites/blogs, and to say the least it's lacking.
What we need is something revolutionary - something to mature the site as a whole. Not just a new look, but a new ideology
We need something that can appeal to everyone.
The question is, what?
And it doesn't have to just be one thing. Tumblr is just a stepping stone.
As I was reading the createblog city thread, I stumbled upon an idea of more fully utilizing already existing threads - such as creating subforums for popular television shows, or shows that interest createbloggers (like Buffy, or Twilight, or David Lynch).
This has to be carefully planned, well articulated, and appealing.
LOL, now I'm just rambling. But do you get what I mean?
In short, Createblog needs to grow up

As awesome as that sounds.
The risk you run with that is alienating potential users who are younger and less mature.

If we raise the bar then it will become too easy for one to attack someone else because they fail to be at the same level as the rest of the forums (actually thats kind of where we are at right now)

lol rebecca, i was gonna make a comment earlier towards you that this is ironic since we basically just talked about it this morning.

cb's got a lot of problems. seems like we've been over it a million times. whether it be with jusun's absence limiting stuff or people's overall attitude problem here. juna said earlier that he doesn't post with effort, he just posts for fun. i mean the whole idea that putting any effort into constructing a real post isn't fun is kinda a problem in itself you know. NO OFFENSE BROYE. just goes back to the members who can really contribute don't feel like it.

i duno, i just feel like cb would need an attitude change as much as anything.

Yet it's ok to alienate potential users who are older and more mature? There should be a balance. Of course, should anyone find that magical balance, you should copyright it because I'm not sure anyone has been able to find that perfect blend of all age welcoming.

Blogging, in general is an immensely popular device for voicing opinions, sharing news, etc. I've seen an evolution of blog type layouts. It used to be this super flashy, ultra girly, swirly thing with a major hard on for scriptina type fonts. I am so glad to see more clean, polished and more content driven blogs out there. Unfortunately, that's not what is typically offered here.

What I'd love to see is sort of this online festival of different types of layouts - from the museum like quality of Tumblrs, to the news style wordpress, to yes, even good ol' cheesy MySpace pages. Something for everyone. It may seem like this exists, but if you look through the layouts here, there is a definitive focus on regurgitated pop. That's cool. I read Twilight. I'm down. There's just so much MORE.

@JC, I know, right! This topic is definitely serendipitous.

this reminds me of my attitude towards the design competition i'm doing if you remember me explaining it in DS HQ. how i wanted to get away from icons and myspace stuff and go towards more actual design. the whole "so much more" thing i was trying to stress, similar feelings.

Oh I know. I think, in part because you were so driven, it's one of the best graphic based contests I've seen here, as far as content goes.

That's exactly what I'm trying to convey. Blogging aesthetic evolution.

As rebecca said, we need a balance. Diana, I think in order to raise the bar, the mentality of the users must change first - so if there were a time that the general concensus begins to alienate a younger age group (but I'm thinking really young), then that's what's to come. Besides, I'm not looking for the quantity of users, rather the quality of their ideas and what they can bring to this site to make it entertaining again, and not a shootoff of 4chan (seriously guys, i'm tired of the memes).

Memes, in moderation and when done in a creative way are totally fine. It's the reused ones (that Captain Picard one, for example) that fall way of the Rick Roll.

And dammit, I can't post straight with Beenly's signature above the fast reply.
