I'm not planning on reenlisting in the Marine Corps. And, if I do, I'm going to go the Weekend Warrior route. In a nutshell, I'm not wild about the stronghold that military service has on your life (you were right). The last time I brought up a wild idea, I ended up going to boot camp. This time, I think I may just end up at a Police Academy.

Go figure.

Hol' up. Like many young seasonal0.gif s running the streets of Wilmington, Delaware's Westside or the streets of South Philly, I grew up despising the cops. Even now, many cops annoy the hell out of me. That doesn't mean I don't feel a strong sense of obligation to keeping communities in order. _unsure.gif

Hell, just four years ago, I was an anti-establishment pothead. Now, look at what I'm doing.

^never that. It's also one of the reasons I want to become a police, just so I can help put a stop to that. I might not be able to change the world, but I can change the world that I'm a part of.

I know a few people who became cops when they got out of the Marine Corp. My cousin married Marine who went on to become an officer in New York; He has a lot of downtime and gets paid quite well.

I'm taking a criminal justice ethics class right now because it counts towards my major and is the easiest A ever (that is, assuming I get the paper I should be writing right now written by tomorrow). It's all police anecdotes, because the teacher's an ex-cop and GBI agent. The class is pretty much worthless to me because I have no interest in becoming a cop or working in any sort of related job. If nothing else, I've realized I'm am not remotely the kind of the person to do that sort of work. I am such a relativist when it comes to what I consider right or wrong, or what laws I consider to be worth obeying. But I guess it has given me a bit of a better understanding of the police's perspective on things. And after all, you are in the military, so if this is what you want to do, cool.

I did want to be a cop once, when I was younger, but I don't think I'd want to do that anymore. Good luck to you.

I don't know you that well, but from what I do know of you, you have a strong sense of fairness, honesty and equality. You also have respect for different types of people, regardless of race, religion, age, etc. I think that is fundamental in a police officer.

Should you choose to pursue this path, I think that it is one that you would be absolutely fantastic at.

Wow, a cop. That's interesting. Do you think you're actually going to like it and what would you if you were in some kind of dangerous situation? I hope all goes good for you, Brandon. thumbsup.gif

I want to be a cop because I do feel a strong sense of obligation to help people. I don't want to coddle anyone, I don't want to kiss anyone's ass, but I want be a force of justice that people can look to.

Dangerous situations? I'm not too worried about it.

Actually, I'm from Delaware. I don't plan on ever living in Texas again. That decision was made by my parents 8 years ago, not by me.

DC; nah, too busy. I'd prefer to have a decent schedule and work in an area that I really know, so I'm leaning toward Philly, or Wilmington, DE.
