Ricky and Rachael are taking the time to try and help you focus on what you need to improve, not only on this one design but on your skills as a designer overall. Createblog has a lot of very talented designers, and I think it's a shame if you don't want to take their advice. Seriously, did you make this topic because you wanted people to make replies like "that's nice" and "it looks ok" without putting thought into it?

If someone makes a reply that you don't understand, ask them to elaborate, don't insult them. People here are more than willing to help you out, but if you act like a brat they aren't going to. You need to listen to what they say because it will make you a better designer. If you don't give a shit, why should they?

Typography is part of graphic design.
Basically working with text is typography.
Them saying you need to learn typography means that you should work on what you can do with text, especially because your text usually doesn't fit with your image.

The golden ratio, the rule of thirds, etc. has a lot to do with it
Because if you follow those rules, it'll look aesthetically pleasing - it's been proven by science (I think)
For instance, the Mona Lisa, one of the most 'beautiful' paintings uses the golden ratio, which is why it's so aesthetically pleasing. Another is 'The Last Supper' - another famous piece of artwork.
The golden ratio wikipedia page talked about that, if you bothered to read it.



And it's not stupid shit by the way.
Besides, a lot of people think that order in a piece of art

Maths can help with that.




Also, please TRY to work on matching colours. I don't think you've gotten that much better at it.

Typography is a general understanding of text and letter spacing, line-heights, and so forth that help a design seem complete - you have to pay as much attention to the style and placement of your text as much as your design.

For example - I just recently designed this layout: [here]. See how I styled the content text to match with the modern flair of the design? Also, I actually incorporated typographical styles into the design itself.

In short, typography (when used in web design) is knowing what font looks good and knowing the best possible way to present it in the design and in the content.

About the rule of thirds, the main point of the rule is visual balance. You want to make sure that you don't have all of the visual weight on one side without something balancing out the design in another area. It also doesn't have to be limited to the Rule of "Thirds" - you can break your layout down into 2, 4, and 5 pieces - whatever is easier for you to visualize the balance of the entire composition. [This] really isn't the best example because it isn't balanced as good as it should be. But, do you see how I tried to balance out the text on the poster with the header text of the content? Also, by adding the inset box (with the gold top border) and music player, I tried to balance the visual weight of the graphic.

Try not to get discouraged - you're going to have more criticism than compliments for a while. You should have seen some of the things that I tried to submit at first... I got rejected one after another My designs back then were pretty ridiculous.

He's throwing some big words at you here but he's right. If you're really interested in learning about all this and want to become a better designer, you need to do some learning on your own. It won't be easy but it will pay off for sure.
