second round: t-shirt design

second round is t-shirt design, and your theme is music.
you can make a band t-shirt for your favorite band or artist. you can do whatever you want really with whatever kind of music you want. you don't necessarily have to narrow it down to one specific artist or group if you don't want. there's not really a lot of restrictions on this.

you can google t-shirt templates and get a template to put it on. you need to place the design on a t-shirt template when you submit so that we can see how it will be placed. take placement into consideration. if your design goes on the front and back, then show us both front and back views.

there's not a specific image size that this needs to be, but make sure it's big enough that we can see the design well in detail. send me a jpg or png image. once again, a short explanation is a plus. it's nice to hear from you what you were trying to do and why rather than leaving it up to us to just guess and hope we get it right.

this round ends at midnight saturday, may 30th.

if you have questions then feel free to ask

Can it be inspired by a song, but not explicitly showing music in the design itself?

That would be awesome and it would give more design opportunities. I mean, a lot of band shirts look the same - it'd be hard to come up with something really original ._.

^if they all look the same then it seems like it would be pretty easy to come up with something original seasonal0.gif either way you're not limited to a band t-shirt. although there's a lot of band t-shirts that are in bad need of redesign though. so many sucky ones.

sure, but you need to tell us which song when you submit and explain how it's inspired by that song. that goes for everyone pretty much though, you guys needa tell us how your design is related the song/artist/genre/ect that inspired it.

^yeah that's what i'd say. i mean relate what you can, but it doesn't have to be extremely literal for every element of the design. if it has their name on it like that then i don't think you need much explanation. i mean that's why i didn't really think "band t-shirts" would limit anyone creatively because basically ANYTHING can be a band t-shirt.

it doesn't have to be for a band though, it's just music themed. it could be inspired from a song, a genre of music, whatever.

you should beware that where you're going to print has a lot to do with what you can do design wise. some places have better, more detailed printing capabilities than others. also if you're actually wanting to print something you should keep in mind that a lot of place charge per color. uhhh as far as sizing, i don't know exactly. i would get out one of your shirts and measure how big it is in inches, convert that to pixels and make it at least that big for starters. maybe someone else can give more advice on that.

Can anyone enter into the second round? Or is this limited to the first round of competitors? I have some time on my hands now that it's the summer...

^Because it's always best to use things made by yourself? I mean, creditting and copyrights aren't a big deal in a competition like this, but it's a good thing to follow in general.

does it have to promote the artist or song? as in does the tshirt have to show the bands name prominently or something like that?

nah i don't think so. i've seen a lot of band/artist shirts that say the bands name somewhere small or on the back or something and not necessarily straight up in the main design

Ok one last question. Can it be inspired by two songs from two separate artists? And the design is combination of the two, with no promotion of the bands at all.

is it something you can clearly explain how it's related to the songs?

this is tricky. i wanna say yes if you can relate it to the theme which is music. if you're just looking for a way to get around having to do a music them by making a design and then saying it's "inspired" by music then i duno. i mean i couldn't really answer that without seeing the design probably, or at least trying to have some idea what you have in mind.

if i have to get a definite answer, then that's yes. the theme is music and you can be as creative as you want with that. BUT, i'm not going to promise that the judges won't be like "uhhh what does this have to do with the theme". if you're design is inspired by the lyrics in songs and you can articulate that so that people understand then that's good. if you're making some abstract random design and saying that the song inspired this and this is how you feel from the song...i'm not promising anything. i can't promise that it won't hurt someones score if the judges can't see how it's related to music at least a little bit.

sorry if this doesn't really answer it. like i said it's hard to answer without knowing what you're talking about exactly.
